My pump seems to be working well (plenty of flow into chiller when I disconnect the "in" tube to check).... but I am regularly having trouble getting the water from the chiller back into the ice barrel. I have "purged the line of air", sort of checked all, etc.....is there a setting on the chiller that could be causing this that I am missing? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Hi I just received my ice barrel three hundred, I bought a intex filter via Amazon. I’m a little confused with setting it up. I can be reached and I’m in south Florida. 😊
Thank you for putting this together, great setup. I have been running for the last two months without issues but recently the filter just stops pumping water after a while which I assume is due to air build up. I primed it by filling the tubes with water and that seems to work for about a day and then the same happens again. Am I doing something wrong and is there a good solution for this? Thank you
I appreciate you creating this video as it clarifies my questions before investing in a "Cold Plunge". Thank you for creating such informative videos. Your content is truly helpful, and I hope you will continue to produce more of it in the future.
David, I got the 800 pump and I'm using 3/4" tubing and everything. I got 2x 3/4" x 3/4" fittings to link the strainer and the pump together, but my 3/4" fitting won't fit in to the 800. It looks like I need 3/4" to 5/8"
Oh no! Yea the 800 might be a smaller hole. I use the 1100 and it comes with the right pieces. So sorry my friend. But you should be able to get that cheap on Amazon
so you found that you didn't need any Teflon tape or o-rings on any of the fittings that you screw in that are from leaking or slightly dripping? also all fittings that were PVC like this for just hand tighten you didn't need tools to stop them from leaking etc.. I imagine over-tightening is worth cuz you could crack the plastic? thanks so much for your help and and videos
Thanks for the support and question. I didn’t use any tape, but it could help if needed. I also hand tighten almost everything, but I used a wrench a few times but not to over tighten, just to make it easier.
Think a 1/2 HP paired with the 300 can hang for the stupid hot summers in Phoenix? Or is it best to go with more horses? It’ll be under the patio, but outside will still be a brisk 110°.
Thanks for the video. I ordered my Ice Barrel 300 back in August but haven't received mine yet. In fact, I've tried contacting Ice Barrel multiple times through multiple channels to get an ETA and they won't answer me.
Oh man i am sorry about that! I know when i was at the HQ they were slammed with emails about shipping and they are a small team (currently building and growing). They were like "man i want to respond to each and every email about the shipping, but that would take hours and in that time i could also just process the shipping... dont want to make people mad but im going to just ship them their barrels." not word for word but i agreed. Its coming soon and i hope it comes sooner my friend.
So that pump is a submersible pump, but you can use it out of the water, and it won't burn up? Also, does the 3/4 adapter come with the pump once you remove that filter cover on the pump? You went over that part kind of fast. Thanks brother :)
If there is any advice I can give to anyone wanting to do this DIY, please dont go with any less than the 1000 gph pump. The fittings are all different on the smaller ones.
My 300 came with a faucet and I'm having a hard time removing it so i can use the 3/4 adapter to connect to the rest of the setup. I'm hoping the faucet can be removed somehow
It should just unscrew. It might be on tight. Or yes you can use everything and just connect to that hose bib it will just angle down and might not work perfect. Play with it and let me know. Feel free to message me on IG @dmausjr and i will help you through it
I found your Amazon DIY list for 3/4” setup!! That’s awesome. You mentioned an ozonator in the video. I saw the green water killer on the Amazon page, but not sure that’s it. Hoping to locate something next to the pump and chiller setup which will be about 15’ from the Barrel. Any recommendations for some type of inline sanitizer? Thanks, David!
I put in a UV green killing machine light in my plunge use hydrogen peroxide and water barrel stabilizer, do I need like a marine land water filter in my ice barrel too? I have this exact setup with strainer and all
hi david , is i have the 1/2 hp chiller , will the 3/4 tubing will fit in the top part of the pump trough the chiller ? i think i heard you saying that the top tub attached to the pump is 1 inch ?
Hey David! Thanks for sharing your processes with us. I just followed the exact steps to install an active aqua chiller to my IB 300. Does the strainer get filled to the top when its facing up like that? Mine is only filling up just a little bit so I'm not sure if it's actually filtering the water. Thanks!
Love your videos! So I put together the kit and cracked the lower threaded plug. How do you order parts from IceBarrel? I put in a support ticket and tried to use their chat feature on the site but no luck.
add a quick connect adapter to the release valve part and just quickly disconnect the chiller /pump assembly and empty water to refill the designed way
What do you think about the cold plunge … I know it is pricey but I am looking at the best options to add to my routine … thank you for all the content
Will the 1/4hp chiller work fine for me? Trying to keep this as budget friendly as possible,I’m located in sw Florida so it gets hot but plan on setting it up in my garage
Does the chiller need to run constantly 24/7? I understand you can turn it off for the couple minutes you're in the tub. How long would something like a 1/4 hp chiller take to cool the water 20ish degrees? Thanks as always for the content!
I keep it on 24/7 but it only runs when it needs to chill the water back to set temp. Otherwise its just a pass through. That is a good test, from my experience in FL it doesnt take longer than about 5-6 hours. Basically I would fill up and turn on at night, by morning its cold. In 20 degrees it should take way less time, id leave the lid off in that temp and let it really cool down fast.
David, great video. Quick question. If I wanted to add a filter would that go in the place of the strainer? Or is that something that I would need to add to the system in addition to the strainer? If that is the case, where in the system would it be placed? Thanks for any guidance.
David, thanks so much for all the info you provide. Your videos are crystal clear and your Amazon kits make things so easy! I'm going with the Active Aqua 1HP chiller and I have decided to install it in a waterproof vented deck box. I would like to get the deck box before the chiller arrives but I need to confirm what the vertical dimension is from base of the chiller to the highest point of the hose nipples on top so I can get a box that will accommodate. Can you tell me what that dimension is? I've tried finding it on the Active Aqua website and also through their customer service but I get different responses. I trust you to give me the correct answer. Thanks!
I’m not sure if active aqua has changed their thread sizes since you posted this video, but the active aqua 800gph pump included in your 1/2HP kit does not have 3/4 inch threads inside of the pump, the are 5/8 inch threads. Just a heads up, I still appreciate your videos, but you may want to update that kit because I suspect the 1000GPH pump actually does have 3/4 inch threads but the 800GPH does not.
Hi David. I am terrible at DIY projects. I bought the ice barrel 300 tub and a Nuvio recovery chiller (1/3 HP). I am struggling to figure out how to connect it. Can you help?
Awesome! Not hard at all, you really wont need it permanantly, you could also get a unit to use only when needed. I have a link to the one i use in this video (my cleaning kits) if you want to check it out
Great video. Makes it really simple. I've seen in other videos that you thought 1/4hp chiller would be enough for the IB300. Anymore thoughts on that? I got my barrel and the chiller is next!
So I just purchased an Ice Barrel 300 using your code. Very nice. Question, I live in a four seasons climate and shortly it will be getting cold enough where I will not be having to chill my water much. I would like to filter and keep the water fresh to limit how often I'd have to drain it, especially as it gets colder out. Would it be possible to go from strainer to pump to whole house filter and then back to the plunge, until it starts to get warm out again and I can add the chiller like in this setup? Thanks again
Absolutely! You’d be surprised at how well the strainer does and you could just keep it all running and turn the chiller off in the winter. Did I understand your question correctly? I want to give you the best advice.
@@DavidMausJr I believe so. So same setup as you have here, just turn off the chiller? Water will flow through it but not be chilled by it since there is no need? Am I following? :)
Hey David, been waiting for Ice Barrel's chiller, got rhe email today, looks really nice, but yikes! The price. I'm now thinking about going with your set up here, but it's in my garage so I'm not sure about draining it. Can you explain the best way i would do so?
Important: All ports on the Ice Barrel 300 are 3/4 NPT (not GHT). Several of Dave’s kits include GHT threaded adapters that do not fit the Ice Barrel 300. Using those GHT adapters will result in damaging the threads on the Ice Barrel.
Thanks for the heads up. For reference, i agree with you however the pieces i have in the kits are exactly (after trial and error) what I am using and there are zero issues. I have updated all the kits for the 300 and they have both options. If you want to go with NPT to NPT exclusive, they are the brass options in the kits. Any questions, message me on IG: @dmausjr
Hi David, pinged you earlier on IG as well but speaking of 3/4 NPT to NPT, does Amazon have this in non-brass options? Thinking of removing the brass I've inserted now due to some leaking issues. Also, for the pump, I see a leak at the base of the barbed hose connector. This is the one that came with the pump. Should I purchase a different barbed hose connector for the pump that will fit my 3/4 inch hose? if so what is the thread connector size to the 1000gph pump @@DavidMausJr

Hi I just received my ice barrel three hundred, I bought a intex filter via Amazon. I’m a little confused with setting it up. I can be reached and I’m in south Florida. 😊
Send me a DM on Instagram @dmausjr I can help you through it
Thank you for putting this together, great setup. I have been running for the last two months without issues but recently the filter just stops pumping water after a while which I assume is due to air build up. I primed it by filling the tubes with water and that seems to work for about a day and then the same happens again. Am I doing something wrong and is there a good solution for this? Thank you
Good chance the screen filter is clogged up, take that off and spray it out, that should work
I appreciate you creating this video as it clarifies my questions before investing in a "Cold Plunge". Thank you for creating such informative videos. Your content is truly helpful, and I hope you will continue to produce more of it in the future.
Very welcome!
The silicon tubing in the amazon kit is 3/4 inch inner diameter and you say the tube should be 1 inch, right? I dont understand
The sizing is different for each chiller. It depends on the chiller u pick
1/4 says 800gph but that does not have 3/4 holes. Any ideas if the the 1,000gph pump will be to much
so you found that you didn't need any Teflon tape or o-rings on any of the fittings that you screw in that are from leaking or slightly dripping? also all fittings that were PVC like this for just hand tighten you didn't need tools to stop them from leaking etc..
With the 300 it should be good to go but the 1hp is a complete beast and can handle any heat I’ve thrown at it
@@DavidMausJr thank you sir! Appreciate your work
Always! @@Eric-1776
@davidmausjr. Where did you purchase the active aqua chiller?
amazon. i have links in vid description
Can you use a pump with less power? I have a 400gph and I’m trying to decide if I need to buy the one in the video
If there is any advice I can give to anyone wanting to do this DIY, please dont go with any less than the 1000 gph pump. The fittings are all different on the smaller ones.
Can you run 1,000 on the 1/4 it recommends 500 to 800?
My 1HP is set up with 3/4 inch (connections, hose, etc) ... Any advantages to changing to 1 inch or disadvantages/issues staying with 3/4?
You should be good to go with it! It just helps with water flow rate but you are fine with 3/4"
@DavidMausJr do you recommend using plumbers tape on the thread of the adapters and whatnot?
You can but its not entirely needed.
Anyone know what pump and strainer that is? Can’t find it anywhere
It’s in the kit in the video description
Could i use the all the parts with your 1/2hp kit with 1/4 hp chiller? I would rather have plastic then stainless fittings
For sure just adjust the size if needed
your submersable pump, what is the GPH.. if the rate of GPH is too high for your chiller, would it max out or overheat/overwhelm your chiller?
Could you leave that set up out in a cold garage or out building or would it freeze and break the chiller when it’s below 30 outside?
It should be fine as long as water is always moving through the chiller
I put in a UV green killing machine light in my plunge use hydrogen peroxide and water barrel stabilizer, do I need like a marine land water filter in my ice barrel too? I have this exact setup with strainer and all
hi david , is i have the 1/2 hp chiller , will the 3/4 tubing will fit in the top part of the pump trough the chiller ? i think i heard you saying that the top tub attached to the pump is 1 inch ?
Don’t have a link to the adapters?
They are in all the DIY kits in the description of the video
How often do you change water
About once a month or so
Hey David! Thanks for sharing your processes with us. I just followed the exact steps to install an active aqua chiller to my IB 300. Does the strainer get filled to the top when its facing up like that? Mine is only filling up just a little bit so I'm not sure if it's actually filtering the water. Thanks!
Awesome! It should still filter the water just fine. How’s your water flow?
Love your videos! So I put together the kit and cracked the lower threaded plug. How do you order parts from IceBarrel? I put in a support ticket and tried to use their chat feature on the site but no luck.
Oh no! That a thick plug how did you crack that. Send me a pic of instagram @dmausjr
Is it safe to have it running if you have a gfci plug?
I do, but others say to turn it off. Depends on your safety preferences and experiences
Dumb question, but how do you empty the water once the chiller is attached? Is there a seperate port? Asking for cleaning purposes.
add a quick connect adapter to the release valve part and just quickly disconnect the chiller /pump assembly and empty water to refill the designed way
Great suggestion. Where I have mine I can just open up the strainer canister and it will all drain out
What do you think about the cold plunge … I know it is pricey but I am looking at the best options to add to my routine … thank you for all the content
It's great! I have a deep dive on it too! th-cam.com/video/NsofB5vWSL4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=DKwJtD419Vam0IhG
Will the 1/4hp chiller work fine for me? Trying to keep this as budget friendly as possible,I’m located in sw Florida so it gets hot but plan on setting it up in my garage
I really think so!
Can you do a video on maintenance of The Plunge during the winter months, specifically in NJ
For sure!
Super helpful tutorial. I live in a Europe and wondering if you can recommend the pump/ filter and chiller options available in the EU?
Look up the equivalent to the Active Aqua. I don’t know the name there but the same manufacturer makes most around the world.
Is there a way to add the ports to the 400 to make this work
i am super confident there is a way to do that, i havent yet but thinking about doing it next
Thanks!
Awesome and thanks for the love! I just measured it and you’ll need 24-26” from floor to accommodate the tips and hose. Send me pics on insta @dmausjr
@@DavidMausJr Perfect! Thank you for the response.
Love the video, where was the walkinginrain shut off valve mentioned in the video?
Does it matter if I were to use the Danner 1200 pump with a 1/4 hp chiller? I’d like to have a little more flow than the 950.
I’m not sure if active aqua has changed their thread sizes since you posted this video, but the active aqua 800gph pump included in your 1/2HP kit does not have 3/4 inch threads inside of the pump, the are 5/8 inch threads. Just a heads up, I still appreciate your videos, but you may want to update that kit because I suspect the 1000GPH pump actually does have 3/4 inch threads but the 800GPH does not.
yes it sucks ! difficult to find 5/8 to 3/4 ? I have been looking online and cannot find.
Came back to this video for this exact reason, anyone find a 5/8 to 3/4?
@@chesallen6806I had to solve for this yesterday. They have 5/8” to 3/4” male-male adapters at Lowe’s
Anyone ever figure this out? Does the 1000GHP have 3/4” threads or is there a 3/4 to 5/8” adapter?
Yeah I just ended up buying the 1000GPH pump and it does have 3/4inch threads.
With your Ice barrel 300 setup. How low can you get the temp during Florida’s summer ?
39 on the money, and you can always add ice to that to make it lower. The insulation does an incredible job.
@@DavidMausJr was this using the 1hp or 1/2 hp chiller? I believe you said you keep it outdoors?
Hi David. I am terrible at DIY projects. I bought the ice barrel 300 tub and a Nuvio recovery chiller (1/3 HP). I am struggling to figure out how to connect it. Can you help?
How often do you change your strainer? And does it keep your water clean? I seen others using a bigger filter and what not
I change the water and clean the strainer once a month. It does a great job. A lot of people went overkill but that is the beauty of a DIY
Can I put in garage without or will it sweat a lot ?
You can! The 300 itself wont sweat much at all, but the tubing from the chiller setup will, its not that crazy, but it will.
How hard would it cost to add ozone? I just ordered the Ice Barrel 300 - thank you for the code. I’m going to order the Penguin 3/4 horse chiller.
Yes 1/4 is plenty with the insulation. 🤙🏽
yep that should work perfectly for you!@@erikknapp5775
Hey David, been waiting for Ice Barrel's chiller, got rhe email today, looks really nice, but yikes! The price. I'm now thinking about going with your set up here, but it's in my garage so I'm not sure about draining it. Can you explain the best way i would do so?
Totally! I’m going to do a new video explaining it but there’s a way for sure.
Basically get everything in this kit. amzn.to/3RLFZx9 and it will make sense
looking forward to the video! I see the on off valve is something new in your Amazon list - interesting!
@@DavidMausJr
also, do you think the 25hp chiller is plenty inside a finished garage? I probably won't ever go below 40 degrees@@DavidMausJr
Hey David. Amazon has some 1/2 HP chillers in stock if you want to let people know.
Whoop whoop!!
Thank you @DavidMausJr Very appreciate of your helpful reviews.
Hi my friend your videos are the reason i purchased my ice barrel. I’m looking at the ice barrel chiller and thinking of preordering it. What are you thoughts i know you use the aqua chiller. I just wanted to make sure i made a smart choice before spending 2500$
Glad to help! I havent got a chance to play with the new chiller yet but i hear its going to be epic. I have never had an issue with my DIY setup, check it out here dmjr.co/500DIYkit
@@DavidMausJr I did i love your videos, just curious if you would recommend there’s vs the dyi setup. Dyi looks like it saves you close to 1000$ lol. I know they have no info on it yet. Just thinking dyi or splurge on there’s? Always hard questions.
The adapter you have in your 1" kit is 3/4 GHT to 1" NPT.... is the ice barrel
300 threaded with 3/4" Garden Hose Thread or is it 3/4" National Pipe Thread? If it is 3/4" NPT you have the wrong adapter on your amazon page.
SHOULD BE NPT. Amazon links keep changing it up, im sorry. Fixing now.
Just used your code brotha, looking forward to getting the 300
You rock! Enjoy it!
Do you have a kit/build with 1/4hp? I think that might be all I need with the 300 inside.
For sure! That is a good option for the 300
Thanks for all the helpful content brother! If you choose not to run the chiller 24/7 do you turn both the chiller and pump off?
Thanks!! You sure can, but it will also shut itself off when the desired temp is reached (the chiller)
Hey David, what is the lowest temp you are able to get down to on the 1/2HP or 1HP chillers when used with the ice barrel 300?
39
you said it runs 24/7 out side ?
is it uncovered? rained on?
mine is coming in today , excited thanks for all the great info
That is correct! Awesome!! Enjoy!
Have you tried, or have an opinion on the Penguin chiller?
I have not but i have also not heard many good things about it
Thanks for the response.
I accidentally damaged the fittings supplied by Ice Barrell. I waiting for a reply from ice Barrell, but am willing to purchase on Amazon if you know of any solutions? I’m using a 1” tubing. Thx
Oh no! DM me on Instagram @dmausjr a pic of what you damaged
David, I'm wondering about having the pump run only when the chiller runs. Do you have any thoughts on that?
You can absolutely put this on a timer and save some electricity cost.
Great video on this install!
Thank you!
I really like the ice barrel 300, but I would like it even more if it had 1 in threaded holes instead of the 3/4 in. It seems like you will be putting a strain on the chiller if you opt for a chiller that has 1 in intake outlet.
Totally agree. 1” would be epic. That’s why I recommend getting the 3/4 - 1 inch adapter.
@@DavidMausJr hey thanks for replying. Even with the adapter, you're still shrinking the hole to 3/4-in. Still hoping they upgrade to a one inch hole and let people buy adapters to get it down to 3/4-in if they want, haha
Thanks for the great work by the way on your channel. Excellent coverage of products from all angles.
I have a question can I use a 1/2 horsepower chiller with 2 pumps to cool and filtrate 2 ice barrel 300’s at same time?
That is an EXCELLENT question and i honestly dont see why not. however i would probably go with the 1HP for the amount of water you want to push.
Has anyone used the 1,000 pump with the 1/4 chiller. I see the recommend 500 to 800 but would like to use the 3/4 adapters. Smaller pumps use 5/8
