  • Serving trays come in many different shapes and sizes but the best ones are ones that you make by hand! And it's so rewarding to customize them to suit your style and flare. Whether you’re working with metal, wood or another substrate, ArtResin provides endless possibilities when designing your very own serving tray.
    Mixed media artist and TH-cam influencer Dan Rodo has been working with resin, creating anything from resin apples to vintage cameras. Recently he stopped by the ArtResin HQ to experiment and guide us step-by-step in creating 2 customized metal trays.
    Here's what you'll need:
    • ArtResin epoxy resin - www.artresin.c...
    metal trays
    • ResinTint liquid colorants - www.artresin.c...
    • sprinkles
    • silicone star tray
    • glue gun and glue sticks
    • Tuck Tape
    • foam core
    • a marker
    • scissors and/or X-acto knife
    • a spreader to blend your tinted resin - www.artresin.c...
    • nitrile gloves
    • plastic mixing bucket
    • small plastic cups and stir sticks, enough for each color of tint
    • a plastic drop sheet to line your work surface
    • an Artist's Torch - www.artresin.c...
    • a dust cover large enough to cover your piece

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use sandpaper to scuff up a smooth surface to give it more tooth, we didn't do that in this case since ArtResin typically adheres well to metals. Just be sure the surface is clean and dry and free fro ay oily residue before you start.

      I thought when you mix party A and part B together a chemical reaction occurs and causes harmful fumes, even if you can't smell them, they are still there. From what I've read, all craft epoxy does this and that's why proper ppe is needed

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rachelsnailshop7074 The ArtResin formula is an extremely pure formula made from the purest raw materials. There are no solvents or cheap diluents that other epoxy resin brands use to stretch the material. As a result, everything reacts in the chemical reaction leaving nothing behind. This means there are no VOCs or fumes coming off the product into the air, which can cause respiratory distress and other serious health problems.

      Hi Paul, thanks for the feedback and we are glad you enjoyed the video. • @Artresin

      Typically ArtResin does not adhere well to plastics, but you could try scuffing the surface and see if its enough to prevent delamination.

    Why wouldn’t you just make gold and red stars in the silicone star molds, tack those down to the tray (glue dots would work) and then pour the white resin around them? And use keychain letter molds to do the same for your initials. I don’t understand what the point of the extra steps were.

      Plastic is a surface that ArtResin will not bond strongly too. If you did want to try it on plastic you would want to use sandpaper to scuff up the surface to provide tooth, but this still doesn't guarantee a perfect bond.

    • @Artresin
      @Artresin  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Annamarie, ArtResin was developed as a surface coating for artwork, meant to be poured at a thickness of 1/8". You can use ArtResin for thicker applications like molds as long as you pour in layers of 1/8" to allow the bubbles to clear. We know many artists who use ArtResin for not only coating their paintings, but also for wood, small molds, etc.

      We could have done that if we were going to make a silicone mold to cast the resin into, but we didn't have a silicone mold for the initials, so we found a way to make them ourselves.
