    I miss commercial jingles! They’re just so full of optimism and energy! The 80s commercial format is so infectious! It gives hope!

    Jim Caldwell’s story was pretty inspiring! He retired from IBM in 1999 and passed away last year at the age of 81.

    1:30 - Oh, sure, it's all happy upbeat 80s music when the cars start driving by themselves, until they inevitably start reenacting moments from Stephen King's Christine or Maximum Overdrive...

      Christine I can't really call her bad as long as you respected her and her owner she would leave you be.

    - 0:46 I can’t help but say “Now THAT’S an 80’s hairstyle.”
    - 5:26 I know that overall 80’s commercials are better than today’s. But the Subaru dogs for today’s are pretty cool compared to these.
    - 7:16 The phrase “Helps knock out the knocks” lives rent-free in my head.
    - Bringing back the John Wayne commercial was pretty cool.
    - 13:41 Richard Paul?
    - 15:22 That was unnecessary.
    - 22:08 Anybody know who had the rights to this song at the time?
    - 30:03 Was that a shot of Candace on Kirk’s left?

    25:20 - this man’s words need to be heard today. He wanted to be appreciated on the basis of his merits, not be treated differently because of a disability. Nowadays, “victimhood status” is valued as a sort of social currency that can be weaponized to leverage certain privileges. It is a shame. People should be appreciated as individuals who have their own value, not lumped together as part of a group. THIS MAN UNDERSTOOD THIS.

    I remember where I was when these commercials were on - down the Jersey Shore. We had ABC on for much of the weekend.
    From one of your previous volumes in 1982 (Vol. 171) there was a commercial for Stuart Anderson's Black Angus Restaurants - it looks like they shortened their name by 1986.
    I guess they weren't together any longer at the very end!

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They were definitely known as just Black Angus Steakhouse by the late 80's/early 90's with no "Stuart Anderson's" at the front. I think whatever naming iteration this was, it was short lived.

    • @saturdaymorning329
      @saturdaymorning329 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you go in, Stuart Anderson's is still mentioned in short reference as to how the steakhouse was made. The square cow is still a bar in the restaurant.

    Did you, in fact, post the rest of Liberty weekend? I'm particularly looking for the fireworks show, which as I recall was hosted by most of ABC News, including a delightful little bit where Sam Donaldson wanted to narrate something and Hugh Downs basically told him to shut the hell up and watch the fireworks. I've been looking for that for 30 years now.

      Not denying the tech is in development, but the implementation of driverless cars on a national scale is still several years (if not more than a decade) away. There are still a lot of legal, technological and safety issues to overcome.

    • @Lovejazz01
      @Lovejazz01 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Pretty sure it's not a piece of popular music...it was probably composed specifically for the ad. Sounds like a ripoff of "The Heat Is On" by Glenn Frey.

      I just ran it past Google Music Search, and it... throws its hands up in despair.
      He's almost certainly right: it's some piece of production music, maybe resung with custom lyrics for this spot (though I doubt it).
