Absolute mind game mechanic right there. Players have to respect what their characters would normally do, and if they don't do it, they then have to come up with alternative solutions. Great way to make an encounter more challenging
Yeah. Also, it made the players think outside the box and not stick to their usual repetitive routine in combat. As such, by making a bet with Bob, Bob was reminded and was able to use eldritch blast rather than sticking with his Bow and sneak attack. Most importantly, this will have a great impact with Rowan as to how he will behave in combat. Will he stick with Rage + Smash? Or will get creative and use intimidate-for example.
It's pretty cool, but I would have personally added another effect. Here's my version Draw two cards. Flip the first card and show it to the players, this is how much HP he gambles, Ace is one, jack is 11, queen is 13, king is 15 (skip 14) Keep the second card hidden, this is who he is betting against and what the trigger is: (Four players four suits) A-4 : attack action 5-10: Cast a spell action Jack: Dodge, Hold Action/Spell Queen: Anything not Attack or cast a spell King: Either Cast a Spell or Attack action. This means that until the card is flipped neither party knows what it is. Of course this DOES remove player autonomy to try and circumvent the bet, it does make it truly a gamble All in all I think it's really cool and fitting for a lair action. Most lair actions are just boring environmental hazards, having the boss as the liar action is pretty nifty.
@AarPlays This would have a significant chance each time that he bets a pathetic little amount of HP, like less than 5, which is boring, and/or that he bets Bodger takes the cast a spell action or Baradun takes the Attack action, or any one of them takes the Dodge action which I don't think any of them ever have. Sounds interesting but try it out and I bet you find that the majority of your lair actions are wasted and/or boring.

170 and still GREAT! Love it! Did not miss one week, but I love the recaps, too!
"Guess where this is attached" 🤣🤣
Did you guess…?
@@VivaLaDirtLeagueDnD to the rest of the suit...definitely a not a kind of plug
Thanks to this episode, I had to go down the rabbit hole of learning what uwu means, as this is the first I've heard of it. Even after having the joke explained to me, it's still great. Not even once!
I may have said this before. But I really love these guys as much as the crew from the British comedy ‘Red Dwarf’. A bunch of guys being themselves.
Yes!!
I normally don't like sponsor readouts, but I'm proud of you guys for coming this far & you deserve it. Love you guys, keep it coming
😂 Greg's the Bob this fight and I'm loving it
Nice episode, finally at the battle scene. Am i the only one that remembers wotsit? Also bodger polymorph?!
Loved the mechanic btw Rob 😁👍
And here I was thinking Adam couldn't get more adorbs.
Hi Zaddy
@@VivaLaDirtLeagueDnD 😏
@@VivaLaDirtLeagueDnDguess where this is attached ☺️
LOL ok I lost it during the uwu dragon and BOB being like NO. That is so good, I'm so glad I'm able to catch up on these now and see them.
13:58 Loving the onesie!!
Absolutely loved the troll 2 reference!
A genius idea from Rob with tose leir actions!!!
Thanks!
Great content. Good start to the fight. Fight just began and I feel as though not much happened. Really wish these were longer.
That’s a good idea for a skit, real life D&D at work and you roll like BOB 😂
gotta admire bodger's dedication to the whole tutorial thing
You guys are amazing. Any chance of adding behind the screen? You guys a didna few episodes back in the start and they were really awesome, gave us a little peak at robs mindset.
I love how they stopped at "likes to shovel". You know damn well, Greg was about to say bull shit. Baradun is all about gloating and shoveling the BS. LOL
That's because Greg was thinking about all the human feces he still has at the shop to shovel.
Congrats on getting a sponsor. Means the channel is doing pretty well. I am glad you can get some extra revenue so I can watch these for free😊
Yup! It helps the channel a lot 😃
Rob being so adamant about Spell casting not breaking your Invisibility is a horrifying sign of a future boss lol
woah you've finaly got a sponsor for this chanel. nice! glad to see it growing!
20:21 Biscuits!
I stopped watching TV series about 15 years ago but I want this to go on forever!
Rowan "stealing" Rob's dice pouch had me do a double take bc it's so uncanny.
And he did it twice, too. That pouch is huge
It's a pot of gold!
Ben laughed the second time Rowan plopped that bag of dice down to raid its contents
Im genuinely surprised Bob didn't try to Mage hand the mask
...yet
Congrats on the sponsorship. Hope this helps with the project and we get more episodes 🎉❤
I am not a dungeon master by any means.. but I have so much respect for Rob's patience.. trying to teach people rules to any new game, especially if they're drinking is the bane of my table top existence..
I did NOT expect to see Rob saying uwu today, JUST WATHED THE REST OF THE BIT AND I SAY THE SAME FOR ADAM.
Rob has at least 26 dragons. He's hosting a game from Dungeons & Dragons, and there's not a single dragon in the room? 🐉 (plus it’s the year of the wooden Dragon)
There is Polish channel called G.F. Darwin which actually made short fun videos about elves and orcs playing 'Offices and Humans' and 'Presidents and Prime Ministers' :)
Thank you for that, I'll go check them out later! Do they just do the skits in Polish?
Yes. But there are english subtitles:)
@@michal888ful oh, it's not an issue about the language, I was wondering because my father likes these things and his first language is polish, so I will probably show them to him!
Show him that for sure. But I suggest to start with their older videos cause they have few series that are good to watch as they were released to avoid spoilers, also the D&D skits are connected into the story about the players:) and the older one are way better:)
@@michal888ful thank you for the tip ☺️ getting excited now to look them up later on my lunch break
In the game Offices and Bosses everyone must roll with disadvantage the entire game when the coffee's out, or if someone microwaves fish
I'd usually be annoyed about the sponsor bit in the beginning, but it was just so damn professional, I didn't even care lol.
Great episode, also, we all dream of Adam and Bens hair. Their sweet caress in the ending moments is the romance movie of 2024 😉
I love Baradun saying: I won’t choose a Thunder dragon against a necrotic cloud giant, I’ll choose a necrotic dragon 😅
Oh, this betting-based actions are so interesting! Very cool, Rob!
Thanks!
13:56: ... almost physically painful to watch! 😩🤣🤣🤣😩
14:15: THANK YOU BOB!!!
@11:51 Genuine appreciation for the rogue!! I love it!!😂
4:08: Nice mod to the initiative rule! Mind if I **Yoink** ... too late. Adopted! 😇😇😇
Steal away!
I think I took 3d12 psychic damage from that uwu dragon skit lol
3:37 Bodger gets so mad he sends his finger to the ethereal plane
30:29 I have a rogue that argues the exact same thing when I reveal they're no longer hidden hahaha!
I wish Rob was my tables DM! Dude has patience, timing and storytelling dialed in on another level. BATDH 4 life haha
Cheers VLDL!
It's all fun and games until Rowan has to roll the dice 😆 I honestly can't tell anymore if it's just Rowan acting or being himself. Great ep as always!
I dare Adam to say "VLDL Deal" 5 times fast.
It was a bit of a tongue twister 😅
I love how Rowan has a flowchart.
Superfast build mode song is on!?!? Yoo, Scar has an impact.🎉
Greg: "How much did he get right?" Immediately discover he got it all wrong!
