I know the end was hard to swallow for the boys but that was phenomenal by Portugal maybz their best ever game by far. Keep your heads high fellas, there‘s a lot more to come in the next 12 months.

Una "quasi replica" della vittoria contro l'Uruguay: tanto amaro in bocca e piu' domande aperte che risposte, da salvare il fatto che i giocatori non hanno mollato e hanno ripreso per i capelli una partita che si stava incanalando verso il disastro, vedremo se la squadra italiana riuscira' a svegliarsi contro la Romania e la Georgia; Sulla carta i prossimi due incontri saranno piu' difficili, ma gli avversari probabilmente hanno meno propensione al gioco veloce con i tre quarti che i portoghesi hanno interpretato benissimo e i nostri non sono riusciti a contrastare come si dovrebbe. Complimenti al Portogallo che avrebbe meritato quantomeno il pareggio.
Nothing to say: Portugal, and we knew it, is a good team! Anyway Italy was not on the job, we were wrong to undervalue Portugal, added to this that we have some not strong player such as Trulla and we risked losing..
Portugal are a team rapidly improving. Every time I see them play I note their backs are world class. How many Italians were missing though? I think it was more an Italy A side but still fantastic from Portugal.
I knew it was gonna be a tough test for gli Azzuri and even more with the bit of experimenting they did comp wise. Will only retain the fact that they never quit mentally and fight to the very end. Now off to Bucarest for an other interesting game! Would also like to see Tomaso Allan back in blue for that one. And also a huge huge congrats to the portugues! I love their style ! It's also with these kind of game that we see RCE teams are closing the gap. With more depth on their side they could become serious threats to Tier 1 teams on a given day. The GEO-SPA-POR-ROM-RUS quintet definitely deserves more tests opportunity against top teams!
Sì, si deve allargare al top di livello il rugby in Europa. Si dovrebbe fare ogni due anni un Europeo a 16 squadre... Basta il rugby di élite. 10 anni fa vincemmo 83-0 a L'Aquila, ora queste nazionali si sono evolute secondo me. La Georgia sicuramente sarebbe degna del 7Nazioni
Games like this one confirms that there should be a relegation / promotion to the 6 Nations. To me Georgia is the country that showed the most potential and the few times France played them I found them more complete than Italy. Now it does not mean they are stronger but judging by the perceived improvements by teams such as Spain, Portugal, Romania and Georgia, rather than having the Springboks which seems ridiculous to me, we should have an open door to whoever wins the lower European Nations Cup. Rugby must start giving these Nations a reason to invest more in rugby and a chance to progress. There has to be a path from the lower Euro Nations cup to the 6 Nations. Or at least maybe the wooden spoon should play a qualifier against whoever comes first in the lower Euro Nations Cup. I think that would be fair because it gives both the wooden spoon and the other Euro team a chance to show that they deserve to be in the 6 Nations. South Africa to me is an absolute NO GO in the 6 Nations. As exciting as it would be, they are not a European Nation and supporters have to be able to travel in Europe or to its border in the case of Georgia. The 6 Nations should not become the Rugby Championship where supporters cannot afford to fly and have no other choice but to support their team form behind a TV screen. This is not the spirit of the 6 Nations, the 6 Nations is all about supporters getting together, enjoying the game together, getting a drink outside the stadium after and so on. This is a huge part of the tournament, without supporters, there is no 6 Nations. This is why it has to stay European, sorry South Africa. Imagine a 6 Nations game in Porto or Lisbon, that would be absolutely fantastic because supporters from other Nations will travel there without a doubt. They have big stadia, lively crowds so this is definitely what the 6 Nations organizers should be moving towards. We need a qualifier between wooden spoon and the newbie. That would be fair and that would be exciting too for every Nations involved, bring some edge, bring some competition, bring a new stadium, open the tournament a little without betraying its core value and supporters. I really hope this will happen sooner than later.
I don't we should be stuck with the six nations format. Have the six nations every two years, and in the other years you have a world cup and a european championship with the REC
I said exact same thing elsewhere. Cannot believe this hasn't happened yet. It's boring seeing Italy trounced each year, it would be far more interesting seeing what a new team can do. And now Georgia has some tough competition in the tier below it won't necessarily always be them. It will also be an incentive for Italy to raise their game. Regards SA I agree but tbf most of SA lives in the UK and Europe, they wouldn't have a problem providing fans. Obviously away trips to SA would be a bit silly so you're right.

We must keep it this way, otherwise it will be all about Club and we have had enough Club vs Country debates over the years to weaken the oldest Rugby tournament in the World. Countries like Portugal must develop their domestic league first and foremost. Besides if you play the 6 Nations every 2 years, there will be no point getting the Wooden Spoon to play the 2nd tiers for qualifier. You want the 2nd tiers to have a go every year, not once every two years.

Great game from both teams ! Surprising level for Portugal but too many penalties, at such a high level, to keep the lead. Promising though, let's see what the future brings them. Many players in the "Lobos" side are in the French Top14 and ProD2 championships, it explains somehow their physicality and skilled game.
Seeing this now in October 2023 we could see already that Portugal was forming a great. Always remembering that most of the Portuguese players are still amateurs, working jobs daily 9 to 5. (well in Portugal it's more 9 to 13 and 15 to 19, we usually have a 2 hour break for lunch)

The reason teams like Portugal, chile etc are doing well is because their team is made up of maximum 5 different clubs meaning they play together all the time. Individually Italy are clear but they don’t play together as much which is so important in rugby

I agree, very fast penalty try. It was if Italy played the role of a home nations in 6 nations in that game : even when playing a crappy play, they have to win at all cost, with or without referee help. I am Italian, by the way.
I am Italian and I commented in several occasions that I would like a format where the last of the six Nations (not necessarily Italy) plays a play off with the winner of the Rugby Europe Championship (what is often incorrectly called six Nations B), a mini series of two matches would in my opinion be ideal, this would clean the air of any doubt on the "moral right" to be part the competition. Like it or not at the moment this solution is not even considered: the tournament is a closed league that belongs to the six national rugby federations, and all six are heavily dependent on the six Nations money, losing it even for a single year in case of a bad season would mean either bankruptcy or a very heavy expense reduction that would then take years to be readdressed even in case of immediate promotion the following year; the reality is that the Home Nations and France are not prepared to consider that formula.
Nah. Italy simply was believing to experimenting as they want with youngs vs a well oiled Portugal that drawed with Georgia a few months ago. Then when Italy understood that it was too much experimenting, they put the second half the big ones and won the matches. That's all. Pretty much the same when Wales was almost losing vs Georgians to do experiments with players. Are test matches for a reson...
It's such a shame for an underdog to play better, more beautiful rugby and then get undone by mauls. So many tier 2 nations struggle to defend mauls vs tier 1 sides, am I the only one getting really sick of it? World Rugby should nerf mauls

I agree, very fast penalty try. It was if Italy played the role of a home nations in 6 nations in that game : even when playing a crappy play, they have to win at all cost, with or without referee help. I am Italian, by the way.

I am Italian and I commented in several occasions that I would like a format where the last of the six Nations (not necessarily Italy) plays a play off with the winner of the Rugby Europe Championship (what is often incorrectly called six Nations B), a mini series of two matches would in my opinion be ideal, this would clean the air of any doubt on the "moral right" to be part the competition.
Like it or not at the moment this solution is not even considered: the tournament is a closed league that belongs to the six national rugby federations, and all six are heavily dependent on the six Nations money, losing it even for a single year in case of a bad season would mean either bankruptcy or a very heavy expense reduction that would then take years to be readdressed even in case of immediate promotion the following year;
the reality is that the Home Nations and France are not prepared to consider that formula.
Nah. Italy simply was believing to experimenting as they want with youngs vs a well oiled Portugal that drawed with Georgia a few months ago. Then when Italy understood that it was too much experimenting, they put the second half the big ones and won the matches. That's all.

It's such a shame for an underdog to play better, more beautiful rugby and then get undone by mauls. So many tier 2 nations struggle to defend mauls vs tier 1 sides, am I the only one getting really sick of it? World Rugby should nerf mauls
Why should they nerf mauls? Mauls are part of the game. If tier 1 nations are better at it, then maybe that's why they are tier 1.
