What a passionate and emotional experience it must be to attend a service at Frank Newsome's Old Regular Baptist Church in Haysi, Virginia. I'd guess that the tears flow freely. Whether you share his faith or not, he sums up the pain of human suffering more eloquently than any singer I've heard in a long, long time.
You can hear everything in this man's voice. Every emotion but fear that is. Grief, longing, compassion, brokenness, contrition, humility, hope, and just about all the way on down the gamut. That's true accapella in the tradition right there.

i just this preacher newsome in bristol tn at a music fest. he did a sunday morning workshop on gospel and it was one of the most moving things i have ever witnessed. it was unreal emotion.

Mitchell where in a small Pensacola Methodist Church, Lon Autrey sang in the same style with a passion and grace only early settlers past on to their children and grandchildren. He, one of many, inspired myself down a road of music that has also blessed and encoraged others to develope their own musical gifts. Its a sound thats growing faint with each passing day.
