My grandmother played this for me as a child. I would spend the night with her and we would listen to these beautiful songs . It will forever etched in my memory, so many wonderful songs, another favorite is I’ll fly Away. Thank you Grandma
I love these old songs. I hardly recognize the music in church today. God Bless the heirs of these amazing singers. Thank you for sharing these songs. I have a stack of the old cassettes and cd's Love them still....
There are a lot of good singing groups but in my opinion no one compares to the Chuck Wagon Gang. I listened to this group as far back as I can remember and I love their singing as much today as I did then...60 years or so ago. I LOVE that the only accompaniment they had was that one guitar and I loved the signature "strum" at the beginning of every song. What a great group they were!
Maryann Anderson Right Ms. Anderson, When you have Talent". You dont need a bunch Of drums & other instrument to Drown Out You Mistakes. Great Harmony, Will stand on Its own.
I used to run in from playing outside with excitement moms are they on yet I would stand by the radio and listen until your program was over just want to tell you that such a tribute and blessing to a small child thank you influenced my life God bless
Ditto to all of the good comments already made. They were one of the first gospel groups I heard after I got saved and I have appriciated thier lack of change over the years. They sing so clearly not the seductive whispery voice that is so previlant today. God bless all of them for giving several generations good simple enjoyable christian music.
I have always enjoyed listening to this group. Like other people there is no better Gospel group out there, I said always and that goes back to mi'd 1950's
I got to see this group when I was a little boy....maybe 1966 or 67. My dad was holding me when he talked to the bass singer and Anna....I never will forget that.
When I first got saved in 1974, I moved to a very little town in the country and every day they would play the cwg songs at lunch time on the local radio station. For that hour every day I was in heaven. I loved them so much and still love to hear them sing.
I raised up listening to their songs my dad bought it and every Sunday morning my mom would play them that's beautiful singing thank you for sharing my mom still have the records
saw cwg in concert here in mt joy pa a couple months back and they certainly honor that wonderful original sound! i love all types of Christian music[ well,im not much for rap], but if it honors God and the scriptures im ok with folks listening to it. anyway if you ever are able to hear these folks live, dont miss it!!! one of their newer songs that really touched my heart was 'someday', blessings to you all.
My dad has some of their 45s he bought in the 60s. I digitized and burned them onto a CD for him and put them on my iPod while I was at it. The harmony is amazing.
It's my first time listening to this. Suddenly, I am tapping my foot on the ground. This is a really good song, especially when they are ministering about the Word of God (Exodus 3). ⛪ Thanks for the video. 👍🏽
I'm hearing a song called "Set your house in order"on JOY FM, a regional "Southern Gospel" station, and some of the lyrics are so far off-base, that it's simply not to be believed! The song is done by Gordon More, with, of all people, the Oak Ridge Boys, doing the backing vocals. I haven't heard a song that far off-base in a long time, especially when the very first verse starts out with a lie! This is what it says:"King Hezekiah rested in the warm sunshine. He saw Isaiah coming with a burden on his mind. King Hezekiah trembled at the Prophet's words-"Set your house in order, for the coming of the LORD". Scripturally, that's not what happened! King Hezekiah was sick, and Isaiah told him to set his house in order, because he was going to die, and not live. King Hezekiah, upon hearing these words, turned his face to the wall, and cried out for mercy from God. God heard King Hezekiah's prayer, stopped Isaiah as he was walking away, right there in the King's court, and told Isaiah that he'd heard King Hezekiah's prayer, and that he'd give him 15 more years to live. Isaiah even told the King that God would give him a sign of this, through the Sundial of a certain King that had lived before King Hezekiah. He had a choice: Should the shadow of the Sundial go forward 10 degrees, or back 10 degrees? King Hezekiah said:"It is a light thing for the shadow to go forward 10 degrees. Let it go backwards 10 degrees, and God actually reversed time 10 degrees (40 minutes)! I wish that these songwriters would get the song lyrics, and their lives too, straight before God!!!!!
A few years ago I seen them when the group consisted of Stan (Tenor), Penny (Alto). Julie (Soprano) and Dave (Bass and guitar) and they were GREAT!!. Today I seen them and the group consisted of Stan (Tenor), Shaye (Alto), Melissa (Soprano) and Jeremy (Bass and guitar) and they STILL sounded GREAT!! To me it was amazing to see how much Shaye not only looked like, but sounded like her grandmother Anna, who was the ORIGINAL alto singer for the Chuck Wagon Gang. They are still singing it the way the original group sung it, and I think the original members would be proud that they are.
Hello Greg, I appreciate your comments about how great the Gang sounded. My sister is Shaye, my grandmother was Anna. I sang soprano for about 2 years back in 1999-2001 as well. My sister is the owner, and when Penny was singing, it was when Shaye was taking leave to have her third child. Penny was a great stand in, for sure! Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for oyur kind words. God Bless
I'm the same way, Angie. Our church, Calvary Fellowship Free Will Baptist (in Fenton, MO -- suburb of St. Louis), does quite a few praise and worship choruses on Sunday morning, although they tend to throw in more hymns on Sunday evenings.
Yes, this is three of the original Gang and I love it for the rare glimpse of Jim after he retired in 1953. I also enjoyed his pre-1954 accoustic guitar over the electric of Anna's husband, Howard, (or any other electric since) but that is probably just nostalgia of the original sound. Wonderful video!
These earliest CWG recordings touch me with nostalgia for a time when the dominant American culture was Christian. We've sadly fallen far since the 40's. Today's tolerance for the disgusting and bizarre makes us old-timers sick at heart. Advances in technology and ease of life today cannot even begin to compensate for what has been lost.

The 'good ole days' also meant so-called Christians going along with bigotry, racism, agreeing with and facilitating apartheid Jim Crow laws, wrongfully thinking Jesus turned water into grape juice, and assuming our Lord was a white guy even though he was a Middle Easterner of color. Still, I love the Chuck Wagon Gang and, in fact, just interviewed Wagon Gang lead singer Shaye Smith for an article to be out in a few days.
Derek, GOD brought you here just to understand him even more. Christians have helped many races when people just like you were hurting them. You know GOD is real or you wouldn't be here.
