there's something so special about seeing Jesse still giving great performances of The Year Summer Ended In June, still paying tribute to two friends that passed away over 20 years ago
This was a beautiful moment. Probably such a nice nostalgia trip for so many people there. Misery Signals music is really unique and transcends its genre. Sophisticated/entertaining song form, wonderful sense of harmony/melody, complex rhythmic ideas that don't suck, great riffs, crazy musical dynamics... I could go on... but yeah you could tell even in 7 angels 7 plagues that they had a uniquely artful vision for their music. These dudes were so influential to so many bands going forward.
Like everyone else has already said, this band is a nostalgia bomb. Their music really stands up, after all this time. A Victim, A Target is still a go-to for deadlifts.
one can clearly see the syncopation between the fans and the music with which they connected years ago..the room is full of throwdowns, nostalgia and energies of all sorts.. got me teary eyed when they all let go the moment the band hit the breakdown in failsafe.. fucking spiritual
Grew up going to hardcore shows in upstate NY. These guys opened for a lot of my favs at the time. I remember them being too good not to mosh to early on...youd be spent by the time the headliner came on. Hardcore with emotions lol. Glad to see them all these years later 🙌
Thank you for documenting this. As someone also getting into documenting local Philly music, sets like these are such an important part of building Philly up as the premier spot for music.
I'm newer into bands like Misery Signals. I got super into Counterparts, SYSC, and Foreign Hands recently and every time i go to the comments on their songs i get put on to older bands like Misery Signals, Underoath, Emery, and Poison the well etc. Its really cool to see how a lot of the sounds evolve but stay the same at the same time. You're doing the lords work by putting out videos at the rate that you do. Also, people feel free to put me on to new (to me) music!
I fucking love Misery Signals. I listened to Of Malic And The Magnum Heart so much in my younger years. Thank you so much for posting this and to TIHC for letting them play. Wishing I could've been there with the other mid 30 year olds!
I love how much Jesse shares the mic with the crowd. Does it sound nearly as good as it would if he just kept it? No but I can speak firsthand, we need that mic in our faces. ❤️
Awesome. I didn't even realize Misery Signals were back with the original vocalist or that they put out a new album in 2020... I was a pretty huge fan of their first few albums, I must have listened to Controller and Mirrors a million times back when I used to deliver pizzas, but I really liked their first album too. Then somehow their albums made it out of my regular rotation and I guess I just forgot about them. I'm excited to check out their new material and revisit Absent Light because I totally forgot about that album.
Had the pleasure of seeing Mis Sigs in Edmonton a couple years ago. Love the constant crowd interaction with Jesse letting the crowd sing into the mic during the set. Super powerful live band.
These artists areca staple in Hardcore. I am 44 and at one time followed a group of artistd called 7 Angels 7 Plagues. I remember researching what happened to them as artists and i was directed to Misery Signaks. I listened to Misery Signals first L.P. which i think was of Malice And The Magnum Heart. I remember i was so grateful to hear that some of the members were still playing music. There art will remain timeless and they have truly done so much good. As of 3 years ago i became disabled and in chronic pain with a severe TBI. I have struggled and as im listening now the positive emotions of nostalgia make me tear up thinking of better days.
