The clip is from "Night Walk" a 1986 "slow television" concept show shot in Toronto that aired until 1993. They also created episodes of "Night Ride" and "Night Moves". Cool stuff!
I never heard of the "slow television" concept but I know that all the through the late 1990s early 2000s - alot of local TV stations would sometimes have like mini TV shows where they would basically highlight areas of the city or shopping malls in a movie type of portrayal. I believe it was done for business purposes as to promote businesses and for advertising.
I was around 5. My parents took me to the mall at night to meet some of their friends. I was impressed how that place was huge. I ate at McDonald's but at that time there were neither happy meal nor toys. My only pleasure was looking at that gigantic place during the early nineties. After dining we left the place, while its stores were closing. I wondered how nice it would be to remain inside an empty closed mall. That idea got stuck on my mind for years. We then got in the car and drove home, through the buildings of an empty but illuminated city. Yes, vaporwave made me remember one of the oldest memories I have.
@@markcolt1114 It was around 1993. After a little research I discovered that there was happy meal in my country since 1979, but certainly I was too young and absent minded to notice that.
I’ve been the same way for as long as I remember. I was a strange child. I liked cloudy skies, expansive cold places, echoey places and especially malls. They made my little kid mind feel some things I couldn’t quite describe.
I have the strangest attraction to vaporwave. I don't really understand it. I can't believe I'm actually nostalgic for the 90s. It seemed like such a forgettable decade at the time. I'm a huge sucker for tape effects and electronic music in general, so that might be part of it. Either way, thank you for the awesome music! Please don't stop.
For me, it's because it tickles shards of memories from back then. Half asleep in the back of the car while 90s jams played on the radio, the muzak playing in the background of malls and K-mart, falling asleep in front of the TV on friday and saturday night. Vaporwave is like listening to those memories, complete with the weird slowdowns and distortions.

And I don't usually like ALL of it, but I do it to select new, great vaporwave tracks for my collection and playlist. After a whole day of just looking for new stuff on TH-cam, it's always great to come back to a compilation with no single second wasted. Literally every track here is gold. Dear Vapor Memory, I have been listening to your collections for three years now. Wow! I have not found any one else who has better taste in VW. My friend, these selections of yours still remain the very best vaporwave collections yet to be found! Please, please, please, give us a Selected Works 6!
You know, as I sit in my bed watching this, listening to this, I begin to wish places like this existed again. Physical spaces, you know where you can goto, where others can goto. The mind can be clear. I think the soundtrack to the images are what make me long for this. As of now the online habits of the lockdowns have stuck. I really miss when you could just do a night walk or a night ride instead of Netflix or selecting one out of a gazillion videos to watch. 🤔 Nice vid. Thanks for creating the space for reflection.
