Never really considered myself to be feeling down etc, but the comment about the most difficult part of it is to get ready to out on the bike. That spoke to me, this summer too often I just sat on the sofa instead of getting the bike out. But you’re not wrong, the days I actually got my bike out I came home feeling so much better!

@TamMullen. I hear you mate. I don’t think I suffer from depression either. I’m just such a lazy bastard, it’s sometimes hard to motivate myself to get off my arse, get the bike ready, get togged up, etc. BUT, when I do, I always love it and feel heroic!

I thought I was the only one who felt like this. It got to the point where I wished it would rain so I could have a valid excuse not to ride. I still battle with this, yet every time I ride, I come back home feeling way better.

Nice to hear you are putting the new 1300GS through its paces. I really like it, but one thing that concerns me is the missing tail light - it was already getting silly on the later 1250 models with the stupid front marker lights and multi-function rear indicator / tail light / stop light arrangement. In the last video you mentioned that press launches are a great way of talking with the factory engineers, does anyone ever mention this to BMW? Many people I know hate these things and think they are dangerous. Love the videos by the way, thanks for putting them up.

Mental health and riding, what it means
I’ll be transported to a unique world of discovery.
I’ll be melding spiritually with the machine.
She’ll come to life, she’ll talk with me,
I’ll show her tenderness of touch and she’ll respond with a violent force.
I’ll ask her to care for me and she’ll respond with powerful deceleration and cradle me in her lean angle.
As our souls intertwine a peaceful world unfolds within the chaos that attempts to tear us from the tarmac and desires to separate us for eternity.
I’ll eventually park, and I can’t help but look back at her.
She truly holds my heart, soul, and spirit.

Thank you for another great video! Really enjoy your content. Had one comment and one update. The comment first, thank you for addressing MH and I 100% agree with other comments on here. I've suffered from severe depression since my teens and riding is one of the best things I can do for it. Getting and just concentrating on riding is great therapy. Second, I wrote you a few videos back about adjusting my riding style due to injury. Your advice was great and I watched some vids you've mentioned and the last few sessions I've just been concentrating on just moving one cheek off the seet and making sure my inside arm is bent. Getting thru corners faster and more comfortably now. Wanted to give you an update and a sincere thank you! Take care.

Thanks for another great video. Never used my rear brake ever. But since you've been talking about it I started. And it has made a big difference. Now use it all the time 😄 Still getting used to bending my inside arm when cornering but I do it none the less and it also make such a difference. All things I wish I knew before. The arm bend has certainly made cornering much less schetchy especially for a guy like me who already doesn't have much confidence cornering.

On adjustability of bikes: Anything can become a tailored suit; either with a credit card or with tools and knowledge. A stock bike is off the rack. Clothing designers can make a jacket with sleeves that can lengthen, but it's going to have a certain look and it's going to be bulkier and it'll have more points of failure.

Coming to motorcycling from a cycling background, and also being of taller stature, it frustrates me that motorbikes don't come in different sizes. While I appreciate the answer about testing etc with modern design it certainly looks relatively straightforward to offer bikes with a different rear subframe bolted on. So the current size could be 'medium', -10cm for a small and +10cm for a large. It would make all the difference for comfort around the knees and ankles and could be a relatively straightforward swap aftermarket when you wanted to sell your bike.

  • @MadChalet
    @MadChalet 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I appreciate your commentary, Neevesy, and your friendly shoutouts to other commentators. Adjustable riding position is a can of worms, but do you remember the BMW R1150RS, with it's adjustable grips? (I believe seat height .... pegs?) You could move them forward/backward and change the angle, I believe (I've only briefly ridden a friend's back in the day.). I suggest that cost and appearance play a part in deciding to incorporate adjustability. The bars on the RS don't look slick - functional yes, slick-looking no - maybe cost more to produce ... they may also require some more room in the 'cockpit.'

Regarding bike choice.. I agree totally with your answer is you evolve with time. One of the best bikes I've had was a 2005 hayabusa. Loved it, toured Europe.. Camping etc etc.. But after 10 years the progress of age caught up with me.. I just progressively got more uncomfortable on it.. To the point my mileage on the bike got less and less.. I then had to admit defeat.. I then brought the 2015 Tracer 850 with a tear in my eye as I loved the busa.. Fortunately the Tracer was a elevation.. Completely different bike of course but back to riding all day.. Enjoying my riding again..

Damn good topic. Seat height, Handlebars positioning, Hand Levers settings, Foot Levers settings, Foot-peg positioning: high and fore and aft positions.
All should be adjustable as we're not all built the same.

Thanks a ton Neevesy for answering all these interesting questions, it's becoming a real encyclopaedia of all things two wheels 😁
Track bike question: I own a 2014 899 Panigale and use it only for track riding. If you had the choice and to maximise track riding enjoyment, would you rather spend money to upgrade this current bike (starting with suspension for example) or simply get a newer Panigale V2?
This question of course can be replicated for any older bike that has a newer counterpart.
    Thanks!!

Another great vid.Well, done for mentioning men’s metal health.
With regards to EICMA, I’ve just come back. Been many times and this year’s was the biggest I’ve ever seen, spread over EIGHT halls.
Basically the Chinese are taking over.So much kit especially electric bikes/scooters.
I was interested in seeing the new Suzuki GSX1000GX , as I recently bought a Tracer 9GT+.
But, for me, it was a disappointment.Smaller than expected and the fit and finish was not as nice as my GT+.
Bike of the show BY FAR, was the XSR900GP.Just stunning ! So tempted to get one , knowing how stunning the motor is but the garage is full.
My wife who rides LOVED the GSX-S8R,so it’s comical to read all the Facebook experts slag it off as being gutless and wheezy.Go ride one-the new 800 motor is fabulous ,despite on paper being weaker than the new Honda 750 motor in the Hornet and Transalp.Mid-range is key. Sorry about the long post. Keep up the good work ! 👍🏻

Some brand new bikes such as adventure, tourers, sports and hyper naked's have seemed to reach prices in which only the lucky few can afford unless you're financing on the 'never never' contracts. Have bikes really evolved that much to demand the premium that bike manufacturers charge, is it justified or is the sensible money on buying something that's used and well maintained? It's all relative but I was wondering what your thoughts are. Keep up the great work 👍

Hi Michael. What do you think of the 90's Honda CB500s? Me and my friends are all ditching our modern 1000cc bikes for cheap CB500s for our summer tour of Europe next year and I think its going to be such a laugh. Everyone who rides one comments on how surprisingly fun they are and fall in love. More importantly, are there any other bikes that are 'hidden gems' in the same respect that you can think of that we may not know about? Cheers!

I find it interesting Neevsey still says the Speed 1200 RR is uncomfortable but not one review agrees with this and most state it's between a full sports position to a upright position. Also I remember when Neevsey reviewed the Speed Triple RS and stated how radical the bike was and it would be interesting if triumph threw a fairing and clip ons on to see how the bike would be?

Thanks for the response Neevesy, great insight as always. I take your point how increased preload and compression damping can adversely affect steering geometry riding at a slower pace in the wet. But it's definitely me, not the bike! It's my bad for not explaining better, but I can resolve that sketchy bike feel by actively managing it, loosening up my arms, having a word with myself. Not instinctive riding, but ok with that as a weekend warrior!🤘 Keep the videos coming👍

Speaking of riding for therapy, I bought a bike that had a Quad Lock mount on the bars. First thing I did was take it off and throw it in the bin. I don't know if this has been tried or if it's rubbish, but imagine if you had something similar to crash bungs mounted either side to the frame about 4 inches above your toes. Now in a highside situation you squeeze the frame and your feet hang on to the bungs and that stops you from being flicked off. Chances are you'd not save every moonshot but maybe 3 in 10, which would lead to unglamorous flying "W" but save broken bikes.

Hi Neevesy! You talked about riding on track a couple years ago in a video. You've said, being at high RPM far from peak torque in the corner is the way to go, and it absolutly is. The only thing, im worried about is, what is the situation with high power V2 bikes? Most of the Ducatis has less than 3000 rpm between max torque and the redline, and the rev max out at 10 or 11k. They also have a steeper torque courve most of the time. I’ve thought, what if i go mid rpm and buid up the power by nearly max throttle? Great videos! Thanks for all tips over the years!

Regarding adjustability At a minimum the factory should publish the size of the rider(s) the bike is optimized for. This should include the height , weight of the rider. Ideally hey should make it more adjustable for ergonomics and provide suggested settings for different height weight riders. This may reduce number of potential buyers but people who don't find the bike comfortable don't keep the bike long term anyway.

There will be weight transfer to the front when you brake with the rear, but it pulls the back of the bike down, too, so it brakes ‘flatter’ and helps hook into the turn. It’s good, eh? 👍

hey, Neeves! After watching some of those videos of yours, one question sprung to mind: What is it with the crossover fad? Why the taller suspension with superbike wheels instead of the true sports tourer route (Ninja 1000SX, KTM SDGT, Suzuki GSXS1000GT, BMW R1250RS, etc)? I've seen the Multistrada PP can get wobbly at high speeds (44T's video at Silverstone showed it), so what gives? Do you recon the GSXS 1000GX will be any less capable than the GSXS 1000GT? Thanks in advance. Wish you all the best.

I'm really not sure what bike I want next and currently I'm thinking that it could be an Aprilia RS660, a KTM 890 Adventure, and XSR 900GP, R1300GS or M1000XR! And there are lots of other options in between. I think the problem is that I want one bike that does it all.... be as light and flickable as the RS, but go off-road like the KTM, look awesome like the XSR, have the grunt of the GS but be as fast as the XR.
