Thank you, Raymong Prong, for this beautiful post, I'm not an art buff and I came to know of Vermeer by reading The Girl With the Pearl Earing. His work is so beautiful. I enjoyed the music also.
Or web sites showing the paintings in their actual locations in museums all over the world, so we can get a sense of scale, also i would like to see each of the master work in its frame.
@youlousycreatures Yes, it seems like it was not done by him.but maybe from his earlier style? I am not sure about that. By the way, I like the paintings of Vermeer since I first looked at it in books since I was a kid. The first one that I liked was 'The Girl In a Red Hat" and the "MIlkmaid"
@VIRIATO1942 Tracy Chevalier's book on Vermeer's household and Giest was wonderful and if you have'nt seen the movie version it's worth the time and money. I especially like the look of the film--shot as if by Vermeer himself. Does'nt Dutch middle class life of that age look warm, comfortable, and appealing? No wonder the Dutch had such difficulty getting colonist for the new world. Who would leave this for the uncertainty of a frontier existence?
Not to my knowledge. Although many people are not aware of his earliest paintings. There are a few painitings that I did not include that have been disputed as to whether they were in fact painted by him.
Just beautifull. I finished reading a book ( The Girl With The Pearl Earing *) a ficcionalized romance story of his life and the alleged enfatuation between the great painter and his teenage servant Geist , the model. Very intersting book. * there is a movie (2003) made on the subject. which I have not seen.
Can anyone explain to me why in most of his paintings, the light usually seems to strike from the left and quite often from a window? Did he use camera obscura? Because that would explain a lot.. still not sure
@youlousycreatures Not a lot. Only one, the painting shown before "The Girl with a red hat" and after "The girl with a pearl earring" is not fully accepted as Vermeer's work. The rest is ok.

@braak I agree that the music is from the wrong time - Bach was born 10 years after Vermeer died. Vermeer, if he heard any music, would've heard late Renaissance and Early Baroque; Lully, Monteverdi, Sweelinck, Charpentier, ua. Respectfully, I disagree that Bach's music is "all about religion and such." He wrote tons and tons of non-secular music. I think like you - if you're going to put together a slide-show on an artist, get the right music. Don't put Mahler and Chopin together.
Carte geografiche e luce. Che meraviglia!
Video perfecto.Vermer maestro del color y la música de fondo. Muchas gracias por compartirlo.
Exquisite use of light.....How natural were his subjects as his paintings allow us to see back to 17th century middle class Delft..

So many of these paints seem to be done at his home studio, there why the window on the left side.
Brandenburg concerto No. 5
@raffaellatrr As far as have been able to be determined, as Vermeer only signed and dated three of his works.
Just beautifull.

Is there a video (as far as you can know), where one can view these paintings hanging in his actual locations in museums around the world?
Me too. I like them all but I simply Girl with a Pearl Earring & The Milkmaid. Those models were the only beautiful girls in all of his painting. =)~

What a shame the music is so out of place. Bach is all about religion and such, Vermeer isn't, it's also from a different era in time.
