Visa Run from Bangkok, Thailand to Savannakhet, Laos 2018

  • When making a visa run from Thailand, I recommend going to Savannakhet, Laos. The town is small and quiet. The visa process is streamlined and/or expedited due to the low number of applicants. The option of going to Savannakhet is simply faster than going to other areas of Laos.
    The process takes 27 hours to complete. You must turn in all required documents to the Thai consulate by 11:00 am. You will pick up your passport the next day at 2:00 pm.
    You may apply for a tourist visa, non-b visa, non-o visa, or any other non-immigrant visa at this location in Savannakhet, Laos.
    These visa runs are a necessary factor regarding the cost of living in Thailand in 2018. You must budget for these expenses when coming to the kingdom of Thailand.

    You could also go by train from Bankok to Vientiane. Its a sleeper, more comfi. Then discover VanVien and Luang Prabang. U can still see the monk parades like 50 years ago in Thailand. Its more fun in Laos.

    I traveled thru Savannakhet in 2010. It was a nice place. Then I took a local bus to Pakse. That was a brutal trip. I found The Laos spoke better English than Thais. I found it was cheaper in Laos than Thailand.

    Only a $270 round trip flight from Bangkok to Savannakhet as opposed to a good 27 hours of bus riding for around $10/hour.
    Myself, I would have flown.

    Dang bro....you went all the way to Sav for a 60 day tourist visa???? you could have flown to KL for $70 round trip and stayed in a nice modern city. Most people only go to Laos for the 1 year non O visas (marriage and retirement) because no income verification and generally less hassle. Unless I am missing something

    So I was planning on going to Vientiane for my visa run but I guess just recently they made it that you have to make appointment. Well I’ve already bought my ticket to go and I cannot make appointment because it’s full for the whole month ! Do I have to make appointment to this place in Laos or do they accept walk ins here? Thank you

    Hey man - is it possible to do these visa runs over and over without much hassle? The only reason I ask is, I also love Thailand having travelled solo there twice and have some interests there. I am doing a tefl so I can teach abroad but I have no degree, hence why I was considering Cambodia. Do you have a degree? Spence.

    • @JeremyClodfelter
      @JeremyClodfelter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a Bachelor's degree and a TEFL. Immigration is tough in TH. I don't recommend trying visa runs unless they are required for a visa. Yes, you have to have a four-year degree to teach in TH.

    I'm very curious... why Savannakhet and not Vientiane? Also, why not just find the cheapest air ticket to any Asian capital with a Thai embassy and get the visa yourself?

      From nearly anywhere in central Thailand a visa run to Sav, Laos is the most covenient bang for your buck. Thai consulates in Laos are well known for no to minimal hassle tourist visas. 2 month tourist for about 5-6k baht + 1 month extension for 1900 at your local immigration is the best deal in S.E. Asia....at least in my opinion.

    • @mekongfarang
      @mekongfarang 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Consulate in Savannakhet has less people. ive been to Laos 6 times for Visa.. Vientiane has 1000+ people in a line every day at 8am. Savannakhet only 40 Maximum.

    • @celtosaxon
      @celtosaxon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you try another visa run, look at creative options - there are often cheap flights to Malaysia... or you could fly to Hat Yai at the southern border catch a train from there, or fly one way to Penang or KL and catch the train back (or visa versa depending which is cheaper). The 15 hour bus to Lao just sounds brutal.

    I'm a UK passport holder I've done 2 months extended another month at Thai immigration but that's now thats coming to a end. I'm in Thailand and would like to stay another month or two. I'm a bit confused if I want to stay another month for example.. Is it a matter of just crossing the border and getting stamped coming back.. Please any advice please getting desperate. Clocks ticking lol don't wanna go home yet.

    • @JeremyClodfelter
      @JeremyClodfelter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to make a visa run to a Thai embassy or consulate outside the country. My recommendation is Laos. Be sure to take enough cash with you for the Laos visa, plus extra in case their are any problems.

      @@JeremyClodfelter Thankyou for getting back to me.
      I'm staying in surin I hear it would be easier to go to Cambodia.. but I'm not sure if I can apply for a two month visa here or not?
      Has I understand it please correct me if I'm mistaken if I go to Cambodia I can enter back on the tourist visa exemption for 30days (UK passport) then can I apply for another 30 days at immigration if need be whilst still in Thailand?? Or do I definitely need to go to the Thai Embassy across the border. Hope I'm making sense this can be so confusing.

    • @JeremyClodfelter
      @JeremyClodfelter  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's my understanding that you can only get a 30 day tourist visa RENEWED in Cambodia for only 30 additional days. If you are on an exemption extension, you wont even be able to get a visa. My suggestion is to go to Laos. Its the solution with the fewest question marks.
