- Shawn Porter had the best seat in the house for Nate Diaz's scrap with Jorge Masvidal on Saturday, with the former boxing champ saying the Stockton star trained hard for the fight, as opposed to when he lost to Jake Paul a few months back!

Nate wanted this one. I don't think he wanted to give Jake the respect of trying too hard to win cause Jake hasn't really earned his stripes , that's why I think he clowned around a bit vs Jake. Close fight. Happy for old Nate Dogg to edge it out

Yet, when he got the belt against Nate in a very controversial stoppage……Jorge proclaimed “take it up with the commission if you don’t like it”
Shawn's idea that Masvidal does not know that the power in punching comes from the ground up and that he was throwing entirely from the arms seems off base. Jorge's punches looked crisp, sharp, and powerful - both in his shots he was ripping to the body and the head. Shawn says he wanted to see more power and crispness. I think he was misled as to their nature by Diaz's unusual ability to absorb punishment. In the training clip Masvidal did with Neon, the press conference prankster, he tells the kid that the power and crispness in punches comes from the lower body - from hips, legs, and feet.- and he cannot just throw from the arms if he expects to punch with power. As for Shawn's criticism of Jorge striking a defensive posture, Diaz with his excellent cardio and quantity of punches always tries to walk his opponents down. He never did it better than in this fight, a tribute to the serious nature of his training for this fight after failing to train in like manner for the bout with Paul. In instruction of Neon tMasvidal old him he needed to move his head side to side and bob, weave, and feint to defend himself. Shawn is right. Masvidal did not do.that in this fight and confined himself to blocking Diaz's punches with his gloves from a stationary defensive posture. He appeared to do that because there was no power in Diaz's pitty pat punches and no need to bob and weave with his head and upper body.. Better just to confine himself to blocking Diaz's powerless punches with his gloves to the sides of his head - punches which were doing no damage and no threat to taking Jorge out. Nate can absorb punishment, but he was clearly rocked by Masvidal's power a number of times and his face showed it afterward. By contrast Masvidal showed no facial damage from Diaz's pitty pat punching. Jorge clearly deemed them no threat, but they came in such quantity they were not worth the energy to bob and weave with his head and upper body to avoid. Holding his gloves to both sides of his face was enough to ward them off as they were not hurting him. It's hard to see how Nate can do any damage to Jake Paul in the rematch he wants if he has not the power to rock Jake. Maybe he just wants the 15 million dollar payday Jake promised him for a rematch. He'll have to outpoint Jake as he lacks the power to stop the fight by a TKO or a KO. In a rematch with Masvidal only in a neutral setting where California judges cannot badly mis-score what was a very closely contested fight..

Masvidal was the One that had good footwork and power shots being thrown from the hips but He WAS TOO SCARED TO MIX it up enough to maybe hurt Nate more but He disappointed Me in NOT BEING AGGRESSIVE to make a BETTER FIGHT .....GOOD FIGHT FOR NATE IM HAPPY HE WON ...ID like to see Nate throw from his legs and use power more but GOOD FIGHT ...
Masvidal has a great boxing trainer. It was his first fight, not gonna develope real boxing technique that quick.

@@nna23422 Maybe go watch it few more times. Diaz got out landed and all the power shots that stopped the action were on his face lol. The only thing he did well was he never stopped pressuing but he LOST.

@@nna23422 I been watching boxing since the 80's kiddo and that's NOT how boxing fights are scored. You can walk foward the whole fight if your getting caught with power shots the whole fight and landing less punches, normally you would LOSE. What pro's? Most of the pro's are saying either the fight was close or Masvidal won. Even before the scorecards were read the commentators had Masvidal winning. Just say you're a DIaz fan it's okay. The 8-2 scorecards are a joke. Go watch the fight 10 mores times and report back. lol
