The characters aren't "devolving". The show and its characters were great for the first 7 seasons, then it started to devolve in seasons 8 and 9, and by season 10 the show was garbage, and nothing has changed since then.

The Simpsons was a phenomenally good show for the first 7 seasons. Seasons 8 and 9 were mixed, and then by season 10 (1998) the show was complete trash where it has remained ever since. For me they "jumped the shark" when they changed it from a realistic character-based sitcom to a wacky, surreal cartoon.

Yeah... That did not end well for the show.
I think it would be nice to see the Simpsons age up. That should give the writers more room to flex their creative muscle to write deep and hearty narratives.
I don't care what people say The Simpsons are still great as when they first started and I'm sick and tired of people saying The Simpson's golden years ended in Season 10 because obviously the people who said that were Family Guy Fans. Also The Simpsons are still hilarious and people who say there not funny anymore is not a fan at all because a true fan sticks by no matter what
2:34 Homer chokes lol.
Simpsons golden age: Everything up to Marge flashing her magambos. And one season from 20-30 or something. Seasons post 30 are somewhat good too. But remember Marge flashing her magambos is the end of classic era
Even the continuity is kinda jacked up. It like they never grow up. Well at least they and Ash share something in common
Homer: D’oh!
Bowser: D’oh!
As much as I still love the Simpsons to this day, I’m just not a fan of it being on Disney+. I know it’s not as outlandish as other adult animated shows like family guy and bobs burgers, but the fact that they had to get rid of one episode in season 3 due to controversy, and there’s frame rate problems too getting rid of visual gags is just absurd! I know they’re gonna fix the latter part but I still prefer to still have the DVDs of the first 20 seasons, which I don’t think I’ll get rid of anytime soon...
