My family in Texas has pecan farms. My Grandfather was what you would call a “gentleman farmer” but some of his family caught the “bug” and now are actual farmers. My grandmother use to climb the trees and jump up and down to shake the pecans down! She did that until her late 70’s when she fell out of the tree and broke her hip. My grandfather had to take her to the emergency room and the Dr told him in no certain terms that she would no longer be climbing trees!

I remember we had some pecan trees on my grandparents' farm and he had a treeshaker for his tractor. We went out one day to get some pecans so all the female relatives and friends could bake their pecan pies. We pulled up to a pretty big tree, looped the strap around it and started shaking. We wound up with around twenty pounds of nuts, four squirrels and an angry raccoon! Lots of fun on the old farm!

This is AWESOME!!! CONGRATS on this partnership because it makes perfect sense! Without knowing the finer details of your arrangements, we just know you have the upcoming warehouse, you're not far from each other, you know how to pack and ship, you have a huge viewership, and you, like so many of the rest of us, want to know where food comes from and want to consume quality ingredients. Then there's the personal mission: helping local farmers, especially those who don't want to just mass produce, but who really spend the time, develop the skillset and expertise, and wind up producing, in this case, a quality pecan...you all have my full support! And, I'm not just saying that. I REALLY am sick of buying corporate, expensive tin cans of old, rancid nuts at the grocery store, so I am more than excited and ready to support your partnership. ❤ MADE IN THE USA 🇺🇸 SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FARMERS 🇺🇸 FARM TO TABLE ❤

I can attest to the home grown pecans being best. My parents farm had a pecan grove and we grew ours. When I grew up and moved away I bought store pecans and thought something was wrong with them because the taste was bitter. It was like when pecans are cracked and left to sit for a long while before picking them out. We sat and picked out the nuts right after cracking them or if we got the commercially cracked they went into the freezer until we picked them out. Huge difference. Different varieties of pecans taste different too.

They have a pretty cool set up, and you can even bring your own pecans to have them shelled in their "fancy" machine. I wonder if that is where Mr. Carl was talking about. I used to make wedding cakes. I used buttercream icing between the layers. I added finely chopped pecans, minced maraschino cherries and drained, crushed pineapple. The fruit helped keep the cake moist and the pecans kept it from getting soggy. Everyone liked the combination in the wedding cakes. The cakes usually had a hint of almond in them. It was so subtle people couldn't figure out why my cakes tasted so good. I had to limit my orders so they didn't take over my life.

I really enjoyed this video , I never seen pecans harvested. Hope you can strike a deal with him and help his and your family along with the community, I like how you believe in helping the small guys not just the retail giants.

Pecan pie is my favorite. So excited to see your family supporting a local farm business. Congratulations. God’s blessings for a successful partnership. I was wondering who cleans the nuts off of the protective awning over the tractor cab

Every year I have to make candied pecans for my sweet potato casserole and if I can get them already made, score! Kudos to you for supporting a farmer, my dad was a strawberry farmer in Watsonville, California

There is a lake here in Central Texas named Lake Buchanan. We all pronounce it like this man does - Buck-anan. And native Texans agree with saying “puh cahn”!
    Those pecans look delicious!!

Great video. Our five trees, planted by my FIL 45+ years ago, have kept us in pecans for years. We have kept the annual gathering going now that we live here and don’t plan to stop. Cheers from Sallisaw, OK.

Every Thanksgiving & Christmas my mom would put out a nut bowl with mixed whole nuts and Dad and I would crack the pecans & walnuts. There were also almonds, hazel nuts & brazil nuts too. I sure do miss those days. Both Mom & Dad are gone now and this just brought back some nice warm memories. Best of luck with you new product.

in Australia, we have moved on from shaking to the ground then coming back with either a vacuum collector or a sweep collector. we now use a shaker that has what is like an upside-down umbrella that surrounds the base of the tree prior to shaking, this is then fed into a hopper.
good luck in this new venture with Carl and his family.

I used to live on a 25-acre Pecan Orchard. Loved the harvest. It was crazy when they shook those trees. Best Pecan pie, Pecan Icecream, and so many other food items around.

Daniel and DeJay I hope that the packaging from Arms Family also has acknowledgement of Buccanon Farm on it. I really enjoyed listening to him and his wife and seeing his beautiful land.
I am disabled and living on a limited income. I've always wanted to buy a t-shirt or hat from ya'll but there's too much month at the end of my money so I haven't. I will squeeze enough to be able to buy at least one bag.
    Let's save that farm. ❤
Daniel, you do realize that now you HAVE TO sell Buccanon Farm shirts, don't you? 😮😂
I suggest the shape of a pecan tree, chest high and lower, centered with the Farm name below. ❤

Brings back lots of memories from my childhood growing up harvesting almonds using rakes and blowers and knockers and on the young trees having to knock them by hand with rubber mallets. That was the days before they had shakers that grabbed the trunk at the tree and shake it. Good memories!
