Thank you for taking the time to watch the film. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to share my story. The feedback is overwhelmingly positive and many of the comments have brought me to tears. A HUGE thank you to REI for using business as a way to make the world a better place by sharing honest, real stories that bring us together over a shared love of the outdoors. And big thanks to Duct Tape Then Beer for editing and directing the film, and treating this emotional, raw story with emotional sensitivity. And to Adam Clark for doing most of the videography over the course of two winters.
Hey Caroline! I’ve been a fan of yours for years. I’ve looked up to you for years too. I’ve always wanted to do what you do and I’ve always hoped that maybe one day I’d get to ski/snowboard (I’m a boarder) with you. Don’t listen to all the negative people, just keep skiing on👌 Maybe I’ll catch you on the mountain in Colorado or Utah someday soon
Loved the film, loved the story. You rock, Caroline, and you deserve to reach your goals, especially because you are doing what you love and have fun doing it! Greetings from Spain!
I think this is the most honest ski/mountaineering film I've ever seen. I am nowhere near this level, but I've done my share of hiking and skiing, and I have never been able to relate to an outdoors film the way I could to this one. The way you include those moments of fear, of making little single turns down half of the line, of making little noises to yourself as you concentrate on what you're doing. The way you talk about having to remind yourself that its worth it, and the way McLean mentions that in some cases it really isn't much fun at all until you look back on it afterwords.. These are all things that most films cut out, but which are at least in my experience, a big part of adventures. Thanks for the inspiration, keep up the great work, and best of luck with your next endeavors (to everyone involved with the film, not just Caroline)!
"Even if they say I don't belong, I'm just going to keep doing my thing. I don't need their acceptance or approval." Well spoken Caroline! Follow your highest sense of right and don't let anyone's negativity pull you down. I can't wait to show this film to my daughter, in hopes that it will further inspire her to do great things in her life! You are an inspiration to us all!
I'm appalled by that phone message! Ive dealt with severe injuries the last 18 years. A friend got me to try to ski again 4 years ago. Within a year ive become and CSIA instructor, I'm working to get my CADS to assist the disabled, starting a ski program for indigenous youth in my area. I just got my first back country set up and am heading to Whistler to take the intro to back country and AST-1 course. Skiing is saving my live and no one should ever make nasty comments to discourage anyone regardless if they are wealthy, disabled, sponsored, a different culture and so on. I see your love for the sport and encourage you to keep loving what you do. May your brother RIP
Your story is so inspirational! I'm 37 years old and have been rock climbing for 17 months, now. My goal is to become a true alpinist, which requires, as you know, a determination and a commitment beyond words. I have severe and chronic PTSD from my military service, and climbing is the only thing I've found that quiets the demons. That's why I want to take climbing to its ultimate levels and experience every bit of it and every aspect of it that I can!!! One thing I've learned is that you have to be true to yourself because, in the end, you're the only one looking out for your best interests and your happiness. You've done that, and I commend you for it! Let these nasty people who criticize you and curse you have their misery to themselves!!! Don't let them steal your fire, for it is pure fire - a very special gift!!!
Hi Chris, thank you for watching the film and for your kind words. The mountains provide a sort of moving meditation. It is so powerfully healing. Keep going on your journey! I’m rooting for you.
Profoundly inspirational. Thank you Caroline and your team. I am 69 and with limited time, finally ready to pursue my passion without concern about its completion, but solely for the fruits of the journey. You and others have helped so much to overcome the self-inflicted hesitations.
Lol yeah, how little do you have to have going on in your life to go out of your way to harass someone who has nothing to do with you, and is just living their own life.
AWESOME! Just remember those negative comments have nothing to do with you, instead they mirror the people saying them, they are trying to pass on their own garbage! keep being awesome!!
Great movie. My nine year old daughter and I watched this together. We had a great, important conversation after watching. This story had sad moments, fun moments, and rewarding moments. That's real life. Caroline is someone that (I hope) my daughter can really look up to. Thank you for this moment.
Man, I can`t even begin to explain how much i relate to the things you say. Most great skiers are not equally great at putting their feelings into words, but you are. It's a powerful combination. Never let any of these people get to you. You belong in the mountains as much as anyone.
Thank you thank you thank you for making this movie. Caroline, whenever I am feeling beat down or scared, your story will remind me to keep doing my thing. Your hard work and perseverance in the mountains inspires!
You are truly an inspiration!! I don't know why anyone would say derogatory things to you other than just being hateful. I don't know much about skiing but I know you are a remarkable young lady and are beautiful. Keep doing what you are doing and persevere.
Caroline ....you deserved nothing but respect, admiration and what an INSPIRATION!!!!!! Almost crying a invite all my family to watch this amazing footage and your story.....years went by after Martin's accident and still couldn't hole my tears to see your Dad at minute 8:13 loving him.........God bless you and your family, please receive our Love from Maui, Hawaii. This video has changed my life!!!!!!!!!
I've never heard of Caroline Gleich before, but after seeing this, I am totally blown away by her! All the negativity surrounding her is so lame and irrelevant because, my God, she lives in a world so far above and beyond all of the naysayers - beyond ALL of us really - that I for one am completely humbled by what I just saw. To do what she did, to dream that big, I am in awe. Also, thank you REI for putting out ski films worth watching again. Monumental was awesome.
Hey Caroline! I’ve been a fan of yours for years. I’ve looked up to you for years too. I’ve always wanted to do what you do and I’ve always hoped that maybe one day I’d get to ski/snowboard (I’m a boarder) with you. Caroline ....a million thanks for sharing your very inspirational story with us. You are an incredible, determined, committed person and one great skier. Keep on keepin' on! Stay tough and undaunted. Ignore the naysayers. It's what they do. They can't help themselves. No one of substance listens to them. Hope you share lots more adventures with us. Be safe. We love you!
WOW - is all I can say. Such an inspiration and touching story. Hats off to Caroline for conquering and LIVING.... So many people just let time pass by and don't follow their dreams. Caroline persevered with incredibly difficult obstacles. Well done......
There will always be people who say you shouldn't do something, you don't belong, you are a fraud, you aren't capable etc etc etc. Every dream that anyone has will, at some point, have those detractors who don't know you, your struggle or your fire. A Twitter friend shared this story with me because the message matches what I practice and preach to people. That being live your life fully for you. I was told I wouldn't amount to anything more than a few times in my life now I am a 3 time published author, a retired military veteran, a personal growth workshop provider and motivational speaker. If someone stumbles across this message remember you dreams, your life and your strength. Def Follow Through! Great story here. #LETME.
The moments where you're talking yourself up to get through a particularly difficult section are awesome. I never thought people so accomplished did the same thing. I do that on almost every climb, and the particularly sketchy spots. The reality is great...thank you...
The first thing I thought when I heard the intro voicemail was, "how badly does this man hate his life?" A person's hatred is a projection of how they view themselves and nothing more. You're doing amazing things girl!
I honestly hope the caller has seen this video. So what if her folks had money, ain't her fault. Thanks to social media and this girls ability we get a view into a world some of us don't get. Good on her for sharing.
Fantastic film. Brought me to tears. Caroline, I first came upon you in the Alta promo you did. My teenage girls enjoy that video as well. Keep up the good work and don't worry about a thing.
SO I GUESS IT IS OFFICIAL!. CAROLINE GLEICH DOES BELONG HERE! AT THE TOP! Nobody can doubt Caroline now. She did it! Thank you for showing us all what tenacity and perseverance mean. You are both brave and wild!! :)
I really loved this video, Caroline. Don't let those people get to you, ever. Whatever it is that's driving them to attack you (jealousy, sexism, stupidity) it's about them, not you. I'm going to remember your story when I'm facing challenges in my life. I wish I skied half as well as you!
Brilliant! Congratulations on getting through the Chuting Gallery, but (more importanly) I want to thank you for your positive attitude, and your commitment to environmental issues...you are a great role model to men and women alike. I have really enjoyed following your IG for the past couple of years...keep up the good work, Caroline!
To both you at REI and Caroline, thanks for sharing the story! Very good to know there are people out there pursuing dreams and continuing to inspire others to do the same! All the best from NW Montana!
Such a beautiful documentary!!!! It is inspiring to see another young woman not living the cookie cutter life and following their passion. I myself dont fly down mountains but race motorcycle, so in many ways relate to devoting a life to adventure. I appreciate the honesty, openness, and pureness of this video. I look forward to more videos from REI and instagram feeds from Caroline!
wow. I was not expecting this. she has such an elegant way to put into words how it feels to do these activities. while these goals we set for ourselves might seem meaningless in the conventional american lifestyle they are what truly makes our souls sing. this film gave me confidence in my everday pursuits and to follow my heart. amazing film
With gods grace, I hope, at 62 years of age, finish the JMT this year, Mammoth Mt to Mt Whitney summit. The last lines in the film lets me hear the words that are in my head. Don't give up, you can do this, finish what you started. Thank you for your courage and tenacity. I will hope to hear your words ...as it gets hard, as it gets painful, keep going, just keep going.
Amazing film. Caroline, thank you, and to your partners as well, for inspiring people to get out and do their thing. I don't ever want to do this kind of thing but it makes me want to go touring. I bet all the gnarly stuff you do has the same effect on lots of people. To want to be in the mountains, or sea, or forests etc. and just enjoy and care for it

Great film! I am taking on a big new challenge in response to the closing of it - thanks Caroline! ps I laughed when you talked about getting out at the bottom; me too - as hard as some of the best lines I've taken in the high mountains have been, getting out of the trees, gulches, and ravines at the bottom have sometimes been just as difficult!
Wow that was awesome. So inspirational. I love the mountains. Been following you on Instagram for years. I like your adventuresome and warrior spirit. Keep living your dream.

You are awesome :) Thanks for sharing this :) Really inspirational, i enjoyed every minute :) It takes courage to show your vulnerable side to the world like this.
I read quite recently, of a German woman whose life was spent ' interviewing' dying people. Respect is due to her more-so, for spending her ongoing life, with their final breaths. I digress, they all had a VERY similar thing to say....." I wish I'd have spent less time working, more time living". To regret not living dreams, must be sensationally bad when the time comes. I'm not even sure we can grasp the feeling, an assumption is so very far from the reality I feel. Cliché indeed it may be, but to live life as if no tomorrow, that is a life path not to be deemed selfish & inappropriate. Caroline, you're to be congratulated on your choices. Those aforementioned unfortunate last thoughts, will not be yours. Keep going, keep enjoying. May it always be so. You will inspire more people than you could ever imagine, you'll know of some via technology obviously. There will be many more however, that will nod ( internally), in your direction. When dark days surface, just take some hugs from that.
Thank you for taking the time to watch the film. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to share my story. The feedback is overwhelmingly positive and many of the comments have brought me to tears. Loved the film, loved the story. You rock, Caroline, and you deserve to reach your goals, especially because you are doing what you love and have fun doing it! Greetings from Spain!
Stay tough, girl ❤
Caroline, I'm sure Martin and Liz were both smiling down on you when you accomplished your goal! Bravo! RESPECT!

I love the Glick family! Great film, likewise brought me to tears. Keep skiing, keep living an ecological life, and keep loving.

No he sounds like he’s just sick of her main stream grab and her entitlement for being a female skier who gets first tracks basically for being cute.

This is awesome. Keep it up. I wish I could do 10% of what you do.
When and IF these haters have dropped ALL the lines you have dropped, then and ONLY then do they have anything to say to you, at all.
You're such an inspiration.
