This is by far my favorite song of Ed's. The words, the setting, the harmonies, the vocals and the emotion. Gets me every time. It is about a friend and he performed it at his funeral. Talk about emotional.

What I love about Ed is the simplicity if his songwriting style. He writes in simple words, yet transmits exactly the feeling that he is having and manage to transport you to the experience that he is living. "Supermarket Flowers" is another example of this, he just takes you with his mom to clear out his grandma's hospital room after she passed away, so simple, so mundane tasks, yet is impossible not to cry...
Ed Sheeran is the greatest artist of this generation. I’ve said it and I’m going to say it over and over. You need to react to ALL of his albums AND live reactions!!!!!!
Every single concert and live performance (before this album of course) are just him and a loop pedal. I saw him at the rose bowl and it was literally just him on the stage for the whole night. Incredible
Ed wrote this about his mate & Aussie music industry legend Michael Gudinski. He performed this at the live state memorial service in Melbourne & wrote in during quarantine when he flew to Australia for the service.
He got Kylie Minogue & Jimmy Barnes(2 HUGE Aussie musicians) who were friends of Michael as well to do some some backing vocals in the studio version.

I love watching you react to Ed, and I can't for = to come out so I can see all your reactions to his albums. This being said, I get the impression that you aren't aware of Ed as a songwriter. You should really check it out. He's written songs for Bryan Adams, Robbie Williams, Westlife, Justin Bieber, BTS, Alicia Keyes, Andrea Bocelli, One Direction, Major Lazer and SO MANY MORE!
Yes, Ed writes his own songs. He does write with others often, especially Johnny McDaid of Snow Patrol. Among many others, they wrote Photograph, Bloodstream, Shape of You, Galway Girl, Bad Habits, and Shivers together.

I can't listen to this song without crying.
There’s so many things in so many ways. First let’s remember that Ed Sheeran wrote the song and Sang it at his very close friends funeral. So when this seems to allow us to really focus on the vocals I believe that’s the way it was written.Of course we can see Ed’s brilliance in his writing and playing and singing as usual but what we really get here is the true essence of Ed Sheeran which goes beyond all the technical things and bleeds through the screen with his emotion and how he gives all of himself and share so selflessly. This allows all of us to relate to him and to his music. When he. Says that his kids will know who u are through me! I don’t know who can listen to this or watch and perform this and not be moved to tears. I absolutely love it and needed it right now. Miss you mom. Thanks Steven. ❤️❤️✌️✌️
This song and Supermarket Flowers are so hard to listen to when you are down because they bring up all those sad moments. This video was so well done.
I love this reaction. I have been a fan of ed for about five years, I spent my adolescence accompanied by his music and I really get excited when someone realizes that he is not only the perfect ballad or a catchy beat like shape of you. Ed is simple in his way of putting on a show compared to other artists but the versatility of his beats and lyrics is truly inspiring. I am from Argentina, a country in Latin America and without understanding English very well, he managed to move me and make my skin crawl. I cried my eyes out to this song, I rarely cry listening to music but Ed always succeeds ❤️ he performed this live at Michael Gudinski's funeral (the song is about him) and when Ed started crying while performing I lost it 🥺

A friend sent me this a few months ago when I lost my Mom. It will always hit me in my heart. So incredibly beautiful and his voice is unparalleled.
I recently lost my dad due to COVID, so this song really hit home for me. I would love to visit him, be able to talk to him again, to tell him everything he’s missed. Still at some times I can’t understand that he’s not here anymore. I just wish I could hug him at least once more. But as Ed ends the song, everyone I love will know who he was, I will live like he taught me and remember that we will meet again one day.

This is the best song I think Ed has created in terms of emotion and tempo and like you said the way he delivers those high pitch notes. This hits for so many people who have you know lost something new close that they live and it hurts as unfortunately I know what it feels like after losing my grandma back in 2017 and this brings back many memories and I just want to see her again but I can't and so the way he delivers this is so outstanding. He created this song after the passing of his Mentor, Father-Figure & Best Friend Michael Gudinski ( I may have spelt the last name wrong ) back in March. He is an Australian Legend and as a tribute Ed created this masterpiece to share to the world and we all have to thank him because now we can all come together and talk about our losses which can take away enough hurt to hopefully move on knowing that everything will be okay. For some they can't move on for quite some time.

This song is about his producer, the man that gave him the chance to share his talent to the world. They became close over the years and he passed during lock down.
