    Although it was very difficult to discuss my financial student loan debt, I think it’s important that people get realistic about what many millennials experience. It’s important to evaluate furthering your education and really think about what’s best for you, and your future. Thank you for watching 🙂

Powerful inspiration on how you can continue to LIVE a joyful life regardless of debt. We can always decide to do things differently. I appreciate this video, very encouraging. Thats the problem with college and life, we are so young when we make these decisions and usually don't know what career we want or what a career entails day to day and if that is compatible with ourselves AND we also don't know ourselves yet either! Its really hard because some people do know and love what they do but a LOT of others don't and want to change careers but as Courtney said that can be an extremely difficult decision to make.

    It's crazy that she has so much debt but so many nice things and (presumably) a lot of life experiences (even prior to being a flight attendant). I have a lot of money saved up (zero debt), I only spend about 1/3 of what I make each year, but I look at all of the things I own and how embarrassed I am by everything, how I have basically zero life experiences and never go anywhere... I don't know how to live like her and buy things, it's so scary to think about not having the money if I spend it... but it looks like life would actually be enjoyable versus what I experience right now.
    What I'm trying to say is, I'm both jealous and motivated by this video. I didn't know you could be in debt and still do things. I mean, even look at her groceries - everything was so much better than what I get. It's eye-opening to me that you can live a life seemingly unaffected by the debt. Like truly, despite her and I being exact opposites in terms of net-worth, she's actually living and I'm scared to spend.

    I work a second job because the extra money comes in handy and these days it’s a insurance policy. These days you better have a second job because these days a job isn’t guaranteed you anymore. All the college degrees in the world ain’t a guarantee to a good job, or long term employment. A second job is a cushion. So if you lose a job you still have some income, and can still pay some bills. You can hold it down till something better paying or with more hours comes along. It’s tiring but, it’s oddly satisfying. My only real complaint is you really need to be on point time wise. You have to have strong time management skills and you must be super organized. I literally have to come home, pull my bags apart, and repack and shower, snack and it’s off to bed. Don’t think I’d trade it for the world.

    It's interesting when he says that work is easier now because the kinds of work that used to be around aren't anymore and you need education to get a job... That sounds to me like things that would make it harder, but maybe it's the edit because of course there are new options of types of jobs that didn't used to exist too.

    • @wing3789
      @wing3789 3 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    • @ArtichokeHunter
      @ArtichokeHunter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@wing3789 that makes sense but what actually made it into this vid was just that the manual labor jobs are gone, which doesn't make it easier... it's the additional options that exist, which didn't get mentioned at all in this. They just said you need more education and the factories are gone.

    Watching this, I have a weird feeling in my stomach. There are almost no student fees for Collage education in Germany (it's funded by taxes). I think I paid around 200€ per Semester, which includes a discount on student housing and food and the public transport ticket. It feels wrong that you have to take up so much personal debt for education.
    Edit: we don't devide into community collage and private Collage, apart from a few exceptions. Not everybody goes to university, I think about half of young peope take up an apprenticeship instead. You still have running costs like housing and food and things, so a lot of students work parallel to their studies.

    Americans go to chiropractors because they can't afford to go to doctors. People with medical/service calling become chiropractors because they can't afford medical school... and get crushed by student debt anyway.
    This beautiful lady is balancing never-ending debt and the perks of her two jobs, like... healthcare, which she couldn't afford without them.

Since you're already taking the time to review your credit, it would be worth the time and money to meet with a financial planner, who is a fiduciary (must put your interests first) to make a long term financial plan.

    • @Ripside2
      @Ripside2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd love to hear the plan. They will not settle this debt. She doesn't make enough to pay this debt off in less than 20 years. The interest ALONE on 400k is 24k a year. The best option would be to work for a 403b and take the loan forgiveness provided while on IBR for 120 payments.

      I think the magnitude of the debt has paralyzed her and she's lost all hope of attacking it. She has good income and greater potential. She needs to reduce her spending, refinance the debt, and begin to address it. It may entail leaving her job as a flight attendant and establishing herself full time and more as a chiropractor. Working with a good financial advisor will help. Maybe an option might be to move back with her parents, work hard, long and smart and direct every single dollar to paying off her debt.

    Fun fact: the US government spent 1.9 trillion dollars on a jet that doesn't work. All that money could've been used to pay off all student debt.

    Why would you take out medical doctor loans but not do it for medical doctor pay?

    Can someone summarize in the comments why she was working 2 jobs and had half a million in student debt?

    • @Usagi393
      @Usagi393 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because she is unable to keep up with the interest. I can only assume she took out a high interest loan(s)-probably private

    • @D2J8
      @D2J8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow, that’s ridiculous. I agree that they must’ve been private loans. With federally-funded ones, she could get loan forgiveness after working for public service organizations or in underserved communities for 10 years.

    Isn't the Biden Administration looking at forgiving some of this student debt? If so, I hope Courtney is on that list.
    I graduated debt free, because I attended College back before it became so expensive, I worked PT and my Mother had bought U.S. Savings Bonds to pay for my College.
    I cannot fathom what it would be like to have that kind of debt hanging over me. All you can do is just put it on the back burner by continuing to live and enjoy your life, while supporting political candidates who see a vision of investing in the student debt as a way to propel this Country into a better day.

    We need to talk about debt and how you can avoid it or pay it off. It can be done and you don't need govt help to do so.

    Half a million in debt! Shouldn’t have gone to school then. Only go if it’s worth the money, not everyone needs college

      @Kimhong Nguyen Exactly! If I want to go to school for 8 year and get my PHD in African American studies I should be able to do that. The government should raise taxes on truck drivers, plumbers, electricians and a whole lot of other people that didn’t go to college in order to make sure I can follow my dreams and passion! I’m with you 100% girlfriend

    i'm sorry for not feeling sorry for her. this is definitely her own choice. it might not be a mistake, but she pretty much intentionally put herself in this position. sorry, if you are worried about your money you need a financial adviser, something you can actually afford unlike most poor folks. i don't feel sorry for you, you said it yourself. if you just did the one thing you would make more. you are screwing yourself. take control of it by doing what you need to do to pay off your debt. don't complain that you make 50k a year. whole families don't make that much. i cannot feel bad for you.

      I feel sorry for her because there was a deep lack of financial knowledge when she started out. She can get out from that debt, but needs to educate herself. Jump on youtube and check out minimalism and learn to invest in property and stocks. She can do it!
