I agree that the commercialization of hip hop was inevitable. What I disagree with is the notion that it's a "natural progression". There's no such thing as commercial progress in the area of pop culture,outside maybe certain technological advances that deliver more autonomy from the industry to the masses. Outside that a natural REGRESSION is what happens with commercial culture;precisely because corporations don't develop culture but rather co-opt it,extract all it's value,then destroy it.
