Thumbs up , point to remember 1.Wound dressing is a sterile procedure hence the need to do sterile handwashing 2.Clean the wound with a gauze inside out without repeating the same gauze over and over. Thank you
Thanks for your efforts. I advice to go on your knees or raise up the bed with the electronic device attached to the bed to hip level. Then save your vertebrae and work countless of years.
Wound dressing is a difficult procedure in the nursing s hool . You can't ever be perfect enough. But try and maintain your sterile field. Carbonate your trolley. Wash your hand. Get your forceps and clean the wound. Strictly aseptic
Is it advisable to used hands for this procedure? Am a student and we were taught that we can only use a forcep to collect the swaps and gauze and also to clean the wound not to use our bare hands
In wound dressing, you can use either sterile gloved hands or sterile instruments. I have videos on both. In this video the nurse is using sterile gloves (its not bare hands), while here th-cam.com/video/jActD_dOYag/w-d-xo.htmlsi=X6gbJcGwgHYh2g2b the nurse used instruments. Check here too th-cam.com/video/3izgObPDUGc/w-d-xo.html for how to handle the instruments in dressing wounds.
U can use sterile gloved hands or sterile instrument to dress wound. Any is accepted. Check my video on wound dressing without assistance u will see in that the nurse used instruments.
Thanks for the feedback. One thing to be corrected here is there should have been hand hygiene before donning the gloves. But you should know a patient is not a 'contaminated object' that anytime you touch him/her you must be in gloves. If the part you are touching, especially the skin, has no lesion that will risk spread of infection to or from the patient then you can touch with bare hands. If you will always wear gloves anytime you touch a patient then you aren't handling him/her as a human.
That's a good observation. The hand washing was outside the video coverage so it was written as a subtitle just before opening the top shelf. Also take note that hand washing/hand hygiene is always done before and after donning gloves as well (that wasn't done in the video too). As for opening the Gallipots with the bare hands, it will be better to prepare the sterile field with opened Gallipots since the whole sterile field is covered with a sterile towel ( none the less she didn't touch any material that will come in direct contact with the patient's wound with her bare hands though).
First she used saline solution to clean the wound Then iodine, I mostly use the Brez brand Then she soaked gauze in iodine and placed on the wound Then dry gauze on the wet gauze with iodine then plaster. Usually I prefer to use vaseline gauze after cleaning before wet gauze with iodine then the plaster.
That's great. Many people might not know how difficult it is in a lesser equipped health institutions.

Noted. These beds aren't adjustable that way.
I go on my knees or sit on a lot chair or even on patients beds for certain interventions
Lot = low
It is advisable to pour all solutions and perform hand hygiene before exposing the wound
You have to assess the extent of wound to know how much materials to use
Interesting, thank you

Sterile gloves hands is accepted for wound dressing. This is not bare hands
While doing sterile wound dressing you don't go below your waist
To avoid contamination
Noted but when height of the bed cannot be adjusted what will you do?

No hand washing before and during the procedure
Well done. But sterility is seriously compromised.
At what point pls?
Thanks but didn't perform hand washing any where and used bear hand to torch to top shelf instruments 😜

Is it advisable to clean the outer surroundings of the wound before inside
It should be from inside to outside precisely cleaner part before the less cleaner part to reduce the risk of contaminating the inside/cleaner part.
No ma'am you clean inside to outside
Not outside to inside
To avoid cross Infection
Sterility was compromised , this video is misleading please
Please at which point exactly was asepsis compromised? I want to know where you find misleading
@@nursingart247 sterile drape was not supposed to be lifted with bare hands and that of opening the galipot *

It is dependent on your facility's protocol. And those that use gauze have their rational as well as those that use cotton wool.
