The English localization team is a true gift for FF7 Remake and Rebirth.
Sure, provided you don't understand japanese or that you like people who think they are better than those who actually wrote the story.
I mean, Square Enix LITERALLY had to patch FFVII Remake because what Aerith says at the end doesn't reflect the original line at all. And this is a constant in both games.
Unfortunately, having played and adored the original, I can't cope with stuff like "phoenix down", "buster sword" or "Cosmo Canyon" translated in italian, otherwise I wouldn't bother with the awful english localization at all.

Funny how the german version is almost a 1to1 identical translation to the japanese original , while the other versions did their own(totally different) thing.
This is true in general for the German translation. If you understand both English and German play one language as dub the other as sub, the differences are wild. Sometimes the context of what has been said is different.

I love how the Japanese version is significantly more simple and feels the most childlike of them all.
The German one really is simple as well and way closer to the Japanese than English and French.

As a native Chinese speaker, Japanese does sound the funniest and most suitable for Yuffie.
Also what's up with the flow in the german version? Some words really don't fit syllables wise, and its not like there wouldnt have been substitute words for that to be used or slightly rewriting the lyrics so the flow doesn't get lost there. It's still ok despite the two times it loses it's flow, but the english version (despite sped up in this vid) does it best still.
If I had to rank them:
1. English Yuffie
2. French Yuffie
3. Japanese Yuffie
4. German Yuffie
I do like that the japanese and german version sound more "childlike" but.. also like lacking? The english version definitly has the most "soul" being put into it I'd say.

yes the others are have more "soul" and are more "polished" but they totally missed the point of the song. its not about being a great sounding song but about a teenage girl thats totally bored and doing some random song even tho she cant really sing. coz thats the most teenage thing to do. it SUPPOSE to sound flawed and goofy. there isnt suppose to be a "flow"
@@MikedieONE Yuffie isn't a real-life teenager, this isn't supposed to be "realistic". Heck, those characters were performing in a stage play like professionals, including Yuffie. It's a fantasy world with fantasy characters and the fact is, the English song is more pleasant to listen to.
@Evilriku13 yeah that’s the problem, the English one put in a polished performance. When it’s more like when you’re in the shower and singing a catchy song but you only know some of the lyrics so you either make them up or hum them, while also singing badly because you can’t sing and didn’t even practise. That’s why people are saying the English one missed the point even though yeah, it’s the best song.

And it's absolutely nothing compared to Tifa and Aerith's performance during the parade or Cloud dancing.

Understanding French, I'm surprised how it's pretty good and similar to the English one vibe-wise.
Its so stupid this game did not get translated in spanish, i mean its probably one of the largest spoken languages in the world.. i know a bunch of people who are dying to play it but wish it was in their language.
I love how the EN localization team saw the absolute nonesense of the JP lyrics and said "Alright people let's turn in into a banger"
People here really think same lyrics as purposely dumb as that would work for other languages outside of Japanese lol. As a Japanese speaker it can already sound dumb enough and now imagine if it's in English, same stupid lyrics just wouldn't work for English which is why they had to change it
I don't think people want the same direct translations. They just want the lyrics to convey the same situation / emotion. They can easily do something like "ma ma ma ma ma materia, giv giv giv give me that ..." to make it express the same mindless randomness.
I agree, in Japanese that kind of silly delivery works very well, but it would sound super forced if the EN voice actor just tried to copy her performance, I'm glad she got to sing her own version!
Only the English & French versions have substance to them.
Don't understand French or German ... but JP voice properly demonstrates how a random mindless singing would be like by a young girl. English version is too polished and definitely not brainless singing as what it should be.. JP one specifically repeats sounds just so 1 word can fit an entire section of the song because that's what people actually do when they're just expressing boredom without trying to actually sing with proper lyrics...
The English version sounds like she wrote it earlier and was waiting for someone to come in to hear her singing.
I wish more people would appreciate things as they were intended to be so we wouldn’t have to hear stuff like this. Hearing them try so hard here and fail just as hard is painful.

I also just have a distaste for changing media from its original format outside of stuff like parody or comedic dubs and the like. I mean, even I’d argue my position probably sounds pretentious, but I’ve also experienced enough stories completely botched by poor localization to not even bother.

English contextually sounds too polished. Same with French, but French is a bit more fun to hear. Meanwhile Japanese and German, that what I would sing in a boring situation like Yuffie. Just some random words that comes to mind at the moment.

From very beautiful music with loyal fanbases and covers like Melodies of Life, Suteki DaNe, Eyes on Me and Emotion, to this Yuffie singing so bored. What a big big downgrade the Final Fantasy games are nowadays. Melodies of Life from 9 has the Japanese and English versions and both of em are totally different meanings, two different "stories" litteraly. What a good game 9 has been made by old skool SquareSoft.
This is why native language for artwork is always superior. The dubs for these games don’t work, like.. at all.
Somebody thought they were being clever and turned a cute little improvised joke song into a try hard mess. Foreign dubbing feels like when people “fix” art and remove all identity from it, especially considering how piss poor a job they usually do.
I mean, English dubbed anime is basically unwatchable unless you literally just want information given to you through speech. I’m not sure if it’s the directing or the VAs themselves, but it’s just fucking awful to listen to.
Even if native Japanese dubbing is also bad, at least I can barely understand the flaws, and at least they should like they’re interacting and having fun bouncing off each other, whereas the English anime VA industry somehow sounds try hard AND sterile at the same time.

Sure, nothing beats the native language when it comes to dubbing (in this case, Japanese), but the English VA industry has grown and changed over the years, and they've gotten better to stay faithful as much as possible, even though it's still not perfect. Some VAs and voice directors hear the original Japanese dub for some projects before they start recording themselves.
