It’s crazy to think that the most important monarch those countries have are females. Elizabeth I and II. Victoria, Catherine the Great, Cleopatra, Isabelle of Castille, Mary of Scots, Maria Theresa of Austria, etc. All of them changed their countries, brought new ideas, arts and social changes. I mean, Elizabeth and Victoria have historical periods that are named after themselves.

    • @CallemJayNZ

Most of the English/British Monarchs have periods named after them. The era after the Victorian is called the Edwardian, followed by the Georgian era after the three George's and that minor Edwardian hiccup before our last King George. Then came the second Elizabethan era now we have the Carolinian Era. I'm not sure if it's the third Carolinian Era or the second as the era of the second King Charles was called the Carolean era.

Victoria, Elizabeth II, and Mary Queen of Scots weren't important monarchs for their countries. Victoria was unpopular for most of her reign as she isolated herself for decades. She was also a constitutional monarch like Elizabeth II which is why neither are important. Constitutional monarchs don't do much besides do royal events, they dont run the country. Mary Queen of Scots was very unwise. None of these women had a huge impact on their country in important ways. Victoria was a nasty woman, who didn't do much, Elizabeth II acted like a Queen but has no power. How can these women be some of the countries most important monarchs? They have limited to no power and the Queen of Scots used her heart and not her brain to rule. There are about 10 male rulers from all these countries in their history that were more important or equally important. Catherine the Great and Elizabeth I were important. They done many things for their country. But to say constitutional monarchs and Mary Queen of Scots are significant in a good way is laughable. If Victoria was an absolute monarch, there would have been a civil war.😂😂

@@jamiemohan2049 To sit there and say Queen Elizabeth II wasn’t important solely because she was a constitutional monarch is just stupid. Elizabeth ruled for 70 of English history and served as an ambassador of England. Not only that, she was beloved by millions-something you’d never know yourself btw. It truly is thoughtless to say Elizebeth didn’t do anything because she wasn’t an absolute monarch, because there literally hadn’t been one since King John singed Magna Carta in 1215.

My favorite is Jadwiga I of Poland. Jadwiga was crowned at the age of 10 as KING of Poland. Despite being crowned at such young age she never had a regant. She was one of the best rulers in polish history. She TRIPLED size of the kingdom of Poland by dimplomacy, marriage and wars. She was a great diplomat and even her enemies admitted that it was impossible to get more than she decided to give. She was also able to lead war campaigns, like when in 1387 (she was 13 at that time) she conquered Ruthenia (todays Ukraine). She also spoke in 6 languages. She gave life to the first university in Poland (Casimir the Great started the process of its creation, but Jadwiga finished the work). Sadly she reigned only for 15 years because she died young at the age of 25/26. It's really impressive how much she was able to achieve during those 15 years and it makes you think how much she could do if she lived longer. Even her enemies like Teutonic Knights admired her beauty, wisdom and admitted that she was a worthy opponent.

For example, g in Japanese is never soft, always hard, and in Hawaiian names the letter i always represents an “ee” sound, never an “aye” sound. A North American accent is fine and expected but at least get closer to the real pronunciation within the limits of English phonology.

I would like to know more about the Navarre monarchy, especially Blanca II or Blanche II. She was initially married to Isabella of Castile brother. The marriage was not consummated, but she was blamed for the childless marriage and was sent back to Navarre in shame.
Her father was far from good either. He refused to allow his children to inherit the throne of Navarre. Blanca and her brother rebelled in which her brother died. She did reigned briefly but was overthrown by her father and younger sister. Later on, it was believed they poisoned her to death. Her younger sister patiently waited till their father's died in order to inherit the throne.

I do find it interesting that the Duchess of Parma was mentioned, but that the Duchess of Lucca was not. Infanta Maria Luisa of Spain (who was also the Dowager Queen of the Napoleonic state of Etruria) ruled as the Duchess of Lucca from 1815 until her death in 1824.
There was also the Duchy of Massa and Principality of Carrara, held in personal union, which had 2 female rulers. The first was Maria Teresa, the last of the House of Cybo-Malaspina and her daughter Maria Beatrice, the last ruler of both principalities before she died and they passed to Modena.
There was also the Principality of Piombino, which had 6 princesses. Mother and daughter Paola and Caterina who reigned sequentially in the 15th century, Isabella who regained the throne after the death of Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II (who seized the principality for himself) and then ruled until 1628 when she was driven off the throne by the Spanish (who just occupied the principality). The next Princess was Olimpia, Isabella’s step-granddaughter who ruled for less then a year in 1700 before dying, being succeeded by her sister Ippolita who ruled until her death in 1733, before being succeeded by her daughter Maria Eleonora (as Ippolita outlived her only son) who ruled until 1745 as the last princess, and the title has been held after her death by the House of Boncompagni-Ludovisi ever since.

While the family would legally intermarry, they had plenty of unofficial relationships that resulted in “illegitimate” children who added fresh blood to the line.

@@graceneilitz7661 it's not sure that he was really illegitimate
I have seen that many historians lean towards Cleopatra IV as a potential mother
and that the illegitimacy would come from the fact that Cleopatra III forced Ptolemy IX to divorce Cleopatra IV who was influential on the king, that their marriage was invalid and given that Ptolemy XII was born before his father's coronation
he was not the son of the royal couple (Ptolemy IX and Cleopatra Selene)
and the actions of Cleopatra IV after her exile must not have helped to legitimize her possible son
she raised an army and asked for help from her brother Alexander (Ptolemy X) to attack Egypt
      what he refused
she took control of the Cypriot fleet and intervened in the Seleucid civil war
alongside Antiochus IX against his half-brother Antiochus VIII while the Ptolemies officially supported Antiochus VIII without intervening militarily
but Cleopatra IV contracted a marriage in complete independence with the enemy and brought him part of the Ptolemaic fleet and soldiers
which surely pissed off Cleopatra III
and also the roman author Justin says that Cleopatra III forced Cleopatra IV to leave while she had two children
and the only children of this time are Ptolemy XII and his brother Ptolemy of Cyprus
and that they had to invite him is normal
when Cleopatra III went to war against Ptolemy IX
she sent her grandchildren to Cos for their protection but when the queen died in 101 BC
the people betrayed the Ptolemies and gave
      the princes to Mithridates VI
and they remained at his court until the death of Berenice III in 80 BC

If you’re basing on modern countries’ borders, Bali is actually in Indonesia, and back then we have so many kingdoms even an empire led by Queens, most of them are actually reached the golden era when they’re on the throne.
    Some of them:
    1. Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi (Mahapahit Empire)
    2. Ratu Kalinyamat
    3. Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan Zainatuddin Kamalat Syah (Sultanate of Aceh, she’s the 4th Queen in a row)
    4. Ratu Shima
    5. Mahendradatta (from Bali - part of Indonesia)
    And so on…
We also have matrilineal ethnic group that exist until now called Minangkabau. Even There’s an ethnic group recognized 5 genders expression called Bugis.
We also have Keumalahayati, or Malahayati, tho she’s not a classic definition of a Queen, She was the first woman admiral in the modern world (if Artemisia I is not included). She led an army consisting of female soldiers. She beaten Dutch commander Cornelis de Houtman on a ship.
Malahayati's reputation as the guardian of the Aceh Kingdom led England to choose a peaceful, diplomatic method by which to enter the Malacca Strait. A letter from Queen Elizabeth I was brought by James Lancaster to the Sultan of Aceh.

My favourite from those I know enough of has to be Catherine the Great. She’s truly deserving of her title, she led her nation to glory while being good. Her only failure was leaving the throne to her son, but even that she tried not to do, but died before she could make it official. I suppose she can also be faulted for not being a good mother, but she was prevented from it in the beginning, when Empress Elizabeth snatched her son from her, thus ruining the mother son bond that could’ve been formed.
All in all, one love Catherine:))

I take it that not just queens are counted but also other forms of monarchy of lower rank like duchesses and countesses etc.? If so with regards to Italy there was a very interesting ruler called Mathilda countess of Tuscany who was made a saint. At the time Italy and the rest of the Holy Roman empire was rent by a conflict between the secular rulers headed by the emperor Henry IV in opposition to the church that wanted to have the last say in most matters. Mathilda took the side of the pope and the church and actually led armies in battles against the forces of the emperor and his allies. She and the pope won and forced the emperor into a humiliating show of repentance at a place called Canossa. As a result the church gained a lot of territory in central Italy which it possessed until the mid 19th century a remnant of which is now the tiny state of Vatican city within the city of Rome. She was made a saint largely because of her undying support for the church and its interests. One of the most powerful women of the middle ages!

Egypt's history of queen regnants is interesting because historians believe that there were more queen regnants before Sobekneferu. It's commonly believed that a woman named Merneith managed to rule in her own right based on historical records that existed during her lifetime. Additionally, it is speculated that a woman named Neithhotep ruled in her own right before Merneith, though this may have been because historians initially believed her to be a male ruler. However, the reason Sobekneferu is recorded as the earliest queen regnant because she was the first woman to adopt the full royal titularies.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Hawaiian names have silent e's, so names like Keakalaniwahine would be pronounced "keh-ah-kah-lah-nee-wah-hee-neh." A few corrections about Navarre, after the death of Louis X of France and I of Navarre, son of Joanna I of Navarre, he was succeeded by his son Jean the Posthumous who died shortly and then by Louis's two brothers Philip V of France and II of Navarre and Charles IV of France and I of Navarre. Only after that did Joanna II inherit the Kingdom of Navarre but not France. Also, all husbands of the Queens of Navarre were automatically co-rulers as was the law in Navarre. During the reign of Catherine of Navarre and her husband John III in 1512, Ferdinand the catholic invaded and conquered all of Navarre south of the Pyrenees. There were a few failed attempts to retake this land by Navarre but after the Treaty of Cambrai in 1529 Navarre was officially partitioned into Upper Navarre south of the Pyrenees which included the overwhelming majority of the Kingdom and Lower Navarre which is a tiny strip of land north of the Pyrenees. The treaty was finalized during the reign of Catherine's son and successor Henry II of Navarre, the father of Joanna III. Joanna III was Catherine's granddaughter not daughter. Also, Lower Navarre did not return to Spain and is currently part of the French Basque Country.

Finally, a video that laughs in the face of twelve-year-old me! When I lived in England, everybody was saying: "The longest-reigning monarch in British History," when talking about Queen Victoria. Whenever I heard that, I thought to myself: "She's a fraud! She never ruled anything after her husband died." But Queen Elizabeth II, she did rule the country (even though she held the same level of power as the PM, which has been the case since the reign of her grandfather, George V), and did not stop until she dropped dead. She surpassed Victoria as well as many other rulers, and she is the second-longest-reigning monarch in history, behind Louis XIV.

    1. is [gʲ] or [ɟ], not [gai̯]. Thus, Kōgyoku is [koːgʲokɯ] or [koːɟokɯ]
    2. is [g], never [d͜ʑ]. Additionally, vowels are in hiatus. Thus, for example, Genmei is [geɴme.i]. Although, you pronounced Aiko correctly.

Russia had NINE empress or princesses regnant?
I can't see it. From Tsar Peter I till Paul outlawed female succession ( yes he hated his mother Catherine II that much!) there were Catherine I, II Anne and Elizabeth. Anna Leopoldovna as the mother of poor Ivan VI was regent but not a reigning queen as were the mother of Ivan IV, Elena Glinskaya; and the Sister of the young Peter the Great, Sophia Alexeyevna.
There was also Grand Princess Olga of the10th century.
For the life of me I cannot think who the 9th would be, unless i include the mother of young Tsar Michael, the nun Marfa - forced to take the veil to exclude her from the throne as was her husband. She acted as a regent until removed in favour of her ex husband the Patriarch of Moscow Philaret
Are you stretching a point ( too far IMO) or have i missed something?
I count FOUR empresses, or FIVE if you count Grand Princess Olga

One thing to add, There are at least 8 confirmed queens that ruled over some parts of the arabian peninsula. All of which belong to arab descent.
Arwa Al-Sulayhi, Zabibe, Samsi, Yatie, Te'el-hunu, Tabua, Adia, Sitt Al-Mulk
Ontop of that there were various female tribal leaders (sheikhat) before and after islam, Like sojyah (صوغية) who ruled over the tribal territories of bnu main in joint rule with her husband. Mind you tribalism was the primary form of governance in the middle part of the peninsula for a long time, just thought itd be fun to share!

Inbreeding doesn’t create genetic disorders, it just hugely increases the chances of bad genes that already exist in a bloodline getting expressed. Marrying your sister won’t create a new disease, but you kid does have a much higher chance of getting a defective gene from both of you and therefore being ill. It could just be that the Ptolemaic dynasty was very lucky and didn’t really have any problems to pass on, although they did have a serious infertility/infant mortality issue
