Darla Jackson I sure would love to be there marching and playing with them. I, too, am 67. My parents got me my first accordion for my 6th birthday. I, also, played my Dad’s accordion for years. This past summer I took it with me on a missions trip to Haiti and gave it to a village church to use in their services. I wanted it to continue to be used for God. It was hard, in a way, to do so because my Dad purchased it new in 1951 or ‘52, so we had it for many years, but it was time to pass it on. BTW, I was born May 19, 1952, in Shelby, Montana.

It’s interesting how these people haven’t progressed in a political sense . Their ancestors and descendants who came over to the states have made such positive contributions and don’t have any religious hang ups , but respect all to practice or not as each sees fit . Also , the Appalachian peoples who are descendants of the original Presbyterians have held on to the old culture and it’s really beautiful .
I miss your points. I get that these are Ulster-Scots bands and they are playing hymns. I see a bit of the masonic or of the Salvation Army in some of them. To what "political sense" would you wish to to have advanced? Which religious hang ups do you see here that we blessed few in the states do not have? I suppose this had to do with the various ideas about Ireland, and unification. Religion and its place in our civil society is not a settled issue, just as our bedrock principle of free assembly and free speech are not in the minds of many left and right a settled issue. Many now on the streets, at the pulpit and in congress would happily cut back these rights and are doing so. True Ireland's constitution says, " “In the Name of the Most Holy Trinity, from whom is all authority and to whom, as our final end, all actions both of men and States must be referred”. Many here would agree with a slight change in wording e.g. put in God, Allah, Earth Mother and strike the rest. Scots immigrating to the US were mostly protestant, the Irish were mostly Catholic and then and still to an extent looked to the church for political guidance and education. We are not so far ahead as some think. Me I am not a big fan of the accordion for a marching band. Bring on the winds.

I am not sure whether this is in Ireland or England, but to hear all these EVANGELICAL hymns being played in such a way is really inspiring.

They would be termed "Orange" or Ulster Protestant or Loyalist (usually reserved for the flute bands) marching bands
