Find songs to rehearse in your chest voice range. Record yourself too. When I sing in head voice, the placement is totally different than chest. In chest, I have to sing from my mask.
I was at a quite famous childs choir some years, singing in soprano... I always (at least for the last 25 years) wondered why my voice was always jumping automatically into head voice, which is way higher than my speaking voice. Your comment about that this happens when you sang in a choir was mind blowing. Thanks for that
My lower register has always been my problem. I've been classifed as a lyric tenor. People can hardly hear my low notes. Although I have a pretty nice head voice according to my late voice teacher, I need to work on my lower register.
was a soprano in middle school choir up until the end of my high school, got so used to my head voice, i had forgotten i had a chest voice. This was very helpful, thank you so much.
Out of all the videos I watched she explains chest voice well and what you need to do, and then she has key words that helps me more I really appreciate that❤
I’m not in choir, but I have a Disney princess voice and I’m in theatre. my chest voice is legit so bad, and my dad keeps telling me to sing in my real voice like wtf is that 😭😭😭
I'm also part of the "only sings in headvoice" gang. Well, actually according to my ENT doctor, I SPEAK in headvoice. I didn't know, I was trying hard to learn sing in head voice because I thought this was me singing in chest voice. Because this is my regular voice and people's regular voice is chest voice. And I believed headvoice meant that I should literally hear it in my head ! But then the doctor broke the news to me : "Surprise ! You're doing it naturally. You don't have to learn to sing high." I can't even speak in chest voice goddamnit. This is so frustrating ! I only managed to sing in chest voice once by accident. And after that I never found how to do it again. I've been searching for advices on internet but most people talk only about learning headvoice. How can I properly sing without knowing the basis ? Thank you for making this video. I goddamn hope I'll learn how to chest voice one day.
I am training for opera. I just couldn't find a teacher to teach me chest voice. I naturally speak on A3. My chest breaks every note up, mostly on D4, E4. I must put the chest in my middle register.
Thank you so much for posting such a high quality basic lesson. I can easily tell that this exercise will greatly advance my current goal of developing enough power for an easy sustain of phrasing. The interesting thing I noticed from this exercise is that it's easier to practice a natural projection in head voice range, than in chest voice range, so this lesson is especially valuable. Us financially incapacitated people are truly grateful. One day I hope to be able to actually purchase singing lessons. Thank you again.
I won't say I'm a beginner as i started sing almost a year ago but today i actually gotta know what a chest voice is and i hope to cover up this. Thank you so much for this video ❣️ It was great
This was very helpful. I'm a beginner and am just figuring out how important it is for me to understand the physical mechanics behind how to create each sound and structure. I found your video very helpful, thank you 😊
Your videos have been helping me for years, thank you for all your help. I realize for a lot of exercises I do with female teachers I automatically go an octave lower to make it easier for my voice but I naturally start doing this when working on songs too, any tips for someone who sings the proper note but always an octave lower (for example if the note is C5 B4 A4 Ill sing C4 B3 A3)
Hi Tony, I commented on a warm-up video of her from seven years ago... she gives us great exercises, but always on soprano key, does't use to say where do male voices sing. For me, and I'm a tenor, the same sensation she has on her exercises, I get by singing majos sixth lower. For example, if she relaxes vocalizing starting on A (right under the central C of the 88 tiles piano), for me the same sensation will come if I sing starting in the C below that A note of her. One octave down works to practice with the videos, but I memorize the exercises and play the vocalizings on my guitar in the proper key to me. So, try making a major sixth lower than her, for me it works.
Btw, usually male singing teachers point "boys sing here... but girls sing here". I miss this orientation, sometimes, from videos of female teachers I've seen.
Wow!! Thank you Fraya I sing at a church but never knew that I had always sang with head voice and it was so difficult to recognize chest voice, now I know the difference thank you sooo much!!
My first voice teacher when I was 13 only taught my to sing in head voice and I always wondered why I had to warm up before I could sing. I have never sung like this before and it was so much fun!
It was very difficult in starting to recognise my chest voice but when I just go to hello hello hello how are u I recognise my chest voice thanks a lot ♥️♥️♥️
Excellent, I think I learned the basics all wrong by starting off in my teens with punk and metal music. Now in my 30s I'm trying to sing country and its hard to break old habits. Do you do private voice lessons?
I needed this. I knew I always sung in head voice (started as an Alto but was a full time soprano most of my life). I was frustrated today by my private vocal lesson
I've been singing before I could talk ( my parents played so much good soul, r&b ) my natural speaking voice is a head voice. I hate to hear myself speak. N im black. I've picked up on it years ago, and I'm good at imitating and impersonating, so I have to have a thought of the sound in my HEAD, then I can chest it. I've been doin this for years. Your exercises showed me how to technically do what I've been doin for years
I don’t know why but now whenever I use chest voice especially at a really low octave I run out of breath and my chest feels congested like when I have a chest infection.any advice
I am a boy and I have been singing classical music(something like opera) for a year as a contro-tenor and the problem is my habit of singing in head voice is hard to resist :(
I can tell you’re speaking in head/mixed, when I speak in full chest I sound slightly like a dude. When singing, I sound exactly like a man. When I speak in my more mixed (natural speaking voice) voice I sound like a slightly deep voiced female, and when I speak in head voice (customer service) I sound super cute and bubbly. I highly doubt you feel chest vibration from speaking that way. I get that women tend to speak from near head voice naturally, and men tend to speak more near chest voice so it’s not normal for us nor easy, but I feel misinformation isn’t helpful. This is why I learned proper chest voice techniques from men. It’s dramatically improved my singing too
this is a very interesting comment, I feel like my speaking voice is stuck annoyingly in the gap between chest and head so it gets kind of crackly and annoying and thin sounding and sometimes strains my voice. You put that into words nicely. I also feel like it's difficult to drop into my chest voice overall because it doesn't sound "ladylike" enough if that makes sense. Somewhere deep down I don't want to sound too assertive I'm gonna take your advice
My chest voice sounds so differnet from my head voice . My head voice is very soft and my chest voice is very idk.... direct ?its hard to make a nice transition between them
I have a really high pitched voice and it’s really bad to the point where my voice hurts others ears. I also have a chance at getting a role I want in a play but I have such a high register that My director doesn’t want to give it to me because I sound to young.
I've been sick for years and just today when I was doing my angry singing, I can't yell when I'm mad but the frustration needs to get out so I usually sing in soprano about the stuff that's busting my tits and while singing about the half rotten tomatoes I've accidentally bought, I thought "oh hello miss loud voice that's echoing through the entire house, long time no see" and immediately tried to see where my chest voice is at.... I hate how I immediately switch to head voice when it gets too difficult. I don't get it, my speaking voice is rather deep, but my singing voice is high pitched and my chest voice must be somewhere in the middle.
An important reminder : " If you are not a beginner, it's important to come back to the basics. " Thank you!

I sang so much in my head voice, I didn't know I had a chest voice.
Same because I did head voice for three years in choir and it always felt like there was something more, and now I only sing in chest voice 😂
Izzy&Lilly this is what happened to me, i always sang in head voice in my 1 year of choir and now im trying to get better with my chest voice

She must've been stalking me or something because this is so me!! Sang soprano in high school choir and chest voice is just nonexistent 😭
I feel like that's just most sopranos 😆

GREAT VIDEO!!! Any tips on singing chest voice quietly? thx XD
Great ❤️❤️
Thx❤️
Does the vibration of the voice in the chest come from the rib cage area?
chest voice is best and bold
I'm a 13 years old boy who grew up in church I know a lot about all the registers
Hello Ma'am, I cannot understand the notes that you are playing in the exercise
I am a boy and I have been singing classical music(something like opera) for a year as a contro-tenor and the problem is my habit of singing in head voice is hard to resist :(

Hi! What is the chord progression you're playing in this exercise? -Rebecca
It sounds like I-iii.
What if my speaking voice is actually a head voice too?
can the use of the chest voice be thinned when the singing is a bit high?
My chest voice sounds so differnet from my head voice . My head voice is very soft and my chest voice is very idk.... direct ?its hard to make a nice transition between them
how do you find what your range is this does not really explain how to tell when i have switched from chest to head voice how do i tell?
Hi, when i say hello, do i need to slowly exhale at the same time? Great teaching here.. new subs 🙏💕
This confuse me as I can hear loads of mix in Freya's voice not all chest or is it just me? Maybe it's. Is her voice is so light
You have to be alone at home...
That's a big problem:")
But, actually, thank you a lot for such video☺️
I sound raspy every time I use my chest voice I normally always sing in my head voice . So idk what to do
Jesus loves you ❤
Surely its working out I just tried it here ...
Im a alto i never use head tonei need tp learn chest voices

I even speak in head voice
I have a really high pitched voice and it’s really bad to the point where my voice hurts others ears. I also have a chance at getting a role I want in a play but I have such a high register that My director doesn’t want to give it to me because I sound to young.

i can sing high notes when i was young idk why but now it's gone i think it's because of i'm ashamed to let my voice out before
Me too
you show me I use my chest more often then I tought
My chest voice is basically non existent. I can hit middle C and B but barely below that haha.
I am Giving my best to sing loud. I hope my neighbors will not hate me.
And I live on the first floor, 😑
