If neither party is interested, why was Meyer in East Lansing when anything legit can't be done until December? They could have just had a conference call. But he got on a plane, proabably landed in Flint, and was driven an hour or so to E. Lansing. If he actually did make the trip, I'd say stay tuned.
You have to be a experienced, successful, big time, hire with the conference expanding with those 4 West Coast schools and going no divisions. Just to try to keep up.

Totally agreed. Even what Mel Tucker has openly admitted to (phone sex with a university vendor while cheating on his wife) is damning and easily cause to fire him under that contract. It obviously causes disrepute to the university. He cannot win in court if he sues MSU for breach of contract. I don't know if MSU might give him a few pennies on the dollar to make him go away.
What you said at the very end has me terrified. So what if a judge rules that Tucker was wrongfully terminated, and must be paid $80 million? If that happens, MSU will be diving into the FCS for someone they can afford. Just as bad, probably even more likely-what if this Tucker litigation drags on over two or three years, and MSU’s legal team perceives there’s a chance they’ll have to pay all or most of the $80 million, which ties their hands on committing any money for the next several years. Clearly, this guy is a biased U of M fan and is taking joy in watching MSU fans squirm, but he's also a decent reporter and the lack of a clear denial that Meyer was there by Alan Haller is telling. But 30% is too high. That said he obviously knows Ohio State's record against U of M and was downplaying Urban Meyer's record against U of M. It's also obviously a lot more awkward for MSU to coalesce around Urban Meyer, a former Ohio State head coach who left in disgrace, than for U of M to unite behind recruiting a former grad who was a fairly successful NFL coach. I think Meyer is an excellent coach who could turn MSU around and see both the appeal and downside of hiring him.

Those schools have not open yet. If one of them were open right now then that discussion would be relevant. And those jobs are better. And MSU is a decent job I think it is top 25 in revenue. And they have competed with the big boys before.
