The Beatles were just so far and above all the so called greatest rock and roll groups. The Stones, Led Zepplin, etc. they perhaps have a place, but the Beatles paved the way for others to follow. It is a case of the often misquoted Aristotle saying, The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The Beatles as individuals were all great, but together, they were just so much better than they had the right to be. And we should be grateful that they came together for as long as they did.
Well goddamn. You said it like it should be said the Beatles are untouchable, having influence from the bands before and now influencing generations after. I am only 45 and my first love of music was The Beatles from 45’s on my father’s record player.
@@flabunny1 I was born in 1960, so my earliest memories of rock bands were the Beatles and then everyone else, who tried to catch the same lightning in a bottle. Sure some of them were very good, even great. But none of them can match the song writing of John and Paul, and the way that all 4 of them united together. They were the tightest group that ever existed.
To be fair, this guy could (and should) have mixed it up occasionally. When he's Googling 'The Beatles' at the start of the film, he also Googles 'Oasis' and finds out that they never existed either (because they basically spent their entire career trying to 'be' the Beatles), but they use it as just a throwaway gag. But it does mean that he ALSO had access to all of Oasis' back catalogue too! To be fair, there's some absolute bangers in there! Wonderwall, Roll With It, Don't Look Back in Anger, Stand By Me, Supersonic, Rock 'n' Roll Star, Don't Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Lyla, Slide Away.... Dude could have put out multiple albums of Oasis songs too, or slipped a few in alongside Beatles songs and no-one would have noticed
But only if he memorized the Oasis catalogue during his time on regular Earth, which isn't guaranteed. A musician of his calibre would potentially have played a few of their hits before, but maybe not all of them.
He probably thinks about how far he can coast along on all the Beatles song he can remember, then when he had had enough of that, maybe he will devolve to playing the Oasis catalogue. But, to be honest, a world in which the Beatles never exist is worthy of being made a movie of, whereas a world without Oasis...not so much.
Agreed..... Malik singing "please don't put your life in the hands of a rock & roll ban (they could've easily changed it to a "rock & roll man") at the Wembley scene would've been perfect
For decades when someone would ask me “what’s the best song by the Beatles” I’d respond “She came in through the bathroom window.” Then I heard this version of “Long and Winding Road” Now it’s been living rent free in my head.
I know the scene doesn’t make much sense but I always love coming back to it. It’s just the idea that these people in their eyes get to see greatness in the making and it makes me emotional thinking about the idea of witnessing it.
This is no way near a perfect movie but I love to revisit once in a while, is like redescovering the beatles again for the first time. Is something so unique for me because is something that would seem impossible to happen. This movie and this scene for me is just magical.
As a kid, walking the local Sears store with my parents in 1968 and 69, they would pipe in music. I vividly recall when a Beatles song would come on, I turned to my mom and asked, “who is that mom”, she replied, “son, that’s the Beatles”. What a great time to be a kid!
Sure glad to be older now and to have been younger then, when four lads from a working class English city came together and shook the popular music world to it's core. Thanks guys!
Funny how such a non-entity like this fellow Ed Sheeran could accept a line such as 'I was always told that there would be someone who'd come along who was a lot better than me', and deliver it in such a cavalier manner. I guess this is one of the things that make this little movie such a gem: it shows us how deep we have fallen.
The beauty of this movie is that you felt that you missed something, just like those characters did in the movie. Strangely we all remember the journey of "The Beatles" but still feel some kind of Mandela effect after watching this movie. I am from Dehradun (India) and we have a place called "Beatles Ashram" here, where they composed most of the songs for their self-titled double album "White Album". Harrison also composed an unreleased song titled "Dehradun" in 1968 about a small town of that time.
The way his voice almost cracks when acknowledging he's Salieri. He feels inadequate at what he's dedicated his life to. His pain is evident, yet subtle from the moment "The Long And Winding Road" changes his life. Ed Sheeran is not a bad actor.
Interesting seeing this scene again after watching "Get Back." McCartney was just not human in the period he wrote this. He probably *did* write it in 10minutes.
@@danielcersoHe came to those sessions with I've Got a Feeling and Two of Us pretty much fleshed out, and then proceeded to write Get Back, The Long and Winding Road, and Let it Be over about a 7 day period. Unreal.

The Beatles as individuals were all great, but together, they were just so much better than they had the right to be. And we should be grateful that they came together for as long as they did.
if you like the beatles i have something i think you will want to see
Some of Lennons solo songs are up there with the biggest Beatles songs imo.
Paul eh not.
Well goddamn. You said it like it should be said the Beatles are untouchable, having influence from the bands before and now influencing generations after. I am only 45 and my first love of music was The Beatles from 45’s on my father’s record player.
@@yeahbee8237troll
Or could have used Imagine as a song, or any solo acts....Also Wings
Dude don’t forget at the end about forgotten Harry Potter too 😅
For decades when someone would ask me “what’s the best song by the Beatles” I’d respond “She came in through the bathroom window.”
Then I heard this version of “Long and Winding Road”
Now it’s been living rent free in my head.
Nice without the violins, huh?
Honestly this movie is funny and just wholesome af
As a fan of the Beatles and Ed Sheeran, this movie is amazing to me especially when i first saw this in the theater!!!!!
Right!??
What a fun movie! Malik’s musical performances are such a befitting tribute to the Beatles
I know the scene doesn’t make much sense but I always love coming back to it. It’s just the idea that these people in their eyes get to see greatness in the making and it makes me emotional thinking about the idea of witnessing it.
Perhaps the best song ever written...I wholeheartedly agree!
Love this movie.. so underrated
Just the thought of The Beatles never existing gave me an incredibly sad feeling while watching this movie.
Ed Sheeran was amazing in this movie. Great singer and now actor.
That's Sir Ed Sheeran, according to the movie! lol
Best song PM ever wrote.
My grandmother lived very close to the McCartney farm.
It’s truly one of the most beautiful places
This is no way near a perfect movie but I love to revisit once in a while, is like redescovering the beatles again for the first time. Is something so unique for me because is something that would seem impossible to happen. This movie and this scene for me is just magical.
To be fair, Sheeran's song is pretty nifty.
As a kid, walking the local Sears store with my parents in 1968 and 69, they would pipe in music. I vividly recall when a Beatles song would come on, I turned to my mom and asked, “who is that mom”, she replied, “son, that’s the Beatles”. What a great time to be a kid!
I grew up with the Beatles in the Philippines. Their songs are on top of my playlist when I play my guitar.
❤two things: his voice, for an actor, and Ed's acting, for a singer.
Tbf Ed Sheeran's song is pretty good
Would be sick if he actually wrote that in 10 mins
The brilliance and magic of the Beatles will never get old. Himesh did them well.
He could have been a bit kinder and pulled out 'Octopus's Garden'.
Funniest comment ever.
The artwork on the walls at this building tho!❤️
The way his voice almost cracks when acknowledging he's Salieri. He feels inadequate at what he's dedicated his life to. His pain is evident, yet subtle from the moment "The Long And Winding Road" changes his life. Ed Sheeran is not a bad actor.
Great movie. It makes us know just what a gift that music is.
Interesting seeing this scene again after watching "Get Back." McCartney was just not human in the period he wrote this. He probably *did* write it in 10minutes.
Even more amazing that he was composing Let it Be at the same time lol
@@danielcersoHe came to those sessions with I've Got a Feeling and Two of Us pretty much fleshed out, and then proceeded to write Get Back, The Long and Winding Road, and Let it Be over about a 7 day period. Unreal.
And the beauty is that one could say Jack was only trying to show the superiority of the group he loved for so many reasons.
Rocky's little glance over to Sheeran half way through the song always gets me. 😂 Always the comic relief, at times the source of unfiltered truth. He's a great supporting character to the protagonist.
A los 10 años mas o menos, tome un disco de mi mamá y The long and winding road, me enamoró. La oia una y ota vez. En esa edad pensaba que tenia un gusto musical de señoras 🤣
Luego un día a los 12 en la escuela, en inicio de año conocí a un nuevo compañero con gustos similares. y fue como: Te gusta Queen? -siii, te gusta One night at the Opera??? -siiiiii... Y oiste de los Beatles, the long and winding road?... - OH SEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤣
Can we appreciate how brilliant the Beatles were, John and Paul, the goats of song writing. The best there was period!
I really really like this movie. I thought it was so underrated and when I saw it, I was surprised how good it was. It was surprising very emotional..
The Mozart/Salieri comment was an epic statement. Dude knows his history.
Makes me want to watch this movie again.
It worked Netflix!
Respect for ES. his love of what the Beatles had and have shared for all
Loved everything about this film 👏👏👏
Irrespective of Sheeran playing himself, those are pretty complex emotions to convey through facial expressions, words and gestures... musical rapture, surprise, a sense of humilliation and humility, and he does it beautifully. Every moment is immensely believable and convincing.
This scene showed how genius Paul and the Beatles are. The lyrics and musicality are unmatched.
Such a good movie, and you can tell it was made with love for the Beatles and their songs.
if netflix can get the rights they should make a beatles series about their career since it would be too hard to put into a 2 hour movie, the beatles were the most streamed music group for the entire year of 2020 beating out all new groups, bts came in 2nd, so the time is right for someone to make a beatles series, bts is a flash in the pants like nsync and one direction were, in 2030 some new group will be compared to the beatles, it happens every 10 years, but there will never ever be another beatles
Dont have to degrade one to upgrade another
Bts is not a flash in the pan.. theyll have their own section in history as a non English grp that made an impact.
The beatles also have theirs
Sparkling bright . Both.
@@yoonjin3790 when bts is 40 and 50 they wont be famous anymore because nobody will want to see old men dancing, they would look silly, they are a joke and bad for music because they are in music and lack the talent to be a real music group, only people with no standards like them
@@americanpatriot7233 how stupid your remark is. Does not warrant a reply. But know this-
BTS does not know you but surely YOU know them. LOL. BYE 👋 👋 👋
@@yoonjin3790 i couldnt name one of them and i couldnt name a song by them i only heard of bts because so many indians on youtube chatrooms who like bts which is even more proof only people with no standards like bts since people from 3rd world countries like india have no standards, and notice you cant prove me wrong by naming one video showing bts all playing music at the same time together like a real music group, only videos of all of them dancing, lets see if anyone likes them at 40 and 50 dancing haha they wont even be remembered they will be as forgotten as all the other dance groups who came before them like nsync and new kids on the block and take that.
@@yoonjin3790 you saying the truth is stupid is proof how weak and corrupt you are, and it is the truth because you cant prove me wrong by even naming one video where they are all playing music together at the same time like a real music group does, they lack the talent to be a real music group
You can see in his eyes the beginning of what makes the end of the movie.
Interesting premise of the film. Out of 7 billion people you would think more than one person would remember the Beatles.
Several other people appear near the end of the movie who remember the Beatles but aren't natural musicians like Jack...
1:18 On the left. I'm betting that's a member of the film crew blending in as part of the after party.
"hey dude" always on my mind😂😂😂
Love love this movie & the efforts of all to bring it to the screen !!! ♥️♥️♥️
Jack: "Maybe I'll do one of my own songs."
Announcer: "And now, the soon to be defeated Jack Malik!"
Jack: "Long and Winding Road it is."
I was heartbroken by that final line. And by that other one, "I fought my battles, and I won. ... a couple of times" in the same movie.
I wish there was a way I could hear the Beatles again for the first time
Lol. Imagine if this was real: you're a global superstar, millionaire, talented, and in a bar some jackweed comes along and drops one of the greatest songs ever written. lol.
Is this part of a netflix show? Hasn't crossed my feed yet, might have to go looking for it!
This scene never made sense. Just because each said he wrote the song in 10 minutes doesn't mean he didn't already have it in his back pocket.
Ed made that part of the rules: can’t use a song already started
It was a gentlemens agreement. One the portag broke because his arc is he's a fraud.
Not sure how that doesnt make sense...?
Given the fantastical premise, a song that damn good would have been heard “by now” in the fantasy world Jack lives in
If you had written that song, would you have waited until then to play it for anyone?
@@redrick8900Jack never wrote the songs.
After the power outage event, only a few people had any memory of the Beatles. In the alternative universe, the Beatles never existed as a group.
Jack, as a musician, had the skills to recreate them from memory.
He knew he was being a fraud. That is his redemptive story arch.
It's amazing how this movie is so great despite having roles by both Ed Sheeran AND James Corden.
I fail to see any reason why those two solid actors would negatively impact the quality of the movie. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Ed Sheeran I'd argue is essential to the movie though. You need a solid folk-pop modern star. He does it perfect, and is humble enough to just be blown away by the Beatles.
@@tatonka411 NOBODY would ever reject the chance to be blown away by the Beatles. It is an honor.
Brilliant concept!. Well implemented!.
I forgot about this movie and especially the scene… but it did remind me about Ed Sheeran’s Penguins
Учитывая, что все стены были на русском, опредилено нужно написать хоть один коммент на этом же языке :) Greeting from Russia !

massive respect to ed sheeran for saying he is second to beatles.
I may have
A long time ago, BUT I AM HERE NOW! YOU KNOW WHERE MY DOOR IS AND IT IS OPEN AS IS MY HEART. REXANNE SANG THIS FOR HER CHOIR SOLO . . . RANDOM IRRELEVANT RAILROADER REMEMBRANCE . . . IMAGINE THAT! ❤❤ WILL I ALWAYS HAVE TO SAY I LOVE YOU IN A SONG ON A STARRY STARRY NIGHT 🌃 ?
a slighty underrated movie directed by the director behind the best movie ever made, danny boyle
I just cannot Imagine a world without the Beatles.
Beatles is my father and uncles. Favorite band..
Kurt Cobain wrote “About a girl” when he was 20, after listening to Hard days Night on repeat, The Beatles have influenced some truly great artists.
And also Cobain.
I've not seen the film, but have ruined it for myself by watching many clips. Ed Sheeran comes across beautifully. His song fragment, in this segment, is astonishing. And yet, the structure of the film requires him to be placed, as everyone must, as a subordinate voice in the chorus led by the Beatles. He does this with humility and grace. He lifts up the Beatles.
Such a great premise of a movie. From 1 day to the next a really big artist is forgottor to everyone, but 1 person.
3:49 Who's Mozart?
Tardian
I had to look up the movie synopsis, so now I understand the “what”, but I still don’t understand the “why”.
... watch it
Because it's a heartwarming fun little film with great music
Maybe you should watch the movie then…
It's one of those movies that doesn't need a serious analysis - just a nice, feel good journey with some great music.
The Lennon scene is the only why I need
Not available in Netflix Australia. not even in youtube movies
Amo esta película
Esa es la distancia que existe entre la música de los Beatles y todo lo que se hizo antes y después
