    Diana Rigg was one of the few actresses at the time who could do action scenes and hold her own (thanks in large part to her three years as Emma Peel on "The Avengers").

    Most realistic of the action endings. You can really get into the logistical efforts to fly those choppers at altitude drop the team and succeed. Has a bit of cinema verité falir to it too. Machine guns have a different, lower pitched sound. Even as a kid I thought this was the baddest ass assault in the Bond Universe. The jumper from the chopper goes headfirst on purpose!

    • @KyoukiJuuno
      @KyoukiJuuno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's not "just" Lazenby. The plot of this one has been constructed around Bond falling in love, for which he had to appear more fragile and weak than ever before, especially during his escape from Piz Gloria and the subsequent chase through the nearby villages. This feels a bit alienating and drags on for a good bit, which for me I find it kills the mood midway through the movie.
      On top the conclusion of the movie isn't really satisfying. Bond loses for the first time, I could be okay with that but not in this one as it was totally avoidable. Had Bond taken the time to make sure Blofeld was dead after the bobsled chase, and he should know to do that as the veteran secret agent he is, the movie could have ended differently. Even had Blofeld not been found Bond would have known to stay careful and maybe not have a public wedding sometime soon. Instead he gives his arch nemesis a chance to get away and a chance to exact revenge - two mistakes in a row. Duh. This would indeed never have happened to the other fella.
      This all feels a bit too much constructed just to get to a bad ending and not enough like a logical flow of events.

    For 1969, Blofeld's plan was terrifying. We had something similar happen naturally in the early 2000s. There was an outbreak of FMDV in the UK that spread across continental Europe. The disease didn't kill any livestock directly, but it injured them so badly and spread so quickly that the outbreak ended with the culling of hundreds of millions of cattle, swine, goats, and sheep, and cost the EU in total something around 10 billion dollars of lost revenues simply because of the number of animals infected and then killed.

Also Oliver Reed was considered, a lot of people think he would have been an excellent Bond, it was his drinking and divorce from his first wife that stop him being chosen 😒.

Like "Oh, hello, James! Been about ten years! Come here - my boss wants a talk with you and he's not taking 'no' for an answer." Why are George Lazenby like Thimothy Dalton not too much appreciated by the public (but loved by the fans) ?
    Just because "it takes three films for an actor to be accepted as James Bond by the audience *" and the only two who haven't made three films are George Lazenby and Timothy Dalton.
    * quote from producer Albert R. Broccoli.

    If the Bond movies are supposed to form a continuity, then how was it that Blofled did not recognize Bond immediately upon meeting him in his office Piz Gloria after their encounter in Japan in "You Only Live Twice"?

    • @historybuff66
      @historybuff66 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because the film is a highly faithful adaptation of the Fleming novel which precedes YOLT in book publication order. YOLT should have been produced after OHMSS , which was the original intention.

      Connery should have been here, and in ''Diamonds'' as a revenge film. His last Bond film in ''Live and Let Die'' in 1972 for the celebration ten years Bond films. He would end in Jamaica, where he started ten years before.

    I do think ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE is an underrated movie and one of the best in the series, but I have never liked how they use the Bond theme in this scene. It seems a bit out of place.

They are for entertainment, and he entertained me. If you were disappointed, then you either need to lower your standards or move on to material with more teeth in it. But as a self-proclaimed "expert" in acting you don't impress me much, to paraphrase Shania Twain.
