- Welcome back to another episode of Jives Fishing! In this video, we caught a relatively big stingray (weighing about 14 kg) and other fishes such as spanish flag snapper (ti mun), russel's snapper (Ang zho kee) and marine catfish (jahan) while surfcasting at Bedok Jetty, East Coast Park. The stingray is a mangrove whipray which is currently not an endangered species, so we kept it to eat. Cheers and have a good week everyone!

What bait u use at bedok jetty? And where did you bought your kelong sotong? Better to go at night or morning?

If your setup is heavy enough, try pumping it up. If not just wait it out no choice

hey bro not trying to be rude in anyway but the mangrove whipray is classified as vulnerable under the ICUN red list so isn’t it better if you guys released the ray just my thought…. nice catch btw

Hi! Good question. Mangrove whiprays are indeed classified as vulnerable, however looking at the criterias for classification - criteria b (restricted range), we notice it is still abundant in certain parts of its range eg Australia, so we still take since its a rare occasion and it is of harvesting size, but others like whitespotted whipray which is endangered and shovelnose which is Critically endangered, we dont harvest.

Are stingrays really tasty. I wonder cos if not cook with curry or lots of sambal. Is not really good I Thot.
Give you one good recipe..
1. Marinate with tamarind with salt and leave it overnight..
2. Cook till it is crispy blackish in color.. then serve.. eat with cincalok douse with chilli padi and lime...

We usually cook them by baking them with sambal chilli wrapped in banana leaf and aluminium foil :)) alternatively can try curry/asam pedas!
