My mother almost died from a UTI (and mental Delirium) after her elderly male family doctor stopped her HRT. Now she has a vegetable in a wheelchair. The new geriatrician has agreed to put her on prescription Vagifem to reduce the chance that she’ll get another devastating UTI infection. It’s horrible to think that there are older women out there dying from UTIs, due to not being put on preventative vaginal estrogen medication.

These estrogen prescriptions are $500 for 3 months, and insurance won't cover much or any of it. It's ridiculously overpriced. Luckily I have an HRA account through my employer that covers it, but most people do not. Estrogen does NOT cost that much. It's only because people are too embarrassed to fight for lower costs of this medication, and pharmaceutical companies know that so can charge exorbitant prices. The pharmacy is always shocked at the cost when I need a refill. We in the U.S. suffer with a patriarchal society where men's sexual needs (ED) are covered fully and cheap, but for women who have painful sex - who cares?

I had this happen to me after my hysterectomy last year. I had my ovaries removed at 41. I got reoccurring UTI’s and I was miserable. I tried a naturopath for the first year after, but I needed the estrogen. It was like the sky parted and the sun was shining again. I’m on divigel and a small amount of vaginal Premarin . Thank you, Dr. Northrup. This is very helpful. I've got your books and tried to follow many of your suggestions. The problem is often consulting our health care providers. Even faced with information, such as you provide, there is a wall. Peri-menopause was so challenging. My gynecologists (two over the years in the same clinic) have not been helpful, nor has my GP. It's taken until now, that I am in "official" menopause and have done so much research over the years that I am starting to get somewhere with a naturopath and a new gynecologist who didn't need a referral from my GP.

@@chenalpatel6041 I can answer for you - yes it does - I suffered burning and problems passing urine - sometimes an infection as we get so dry down there and thin-skinned, sometimes no infection. Everything cleared up in 2 weeks! I had burning when I passed urine, especially towards the end, terrible burning, and a feeling of heaviness, and general discomfort. Very tender down there. Back to 90-95% normal now. My female urologist also put me on Hiprex which is an antibacterial tablet - can get it without a prescription in some countries - which helps reduce the bacteria whilst the hormonal treatment starts working.

I am more for doing everything as close to Natural as possible! I don't want HRT due to the fact of "C". Which No one wants!!!
I'm going through alot of changes myself. I'm post menopause 5yrs ++.
For the last 6 months; I've had UTI's and and figured out that what I have is V.A. (Vaginal Atrophy) & some Prolapse Issues and/or not bad as of yet! Been doing research for the Prolapse and Surgery is NOT recommended!!! Regardless of what we've been lead to belive. Doing special type kegels and/or exercise or buying a small home personal use machine. Haven't figured this out yet. But working through it. There's lots of channels that suggest what to do.
I started using a Natural Wild Yam = progesterone cream & also a vulva cream (with Wild Yam). DO NOT Use Virigin Coconut Oil... it's good if in a bind... the only reason why it's not suggesting this is because Coconut Oil is antibacterial; therefore after a long use..... it'll affect the PH in your V.
Still having UTI' but feeling a little bit better as far as moisture.
For the UTI, the best defense is the Kyolic Garlic TABLETS not the pills! This is a Game Changer!!! It helps with the UTI'S! But, you must make sure you're using a moisture for your private part!
And taking Seabuckthorn supplement pills for aiding and help with moisture (plant omega pills too).
Read an article about how Japanese women don't have these issues (V.A.) We do because we don't get enough estrogen (we dont need that much!!! In Japan they eat Soy! But, NOT any type of soy; it must be OrGAnic & FERMENTED!!! (the soy we get here is loaded with GMO'S and NOT Fermented which is NOT good for us!!! Eating Natto is supposed to be the way to go! Again, I haven't gotten to try it yet. But, will be looking into it as well.
Please 🙏, if you can share any information on what you've done to heal... I would greatly appreciate it! As the Establishment doesn't want us Healthy; but rather sick and on meds!!!

It's good news to learn that vaginal atrophy is not the end of it! You exactly say, the dermis will "oestrogenise, cornefy" but what about other tissus in the body that let us down when oestrogen decline? Why there is no solution for women that experience very early thinning of the skin like dermoporosis? Extreme looseness of the skin (obviously it's the dermis or tge hyperdermis) even severe muscle loss while only on premenopause? Overthenight I found my boobs flaccid like women after they have breastfed I asked my gyno if there were something to do to restore and get them back to firmness, all I got was an explanation of how sometimes decrease in oestrogen thin tge layer of fat underneath the skin which gives its bouncy look and feel, but its a forever loss. Is it? Excuse my candid question but is there a way to "restore" the breast tissus and why not stop the thinning of other tissue? 🤔🙄😍

I’ve been sexless for about 5 years due to husband’s disease. Now a widow, but if I decide to remarry, I have to regain sexual life, now, at the age of 62. Never had HRT, or children, and everything is intact in my body. I may need doses of T, or estrogen,…
What is the best way to have sex without a man, just to practice?

Once menopause hits, your body stops making estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. You will have hormone deficiency - that impacts all areas of your body. You will have to use creams, pills, patches suppositories etc forever.

Dear Dr. Northrop I find it ridiculous that you believe that a vaginal moisturizer is going to fix or even help this condition. My Gyn said the same thing. Burning and irritation continued for 4 months and then 2 consecutive urinary tract infections. The second course of antibiotics caused extreme illness. Why do you like to dismiss this condo as being cured with a moisturizer? Is it because you are selling one? Advising a woman with this condition to simply use a moisturizer or lubricant and continue to have sex is horrible advice that will lead to permanent damage and life threatening infection.

    • @kkr5595

    • @elsagrace3893
      @elsagrace3893 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

@@kkr5595 it’s not “some” women. It is most women. Anyone who has gone to the doctor with a tiny little itch and a little bit of “maybe” more discomfort during sex may be helped by a moisturizer but most women do not go to the doctor for things they can handle on their own or for slight discomfort. We have busy lives. Bodily conditions change day to day in small ways. It’s few women who run to the doctor for this. By the time a woman comes to you for help it is a serious problem and you need to help her. It is also very obvious upon examination the severity of the case you are dealing with. Thin and dry vaginal skin in visibly apparent. You and others gynecologist are being negligent when you suggest moisturizer for such changes. These women WILL return shortly or seek care elsewhere for the repeated bladder infections due to your negligence. Not to mention the damage to their own micro biome from repeated doses of antibiotics.

There is no such thing as estrogen dominance. That is naturopath gobbledygook. In celibacy you are at risk of recurring UTIs which can become kidney infections. Constantly taking antibiotics. Your Dr. Is negligent to explain to you that HRT will correct all the vaginal and urinary tract problems and prevent heart attack, osteoporosis and Alzheimer’s. Relying on antibiotics to repeatedly treat a UTI leads to antibiotic resistance but the doctors do no care.
