I love that this is kind of just a sneaky way to credit the writers more openly. If I know anyone in the writers room of any other show, it's because I know them from somewhere else. But I heard "traffic yam" and immediately went "that's Brian".
Brian and Ally are masters of puns. Most of Brian's "bad" jokes are really good and make me audibly lol. Matt is just amazing with his jokes that make the audience go, "AAAAHHOOOOO." He FEEDS off of the anger/confusion of the crowd and it's hilariously done.
It's also giving a lot of the audience (at least the TH-cam audience) what they want. I think they realised we like getting little peaks behind the curtain during the pandemic and so have kept giving us them.
True. It's gotten to a point where most of us can hear a groan-inducing joke that makes us feel uncomfortable for find it genuinely funny and instantly go, "yep, that's Scollins".
It is kind of cool that I'm starting to recognise each writers style from these, i'm like "oh Brian, before the picture even comes up. Also, Matt is on a Scollins-like chase for the biggest oooh these days. That sexy-ass photo is going to his head. You gotta get him in a tank-top before he gets too big for his britches.
Well, Seth has been known to bend the truth, or totally make up stuff, for the sake of a joke, so I wouldn't credit the network with mandating Scollins Alerts until I hear it at a stockholders meeting. To which I am not invited, but you get my point. 🙂
Waited my whole life for someone to make fun of the fact that a national airline has the word "Lingus", right there, in their name... And I think Matt cracked it!
While I'm all for globally crushing the gap between Latio and Lingus, I got way too hung up on the Dublin - Nashville part and how that relates to either of those. So I have to give that point to Seth in that it distracted too much from the actual joke.
That last joke is why this segment is so great. They can air jokes that would never fly in the straight monologue. There's some shenanigan genius behind this bit and Jokes Seth Can't Tell.
3:22 the termite man is here as I’m watching… we both laughed out loud at the Airlatio joke… a lil uncomfortable cause we’re strangers but I feel we got closer today…😅
Minor correction: The bugle call used for Surprise Inspection is "Assembly" and is used to call the troops to assemble in a designated place. This is correct to start the segment, but you play the sequence once and it should be played twice. You use the same bugle call for the end of Surprise Inspection which is incorrect. You should play "Recall" which signals the end of the drill.
@ I’m a new Jackal who only recently finished watching all of the Corrections episodes. This is my first correction and I didn’t want to be presumptuous.
@1:18 I KNEW IT! As soon as the joke ended in a pun, I knew from previous Surprise Inspection segments that my #1 guess for who it was should be Brian, with #2 being the writer who is best friends with Brian (forget his name)
Seth - you HAVE to make this a regular segment of you show! I'm still laughing through my tears...😂🤣😂 I know you have made many of them before, but as often as "A Closer Look." Maybe just before or after A Closer Look??
Anyone else getting pretty good at predicting who wrote each joke? I can tell a Scollins joke a mile away & I have a pretty good sense of a Brian joke. Ally's the wild card.
While the Aer Lingus joke wasn't First Class, it would have been more of a Sleeper if Seth had been Coached. As it stands it's not Redeye for prime time, but that's show Business.
The last time there was a dead dog joke on surprise inspection, I was shocked and disappointed that it wasn't Scollins. I'm glad he didn't disappoint this time.
I love how scollins has become this force of nature that needs a full on advanced warning system in his quest to see just how dark he can get a joke and still have it be read on air.
Love how Seth mentions the writers don’t know this section is coming, and never will, only to proceed to tell stories about the writers coming up with things for the segment #Corrections
Minor correction: while true, Seth's rejects tend to end up in the monologue and then he has to inspect himself while surprised in front of an audience, so one could argue he experiences the true surprise inspections.
Pst, Audio, your time to shine: Overlap a mix of Scollins' dog joke groan with Matts' Cereal joke response, for a sample track for remixes and haunted house soundtracks.
This is one of the best ones!! Matt, Scollins, Biran, are the best/worst at this segment :) i love that Seth is kind of making his writers recognizable:)

Same - knew right away. Such a fun way to interact with fans.
Easily my favorite comment this week. Thank you.

Scollins always delivers. Might not be what you wanted, but it is delivered.
"It is delivered." Is such a Scollins line.
He writes the best jokes.
And we found out what happens when Matt tries to out-Scollins Scollins.
I love him!
The best part about this is the closed caption "[groaning continues]" at 6:00 on the Scollins joke. It's like Seth is writing the closed captions.
The traffic yam joke was brilliant
It was very 'sweet' 😂
@@jasonjohnson4803 taro-iffic!
He really loves his staff
Seth’s delivery is just as funny 😂 one of my fav segments
Especially on the last joke. 😂
His delivery is what, for me, makes this one of the best Surprise Inspections ever. 😃
Traffic yam is beautifully stupid, and I love it. That and the Jolene joke were the best ones.
How you take the scraps from the cutting room floor and weave them into pure comedy gold.
This is the real “weave”. 🤣
It is kind of cool that I'm starting to recognise each writers style from these, i'm like "oh Brian, before the picture even comes up. Yeah, I wonder if Matt is angling to get on Surprise Inspection. I feel like I would be. More power to them all!
On point! 😂
CORRECTION: the traffic yam joke was worth every penny
Yes, all fifty of them.
These segments are always as funny as those jokes that make the A grade
Thank you all
This is one of my favorite segments, I wish they did it more often. I mean they definitely have enough jokes! Twice a month maybe?
That Serial Sexual Assault joke was a banger.
I want to thumbs up this comment. But with 69 upvotes I just can’t
@@CordeliaRavenwood You can now.. someone else already busted it
The Scollins chocolate joke was the best one.
I dunno, the Catholic priests one was up there, too.
Dead dog and pervy priest jokes? That's our Scollins!
The fact that the higher ups at NBC have actively asked Seth to warn people of an impending Scollins' joke is just brilliant!
Well, Seth has been known to bend the truth, or totally make up stuff, for the sake of a joke, so I wouldn't credit the network with mandating Scollins Alerts until I hear it at a stockholders meeting. To which I am not invited, but you get my point. 🙂
@@sherinameless1618- fair point. I would love to be a fly on that wall, if such a discussion happened though!
@sherinameless1618 lol, if you asked the higher-ups about Surprise Inspection they'd probably ask what it is.
@@jvissers3086 “Sorry, Seth who? Does he still work for us?” - a shareholder, probably.
The higher ups at NBC are less likely to watch Surprise Inspection than the writers, who do not watch Surprise Inspection.
I was shocked that the Aer Lingus joke was not Scollins! Matt? Really?? 😂
Same!
Scollins is rubbing off on him. That’s about the effect of a bad (or good) influence you filthy-minded lot.
And it was pretty fantastic
Waited my whole life for someone to make fun of the fact that a national airline has the word "Lingus", right there, in their name... And I think Matt cracked it!

There's a SNL skit about it
th-cam.com/video/tJIz-XNLEn8/w-d-xo.html
This has been a running joke on TV forever.
The fact that the explicit in-flight movie set up didn't result in an Aer Latio callback just felt wrong.
Man, hot crowd for this segment!
That last joke is why this segment is so great. They can air jokes that would never fly in the straight monologue. There's some shenanigan genius behind this bit and Jokes Seth Can't Tell.
Brian really ran the full range of "dad joke" to "Scollins joke" this week
I laughed at the "yam" joke twice. The first time for the joke, and the second time at myself for laughing at it.
3:22 the termite man is here as I’m watching… we both laughed out loud at the Airlatio joke… a lil uncomfortable cause we’re strangers but I feel we got closer today…😅
How did he feel about the termite mound joke
Matt on fire this inspection
Seth wishes
"Mad about it together" might be the best description ever.
I loved all of Brian's jokes!
Minor correction:
The bugle call used for Surprise Inspection is "Assembly" and is used to call the troops to assemble in a designated place. This is correct to start the segment, but you play the sequence once and it should be played twice.
You use the same bugle call for the end of Surprise Inspection which is incorrect. You should play "Recall" which signals the end of the drill.
I never thought I'd see a Jackal acknowledge that a correction could be minor.
@ I’m a new Jackal who only recently finished watching all of the Corrections episodes. This is my first correction and I didn’t want to be presumptuous.
the air latio joke was hilarious as hell i almost choked on my own spit.
thanks Seth and Crew
@1:18 I KNEW IT! As soon as the joke ended in a pun, I knew from previous Surprise Inspection segments that my #1 guess for who it was should be Brian, with #2 being the writer who is best friends with Brian (forget his name)
Ian is his bff
This segment is simply genius. Love ya, writers!
Probably my favorite skit from Seth & crew.
Best segment! Thanks for highlighting the writers!!!
Please never, ever stop doing Surprise Inspection.
both the Scollins jokes were excellent
I really liked the closing joke by Brian.
Seth - you HAVE to make this a regular segment of you show! I'm still laughing through my tears...😂🤣😂 I know you have made many of them before, but as often as "A Closer Look." Maybe just before or after A Closer Look??
Any joke is funny with Seth's set up and delivery!
So many perfect jokes, I love that you show off your writers real talents in these.
Saving this to watch it with my daughters. We love this segment.
I laughed out loud at the dog/chocolate joke. It is tied with the cereal sexual assault joke for my favorite joke of the segment
In some VERY ODD WAY they are all .... interesting - and worth telling in this segment - keep up the creativity writers!
Okay, Seth. The time has come.
Have your writers choose the one joke they collectively love that you kiboshed.
Even the usual known intro to this segment makes me laugh 😂❤😂❤
Anyone else getting pretty good at predicting who wrote each joke? I can tell a Scollins joke a mile away & I have a pretty good sense of a Brian joke. Ally's the wild card.
I love surprise inspections. I haven’t see a graphics one in awhile. ❤
"Traffic yams" is a great dad joke!
I think the traffic yam and square orange F jokes are gold
Good morning seth meyers fans
damn this was the best surprise inspection yet!
While the Aer Lingus joke wasn't First Class, it would have been more of a Sleeper if Seth had been Coached. As it stands it's not Redeye for prime time, but that's show Business.
I like how Scollins' picture looks like he's reacting to seeing his jokes called out on Surprise Inspection 😅
I saved this for post-election blues. Thank you, it worked!
My writer crush on Matt is alive and thriving after that serial joke
Both scollins jokes were winners
I genuinely loved Brian's jokes!
My favorite segment of seths show
The last time there was a dead dog joke on surprise inspection, I was shocked and disappointed that it wasn't Scollins. I'm glad he didn't disappoint this time.
I love when he does this.
I love how scollins has become this force of nature that needs a full on advanced warning system in his quest to see just how dark he can get a joke and still have it be read on air.
“Serving” food-based comedy was the best joke of the segment 😂
I'm a simple man, I see Matt Golditch in the thumbnail, I click.
Love how Seth mentions the writers don’t know this section is coming, and never will, only to proceed to tell stories about the writers coming up with things for the segment #Corrections
The best recurring segment in late night.
I would think that Seth also writes jokes for the monologue, I noticed none of his rejects ever makes Surprise Inspection.
Minor correction: while true, Seth's rejects tend to end up in the monologue and then he has to inspect himself while surprised in front of an audience, so one could argue he experiences the true surprise inspections.
I love this skit
I loved the square orange f...er joke!
Love when we get to the end and Scollins just dominates the last 3 minutes
❤❤❤❤🎉Seth fans
4:04 this is the highlight
5:25 ooh, “the exits are located here, here and here” must’ve been diverting…
one of the best surprise inspections ever
the safety video joke was legitimately good
As usual, all of the Scollins jokes are actually keepers.
Brian’s jokes were gold!
Brian is actually hilarious
Always funny 😂
God, I love Scollins' jokes. 🤣
LOVE MATT…..my daughter went to HS with him!
I kept waiting for Scollins and I was not disappointed.
The fact that the corporate whigs call for a disclaimer for Scollins jokes proves his genius.
The McDonald's joke actually made me laugh. I must be in a dumb mood.😆
Brian has the best dad jokes. I always feel a kinship to him
Seth should do this every other day.
Pst, Audio, your time to shine: Overlap a mix of Scollins' dog joke groan with Matts' Cereal joke response, for a sample track for remixes and haunted house soundtracks.
I knew immediately who the traffic yam joke was.
I'm sorry, but the air-laccio joke did make me LOL. 😮😁 The trump joke was pretty wicked. Keep up the good work! 😅😅😂😂
This is a good case study of context.
The last one was excellent, it just needed the added drama and storytelling.
that cheez-it joke is a solid 9/10
THANK YOU for saying "route" like 'root' and not 'rout'.
Up until 5:30 I was a bit worried that Scollins might have left the show leaving Matt to try and fill his shoes
I like the airline one LOL (And others)
I am sure this has been said before, it is true genius to transform actually bad jokes into comic genius by having a segment on bad jokes.
This is one of the best ones!! Matt, Scollins, Biran, are the best/worst at this segment :) i love that Seth is kind of making his writers recognizable:)
Hopefully there are more food options on the Aer Lingus flights, although Aer Latio is great if you’re a fan of sausage.
Scollins doesn't abort. He always delivers
I loved the traffic yam and Helene jokes.
Good morning 😃 😊
This is my favorite segments especially being a military man.
