The WWII really damaged Japan economically as the rest of the world. Many of the items were very limited in supply, therefore lots of "black market" vendors popped up, especially with U.S. food items. Japan was already quite prosperous before the war, but right after, they were in deep trouble but recovered quickly later due to hard working and dedicated citizens willing to improve their living standard.
Daisy Wong Who could stop China from developing? China has made capitalistic economic reforms since the 80s and is developing mainly because of this. China can't militarily take over the world, what do you mean? The US has nukes to blow up all of us several times.
Daisy Wong Napoleon was surely a threat to other nations. The US can't contain China in a sense that China's development will stop. No way is that possible.
@array s The film was most definitely restored, there's no doubt about that. However, the original film had to have been in very good condition. All restoration does is clean up the film so it looks as good or close to how it originally looked. If this film was shown in theatres back in the 40's, this is how it would have looked, probably even better. Film has insane quality to it. Many old films are being scanned in 4K because that's how much detail and information can be pulled from 35 mm film.

From around 1950. There are American cars and US military vehicles on the streets. Also, the streets have been paved, and the street car rails installed. It is of Occupied Japan era. See the jeep at 3:28!
It was post-war Japan, most probably between 1946 and early 1950s, as there was American jeep on the road.
