    I must point out that Fiore could very well might have drawn this himself. In the Getty manuscript, Fiore writes "Of which all things I write and I will draw in this book...". While that could be him simply stating his authorship in another way and not his actual hand in the work, it is preceded by him saying that he knows how to read, write and draw, but he is not a perfect master in this art. I wager this is him being somewhat modest, as he is in many different parts. He is writing to important people, so he wants to remain humble.

      It could be indeed, they are two rather valid point. Where to stand is definitely a personal choise. I stand open to both. :)

      Fiore wrote one and let someone else copy it later?

    Very nice work you did here my friend.
    And I’m impressed with your rich and very well expressed English.
    As a combat shooting instructor, I usually feels confident as a peacock walking in the streets of New York, awaiting any troublemaker to try something illegal... but now that I’m thinking of it, I’m really depending on my sophisticated weapon to save me, and if it fails, I’m in a big shock and surprise.
    I need to learn and implement work with a blade, that almost never fail.
    Thank you very much!!

    Just getting into HEMA and really enjoying Metatron's earlier stuff, I agree that there should be more views for this, I would love to see an updated video expanding on what he has learnt since this video.

    This video is awesome, I used to practice in a club that base all the techniques in his work so all I know about this is what he left for us and is cool to know about him.

    Maybe some additions to the development of Sport fencing: The first change was the popularity of rapiers due to better steal and a change in military tactics. Swords where no longer a batle field weapon making leading to different weapons of war and for "civilian usage". The rapier is a civilian weapon. From there the next step was going away from a real self defense weapon to a ritualized dueling weapon (small sword), wich then became a sport.

    • @vold2268
      @vold2268 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1 handed sword were not main battlefield weapon because of they weakness against armor.The main weapon were polearm.The 1 handed sword was either a sidearm or a civilian weapon because of his size but also because of it's effectiveness against unarmored foes.

    Ti scrivo in italiano metatron! Sono da qualche anno nel mondo della rievocazione storica e il Flos Duellatorum é la più importante fonte di informazioni che solitamente viene usata. Un bellissimo video complimenti! 😉 p.s. è un vero peccato che sia così difficile trovare scuole di hema...

    Any comment about the German masters? I have digital copy of Talhoffer. It is an amzing book, but many images are somehow odd, for instance swords with spiked pommels.

    • @metatronyt
      @metatronyt  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I will look into many other manuscripts and review them so I will also have a look at the German master eventually :) Thanks

    • @Sfourtytwo
      @Sfourtytwo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Talhoffer is seen by many as cryptic and useless. For longsword google Wiktenauer and look for Sigmund Schining ein Ringeck or Pseudo-Peter von Danzig. You will find german stuff on everything on Wiktenauer

    • @Wolfenkuni
      @Wolfenkuni 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      edi It is belived that Talhofer intentionally wrote in a way that you need extra explanation (by him) to understand the techniques and tricks he shows. His job was it to fight and to teach so the books where advertisement and a study guide but not meant to work by them selfs.

    Ahhh ecco, almeno adesso si sa di dove sei. Ma tutto questo inglese esibito ed usato... non è meglio esportare l'italiano? Se no, studiamo l'antica Roma ma non capiamo niente di come diventarono grandi se assumiamo in tutto usi, costumi e lingua dei barbari.
