What eat alot of these old brick stacks was the sulpher from burning coal.At the top of the chimey as the updraft cools quickly that soot condensates around the inside.Over the years it destroys the mortar and becomes "rotten".Beautifull structures not only to produce a good draft but a sign of wealth and power.They were built from the inside out.
Cool video, was born and bred in Halifax, my grandmother lived near there and told us as kids that a princess lived on the top of there, 30 odd years ive wanted to see what the top looked like. Kudos to you, and thanks mate!

Nice clip👍 I've been watching a load of Fred Dibnah videos of late and I wonder what he would make of this ability to see up close without having to ladder up a chimney to survey it 😄
I believe inspections of structures cannot be done my remote cameras. Fred even today would have to climb up and look at it with his own eyes. at least its that way in north america
@@bill6255 In the UK some steeplejacks use them for a preliminary inspection to give them a rough idea of what the condition is. There is no substitute though for poking and prodding so the ladders and/or scaffolding go up soon after.

Thanks, at the time of filming this, I had the xaomi mi 4k drone, I've since upgraded to dji mavic pro 4k drone, I will, at some point replicate this video on a brighter less rainy day with my upgraded equipment
