@@bleedinghartdove i also happen to be a sound designer. if possible or if you want to, could you please get them to contact me so i could make tracks, chase themes, or sfx and whatever?
This mod definitely nailed the jumpscare and terror that you get when the monster initially chases you, but the fact that it's so easy to frequently get spammed by loud noises and clones of the monster easily overexposes you to all of its elements, so you have literally no time to be scared because you're getting frustrated by the constant running/stillness you have to do, not to mention following the directions doesn't even work. According to the mod author, you should try staying silent even when you're helpless, but it's hard to do that if the monster ignores its programming and hits you anyway, forcing you to no longer be silent. There's little to no buildup or ambiance, so it's just the jumpscares/chase sequence. Throw in the fact that the author literally used the nun massacre chase effect removes the immersion and reminds you of another horror game (also I didn't see the credits on the mod page, so plagarism?!?). Luckily this is still the beta, so the full release will hopefully address these problems. Edit: I don’t want to give criticism without suggestions on improvements, on the off chance that the creator of this mod sees this comment. First off, there should only be able to be one monster at once. More clones = more exposure = less scary over time. Secondly, the spawning should be way less strict. I think that if you make too much noise (which should be redefined; the video pointed out many instances of this) for a LONG period of time, not just once, then the hallucinations start, and gradually build up the longer you go without being silent. This way the ambience and terror will start to set in as it’s the player who is making this creature angry, not the creature just randomly popping up whenever it feels like. The suspense can be increased by unfamiliar sounds, but there should be at least 10 of them. The goatman only has like 4 and they play so often that you’ve already heard all of them before you’ve even spent 2 minutes in your world. Unfamiliarity breeds terror. I liked how in the trailers you could see the monster staring at you from afar, but I didn’t see that anywhere in this video. You have to warn the player that there is an awakened monster and that it’s watching you, not just throw it in their face. Sure, those 15 seconds of jumps are and chase are extremely horrifying, but once it’s over the player immediately becomes more immune. You want to give the player time to get scared of what the monster could be before you let it loose.
Message to all horror mod creators: please replace earrape compilation with fast heavy footstep sounds with occasional scream when monster is chasing you, thank you

The Silence has some promising aspects (it has great buildup by the video tape at the start and the idea of having to be quiet) but unfortunately it suffers a lot from earrape jumpscares that are too frequent, the fact that by having to be as quiet as possible you aren't even allowed to y'know, play minecraft normally. Its funny how it takes from nun massacre and boisvert (both of which are ACTUALLY scary) even though both of them are the complete opposite of "the silence". The fact that I can recognize some art from Boisvert and a Nun Massacre chase sound makes this mod a bit less scary than mose Minecraft horror mods for me, mostly because I've already been desensitized to the chase music and pictures from watching/playing them enough. However, I can appreciate what it's trying to do at the beginning, with the audio of somebody talking to you and warning you. I'd say it's on the same level as most mods. Not as scary, but the effort to differientiate itself makes up for it a little.

@@official_meelees CRT is a type of monitor or television screen, VHS is a type of data storage mainly used for video format. CRT screens display what's on the VHS tape to give an example.
The loud sounds are actually from a game called _Nun Massacre,_ another game that does this stupid earrape thing but it also gives the player time to breathe between each scare.
Even being lazy as the creator was, there could've been way better improvements. For starters as pointed out by civilly and palpers, the moment just spawns whenever and attacks when it wants no matter the recommendation. You can check if the player is currently running, mining, or other activities, and if certain circumstances are met then it spawns, the way it works here is just too loose and it seems like it spawns whenever, even while the player is completely still. To change that check if the player is running for an extended period of time and be on a tick counter / percentage where the longer the player runs the more likely it will spawn. This wouldn't even be hard for the creator to implement due to the fact that they already know how to check if the player is in certain conditions we can tell with the text being shown while someone is in the water. There the spawning mechanism is already improved. Then the monsters mechanics, there's already a vanilla mob that has a similar function being aggrieved by noises; the warden. Using / being inspired by how the warden operates by checking if the player around it is being noisy with stuff such as sprinting, block placing, eating, jumping, ect.. If a player around the mob does this then it'll go after the player, and this is where the crouching / standing still feature actually gets in play, it'll be easier for the player to actually attempt and play instead of being bombarded. Third, making the monsters progressive, at the start the player should be given a grace period to do everything that they need to in a normal play through, after that the monster gets progressively more aggressive, and this shouldn't be overtime but it could go with two categories of factors: advancements and the amount of noise being made, the noise is straight forward more noise means better chance of it being spawned, but with the advancements it would be more complicated. With milestone advancements such as "iron Man", "ice bucket Challenge", or diamonds!", ect the stats on the monsters could increase to keep a fresh experience keeping the monster a threat and not an early game misdemeanor. Fourth improvement, getting rid of the overly aggressive png images, the loud noises, and the instantaneous bombardment of its presence, as a horror mod, it lacks at doing its job.. It starts off by making itself immediately known, this introduces the player to the threat and makes it a lot less scary, typically fear of the unknown is one of the most important factors to something being actually scary and this mod lacks that, losing a major components to being scary. If something is going to be shown consistently to the player make it subtle and do it right, for example the way a herobrine mod would work, introducing herobrine to th player consistently yet subtly. The storytelling aspect is also lackluster, it leaves th player wondering what they're doing wrong when they're sure they listened closely to the instructions, being more clear on how it works would improve this dramatically. This had much potential but the executive was poor.
Some really good points but its quite hard to read cuz you didnt separate the parts like.... This!!!! making it easier to read and people can actually repond instend of saying the annoying frase of "I Aint REadInG alL thaT" Considering their attention span
The fact that this mod can be beat with just a simple thing: Going under water. This is by far the most poorly coded mod I’ve ever laid my eyes upon. -Ridiculous spawn rates -Loud sounds that can make you go deaf, or break your sound system (yes, this actually damaged my headphones because I dared to have the freaking master volume at 40) -zero breaks in between -poorly coded system so literally ANYTHING you do can get it to come after you -Impossible to kill And so much more. The Silence is such an interesting concept, I hope for it to be someone like A Quiet Place but no, it’s just annoying and makes you get angry because it unfairly kills you and then just completely destroys your progress. And don’t even get me started on that stupid asf monologue at the start explaining how to play the freaking game. If your game cannot articulate itself well enough for the players to actually figure out how to play the damn game, to the point you need someone to explain the entire lore to you, then start from scratch lmao
You know what would be good? An actual horror mod that has the enemy stalk you from far ranges like From the Fog, then comes at you with no loud audio but instead relies on footsteps that sound the same as player's. And don't forget the fact it can hide in darkness and it won't jumpscare you, it runs at normal player speed and can break blocks, killing it will just make it stop for a night (good luck about that though), and it will randomly make you paranoid by walking around your base and opening doors. It will also camp dark corners, and not just dark caves. It will also make hallucinations (fake footstep sounds, fake sightings and fake run-ins). And like FtF it has multiple skins That way it is actually a threat, keeping you on your toes.
I swear I heard a bit of the nun massacre jumpscare right at the first seizure Edit: yeah this mod just stole that entire jumpscare sound sequence, except it’s a lot more obnoxious and less effective because it happens every five seconds
There's 3 types of scares these simple mods can offer. 0 - I don't count this one. Flashing an image or going "Boo" with no consequence. 1 - Creature goes AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and runs at you 2 - Creature DASHES in at MACH SPEED with UNAVOIDABLE DEATH (see Example 0 but you die) 3 - Creature is silent, looks unnerving, and will creep up to you to scare you by you turning and seeing it in your peripheral before making a scene (you need to make this scene at best and worst, the Cave Dweller's footsteps but maybe quieter) Type 3 is what we all want. Type 1 is what everyone makes. Type 2 is pretty good ngl, but it's just a REALLY effective jumpscare. Lastly, it doesn't matter HOW good/bad the Types are, all are tools, and they will catch fire and burn into a smoldering pile of crap if you overuse them.
I feel like they should've added something like a silent period where any and all ambient noises (unless you're in a cave) and all mobs stop making sound, as a way to warn you to not make a lot of noise and if possible any noise at all, then when this silent period ends, everything goes back to normal instead of always being at your neck and making survival basically movement russian roulette. Also make it so that it also attacks other mobs instead of only the player, makes it more realistic and adds a sense of it actually being a horror entity that kills all that makes sounds and not only the player.
i had one of your videos show up on my recommended the other day and i honestly love your content. you (and palpers, i guess) are very entertaining, you have a new follower from now :)

It can't be that hard to make horror without an emphasis on making people get epileptic seizures or break their ear drums. It's no longer scary, just annoying and a bit of a health issue.
Probably cuz it's hard to make a game that's blocks scary 💀💀 idk tho

this mod is like STOP!!!! STOP MOVING!!!!!! and then as soon as you do it's like RUN!!!!! wait a damn minute WHY ARE YOU RUNNING??? STOPPPP!!!!! RUN!!!!!! STOP RUNNING!!!!!!!!
The mechanics are red light green light, I think. That game kids play, where you run when told and then have to stop, then have to run.
@@Mr-Meadows
Interesting concept but from what we’ve seem in the video, the mechanic barely works. Most of the time, the monster in the mod just ignores everything.
The mod says “Stay Still” -> Still gets attack
The mod says “Run” -> Being chased while still getting attacked
Now the mod says “Stay Still” after the “Run” Sequence -> Still gets attacked
"Stay still" meant the players were supposed to crouch, not literally just "stand", I have played this mod too, it needs a bit more reworking and the concept is really good so 80/💯
@@wasique0026 it's just a bit stupid that it doesn't explain clearly that the mechanic isn't actually to stop moving but rather to crouch

This mod has the chance to be very good with some fixes. One of the main problems being how easy it is to make noise, and the fact that staying still doesn't seem to do work correctly.

Also One of the png's is from the boisvert yt channel, & I'm pretty sure they don't have the right to that either
why did you write a whole essay
I also hate cheap scares
I feel like horror loses its horror when you have no breathing room between monster in counters.
Random PNG jump scares doesn't scare me if I played this, and this just loses the eeriness and the chills, just not my type of horror mod
Message to all horror mod creators: please replace earrape compilation with fast heavy footstep sounds with occasional scream when monster is chasing you, thank you

The nun is a figment of your imagination of your grief over sending your child away to a religious boarding school. The nun is overbearing and violent since that's how you feel about yourself, and you try to pin those attributes to a fictional nun to reduce the blame against yourself.

nah ts was actually funny asf😭watching palpers tweak out over the million silences completely unaware they were being summoned🤣
You can't even go into water without the mod telling you to get out of it. It had great ideas but at the end of the day the execution turned it into another earrape horror dweller mod except it has a couple quirks because why not?
Of course it being in Beta has to be considered but it needs a change in direction in order to actually be good and interesting.
4:45 literally nun massacre chase soundeffects look it up xD
I also recognised it lol
Yea
Yeah it's a really good horror game Markiplier played it
I immediately recognized it lol. There's also a picture from the TH-cam channel/horror series Boisvert.
Its funny how it takes from nun massacre and boisvert (both of which are ACTUALLY scary) even though both of them are the complete opposite of "the silence". The boisvert video is really quiet and the only noise besides the calm piano is a distorted noise, and nun massacre is really ambient when you're not getting chased by the nun. But "the silence" is always noisy 24/7 💀💀
The mod being called The Silence is a reference to the fact that the monster is very quiet and hard to hear
For something called The Silence, it sure has the worst sound design i've seen in a horror mod yet.
@@LucasMiddleNameandLastname22 that's because the screeching yelling noise when it chases you is stolen audio from "Nun massacre" (an actually good game)
@@Fieldperson Just saw a playthrough of it, and honestly that makes it even worse, how do you take a sound from another game entirely that actually manages to use it properly and yet completely butcher the sound's purpose?
@@LucasMiddleNameandLastname22 Exactly the Nun is so fast, that the chase sound being loud is DRILLED into the player's head and is then learned to mean "Run the fuck away and leave at all costs" espically considering the nun can wait to ambush you.

this mod actually makes the dweller mods look like the greatest mods to ever exist, this mod is so unbelievably garbage, it just constantly spams you with unavoidable shit, png jumpscares, and loud noises, you literally cant even play the game, its just sensory overload, its annoying and frustrating

Love how honest he is in the intro 😂😂😂
This!!!!
making it easier to read and people can actually repond instend of saying the annoying frase of
"I Aint REadInG alL thaT"
Considering their attention span
do people really think that extremely loud constant sounds would equal scary?
The fact that this mod can be beat with just a simple thing:
Going under water.
This is by far the most poorly coded mod I’ve ever laid my eyes upon.
-Ridiculous spawn rates
-Loud sounds that can make you go deaf, or break your sound system (yes, this actually damaged my headphones because I dared to have the freaking master volume at 40)
-zero breaks in between
-poorly coded system so literally ANYTHING you do can get it to come after you
-Impossible to kill
And so much more.
It's so funny how the mod tells you to stand still, and then immediately tells you to run for no reason
BEST video so far. I have never laughted that much in my life. Thank you Vivilly for doing such a great work.
skill issue is my favorite phrase now
Probably one of your guys funniest videos. The best part was when Palpers absolutely lost it after you kept spawning them
“Make as little noise as possible, it can hear you”
*FULL SPRINTS IN SNOW*
And like FtF it has multiple skins
That way it is actually a threat, keeping you on your toes.
I swear I heard a bit of the nun massacre jumpscare right at the first seizure
Edit: yeah this mod just stole that entire jumpscare sound sequence, except it’s a lot more obnoxious and less effective because it happens every five seconds

12:04 the final look at you before getting flung 😭
15:43 this looks like an anime scene LMAOO
7:15 the slow turn to stare into your soul before giving chase to your friend lmao
There's 3 types of scares these simple mods can offer.
0 - I don't count this one. Flashing an image or going "Boo" with no consequence.
1 - Creature goes AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and runs at you
2 - Creature DASHES in at MACH SPEED with UNAVOIDABLE DEATH (see Example 0 but you die)
3 - Creature is silent, looks unnerving, and will creep up to you to scare you by you turning and seeing it in your peripheral before making a scene (you need to make this scene at best and worst, the Cave Dweller's footsteps but maybe quieter)
Type 3 is what we all want.
This mod is not even terrifying, it's just annoying with all the flashy imagery and just noises with volume maxxed out to the fucking moon
Also make it so that it also attacks other mobs instead of only the player, makes it more realistic and adds a sense of it actually being a horror entity that kills all that makes sounds and not only the player.
i swear to god if Vivilly makes ONE more dweller video WITHOUT Palpers imma lose my mind
