  • As a follow up to my last video ( • PDQ Laserwash G5-s wit... , Today, I'm back at the Spot Free Car Wash in San Antonio TX (on loop 1604 access road just after Braun rd) just near Helotes that houses 2 Laserwash G5s systems paired with older LaserDri dryers originally designed for a Laserwash 4000. This wash has been in service for over 20 years, and has been refurbished a few times over the years, as you can see by the updated signage inside the wash bay, which btw, this was the first of the 2 G5's to get the updated signage in the bay some time ago. I do believe the 2 systems were likely special ordered back in the day with LaserDri dryers, rather than with the standard Max Air dryers (my guess for why the owner did this option was that they liked how the LaserDri dryers actually moved side to side, rather than the Max Air's which are just static). Despite the fact G5's weren't really known to be the best Laserwash systems in the world (even I admit, even the 4000 predecessor was a better system than these), this actually did much better than I expected to. Just like the G5 in the left bay, I did buy the top dollar wash package, which at the time was $14 (a bit high for a G5 by today's standards), and as far as wash quality goes, I would rate this a 6/10, undercarriage wash went good (complete with the rotating wheel blasters added on some time during its lifespan), both presoak passes were good (not as good as the left bay last time I went), all the zero degree nozzles on the wash arm rotate as they should (though it did seem like a couple were sticking a few times) and thankfully, unlike the left bay, this one didn't seem to have any pressure pump problems, tri-foam coverage was pretty good, and like the other G5, I do like how the system is programed to incorporate the high pressure rinse cycle through the wash arm for the 2 surface protection cycles, though I don't understand why it still uses the high pressure cycle for the spot free rinse cycles (that seems to be a thing with a lot of the G5's for some reason), but at least the system moves a bit faster for that cycle, now the LaserDri dryers in this bay did leave a lot to be desired, as the nozzles were no longer rotating, though both blowers did seem to be working, but for whatever reason, the lower cover was missing (my guess is that the owner of the car wash was in the middle of trying to fix the motor for the dryers that allows the nozzles to rotate). I hope you enjoy the video and stay tuned for more car wash videos to come.

This one did a good job especially with the triple foam and im guessing the part that makes the nozzles move must be either disabled or broken

Oh yes, especially in proper working condition. These are becoming about as rare as the Laserwash 4000. In fact, I remember when these were EVERYWHERE, especially at HEB grocery stores, and every Valero Corner Store and even survived into Circle K's ownership.

I think these are rarer than 4000s, because I've found quite a few 4000s still running and I still see them every once in a while. I haven't seen a single G5 except the one place I've filmed a G5.
