The Mirage rally cars are so cool. It's a shame they don't have a road-going homologation version of the regular Mirage with wide fenders and more performance

Finally someone who knows how to film racing cars, without that constant zooooom on the car alone. Cool car, professional filming. Very enjoyable

@@ivlark1 just take as much of the interior out as you can and get some basic, good quality coil overs to just make it handle better and be safer and it’d probably be pretty fun to be honest. I work for a rental company and I always love driving the mirages

It would honestly be friggin sweet if Mitsubishi decided to offer up a performance version of the normal road car.. turbo the 3a92 engine, offer a dual clutch or 6 speed manual and optional AWD and the brakes and suspension to back it up.. 200 HP in one of these little cars would turn it into an absolute SCREAMER..

Update, Mitsubishi Motors North America has suddenly decided to get rid of the manual transmission option in the 2023 and up Mitsubishi mirage! Personally, they have officially pissed me off and while I might buy a manual car that is still in stock at some dealership somewhere, I won't be buying another car from them until Mitsubishi comes to its senses.
I want a stick shift in my car.
      No ifs ands or buts.
Tired of this stupid bullshit where every manufacturer wants to put some God forsaken POS CVT in every vehicle!

@@fadingbeleifs The CVT's perfectly suited to a car like the Mirage. Any bigger than that and they tend to shit the bed a lot more tho.

Mitsubishi should just return to the WRC already, the last evo was too big to be a rally car, I honestly feel like the evo X was a modern Galant vr4, the evos were originally small nimble rockets, like the mirage in this video.

You know, you ain't half wrong about that.. I mean it would make sense that the 1.3L non Turbo car does literally weigh about the same as a Honda fit from the early 2000's and of they actually put a better I-4 with a turbo, (I'm thinking more along the lines of the 4G15 1.5L single cam from the Colt CZT turbo from Japan) then this thing could destroy a lot of fat heavy cars from today! Plus I think it would do even better with or without the AWD system that the Evo's and Eclipses came with.

    • @StefanBacon
      @StefanBacon 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It also used to be super common to find awd variants of Japanese subcompacts and light cars. It's not as if Mitsubishi lacks experience with that...

@@StefanBacon come to think of it, Mexico and the US are the only two places that consistently have bought Mirages over the last 5 years with the US averaging around 22k a year for the last 3 till 2018 so it doesn't seem too far fetched tbh.. name the specific sporty model something like: The “Mitsubiahi Mirage MZ-R” or something to that degree, almost like a play on the “Colt CZ-T” as well lol..

The evo 8, 9 and 10 were never meant to be wrc cars.
The Cedia was a WRC car, negating a need to build homologation specials because of WRC rules as opposed to Group A rules. The 8, 9 and 10 were done for the sake of the evolution name.
Even if there were a Mirage WRC... the chance of getting a road going version that's even remotely similar to the WRC car would be... 0
And the chance of a sporty turbo fwd rocket mirage would be slim too... because aside from you, me and maybe... a few girls... who would really want a turbo fwd mirage hot hatch?
Like, if it's not going to be any better than a Civic Type R, A Hyundai or a Golf... why would you want it?
Would u want it if, it clocked a faster time than a Civic Type R around Nurburgring?
Would you be willing to spend the 50K?

I agree. Was at FIA WRC USA two weeks ago in Austin. Was sad to not see MMC represented in any way. The new dominant FIA specs for RX are smaller engine, lighter chassis cars. Hence the R5. We've got Mirages everywhere in the US, just no one willing enough to take on a Mitsubishi build.
Nonetheless, it's really sad that Mitsubishi fans have only two builders who work on Mitsubishis these days within the RX scene. What's even more sad is with the company still committing more of the same mistakes they've been making for over two decades, I doubt that they have enough capital to get back to the Motorsports scene anytime soon.
Not even with WRC coming to Hokkaido in 2019.

Sounds like you need to swap out the 3 bang with a 4G36 engine: engineswapdepot.com/?p=23070 I'm guessing you have to do significant work to force that engine into the vehicle. Not sure what effect that has on the street legality of the vehicle.
