Brandi is an American treasure that is obscure. She dropped out of high school because she knew what she wanted to do and that is perform! Even today she plays for inmates in female prisons, High Schools, anywhere that will have her! The accolades are all nice, but for her ir is all about bringing a little joy into peoples lives! She is so happy and content with her life, she doesn't chase fame. Quite a remarkable woman!
@@sharondianneb Probably, IMO, the best she has ever sung that song. It was so emotional and she owned the audience that evening. As well as owning us.
You know a song is good when you watch people listening to it for the first time. Brandi has a beautiful voice that soars through a chorus. Just wonderful.
You have to see the Grammy performance. She kills it. This song gives me goosebumps, makes me cry... Shades of #metoo #blacklivesmatter #pride just so damn good.
I’ve seen Brandi in concert half a dozen times over the last fifteen years. The first was a free set a state fair, the most recent at a sold-out arena. She is the real thing.
Recently come back to Brandi Carlile and I love her artistry. I enjoy how she has this amazing voice but never sacrifices herself for trends even though she, herself, evolves over time. A true gem!
Beautiful reaction to an amazing song. She's a STAR. Had done collabs with Joni Mitchell and others. Sings with Barry Gibb, on his solo album Greenfields.
First saw and heard of Brandi probably close to 20 years ago now. She was the opener for either Lucinda Williams or Indigo Girls (both of whom you should react to). Anyway I was immediately impressed with her and knew she would be on the scene for a long time to come. However, on this song, she has taken her artistry to a whole other level. Best word to describe it is transcendent. Thanks guys for reacting to it. ✌👏
I have only seen/heard Brandi Carlisle sing a John Prine cover as a tribute. Wow, she has some pipes, eh? I'm gonna have to dig more into her music. ✌✌
@@ReactionsToTheClassics People were suicidal said this song saved their lives. Brandi feels this song is a success because the boy who inspired who to write it found out that was the case and he came out and his life changed for the better as a result. She told an interviewer if the song did nothing else, that was enough for her.
One more note: Find Brandi covering Elton John's underrated classic MADMAN ACROSS THE WATER. You will be glad you did and can thank me later. Peace out gentlemen. ✌
The musicianship in Brandi's cover of Madman is outstanding, To play that song at that level everyone needs to know everyone's parts. If one person misses, the song is screwed.
Watch her live on Grammy performance and she how powerful hee voice. Gheck out the movie Joe Bell srarring Mark Whalbergabd the track plays at end and the song and the movie were a perfect match.
We react to the version the Patron wants. And live performances are overwhelmingly not the best the great majority of time. Now that might be different with Brandi and of course there are artists better live but most are absolutely not
Wow, thanks gents, and thanks Jacob, Brandi was not on my radar at all, but this was fantastic. I see it was co-produced by Dave Cobb who's done some great albums with Rival Sons and Europe, which all adds up to me also needing to check this album out at some point!
she was on Howard.. she had great tribute to John Prine. like Melissa etheridge🌈 she's seen through all the gay bashers and keeps moving forward fantastic artist with a great head on her shoulders.
Party of One is my favorite song on that album and the video gives me chills (I’m not a huge fan of the version including Sam Smith though). I also recommend checking out her newest project/collaboration The Highwomen.
Let us know in the comments your reaction to the album, because it is incredible from eginning to end. It's hard to even pick a favorite track. In interviews she says the theme of the record is 'radical forgiveness,' which is all over it. She's also known for giving it 120% in the vocals live in concert, and this album she specifically brought that raw intensity into the recording room, as you can tell from this one song in the recording room.
Welcome to the greatness that is Brandi Carlile. Music's best kept secret. I saw her in concert last year at Madison Square Garden. She is legit. The highlight for me was Mainstream Kid th-cam.com/video/TxPCozqkSvc/w-d-xo.html
Agreed. Lucky for her that she is well known in certain musical circles and draws very well on her concert tours. There are quite a few acts that I like that make a good living but have almost no major commercial success. Jason Isbell and The War on Drugs come to mind.
Those 2 are great examples. Really like The War On Drugs I picked them high on our album draft series. Isbell is one of my very faves, was my 2nd most listened to artist last year on Spotify. Seeing him in concert in a couple of months!
lol these are always one of my fave lol comments. You giving out a lot of perfect 10's on FIRST listen to songs Nicole? Because if you are you may need to re-evaluate that.
@@ReactionsToTheClassics you may need to re-evaluate why you’d imagine I give out 10s with regularity on a first listen. I clearly said this as in this song.

Yes. Her best performance ever.

She has some great songs but her latest album which this song is taken from is superb.
I love when she goes to the Washington Correction Center and sings "The Mother." I also love the official video for "The Eye."
