      Rasmus98 I think what balance this high ISO is the shutter speed, so it don't get a lot of noise. Hope you're getting great shots.

    Hello Ricky
    I liked your videos and the photos but I don't if I got everything, my english is not so good yet, I live in Los Angeles and I like to travel some times to enjoy the nature and I like take picture also but I just have my cell phone and a Gopro, now I'd like to invest some money in a camera, could you help with it? could you recommend a good camera with a good price ( I mean less than 1000 dollar if possible) good for nature and astrophotography, I saw some models like Canon EOS SL2 DSLR 18 - 55 and 75 - 300 and others similar, some people say to buy mirroless and others says DSLR honestly I have no idea, I've been looking for cameras ( searching in the internet )for the last two weeks and now I'm so confused.
    thanks in advance

      Walter Queiroz of course. So a lot of new cameras have come out since I released this video. Tons of things have changed as well. I would recommend you spend less on your camera body and more on your lenses. Try to go for a Canon Rebel series (price ranges anywhere between $400 and $650) and then spend the rest on some Sigma lenses or Tamron. Then once you can save up more to replace your camera body, you will have two cameras at that point. When you do make the upgrade, look at the Canon 6D mk ii. It’s an entry level full frame and it will allow you to capture certain things that the crop sensor of the Rebel won’t let you capture.

    I am an aspiring photographer and I shoot on a canon rebel t5 and when I use the settings of 18mm, f/3.5, 20s, and an Iso of 3200 the picture turns out way over exposed and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong please help if you can

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Cody Mierau hm...if you're out in the country or just somewhere dark (no light pollution, no moonlight at all) then that should work just fine. Try dropping your ISO 1600. You really just have to learn your camera and find out what works best for it by testing the settings. Make those minor adjustments (ISO, shutter speed and exposure) until the picture looks fine. Get back with me to let me know how it turned out! 👍

The 18-55mm lense is the kit lense that came with my rebel XTI lol but what lense would you recommend for Astro photography? Noob question but hopefully I’ll be more pro by the end of the year!

    I set my 70d to these exact settings but for some reason I can’t get the camera to release the shutter, just keep getting a flashing “ExpSIM” indicator. Tried nudging all settings up and down a little but camera’s still not playing nice. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but after a 45 minute drive and frozen fingers I’ll have to try again another day. Still super stoked though 😊

    Great turnout! I took my first shot at astrophotography just a few hours ago. I'm using a 600D/T3i and I thought my 50mm f/1.8 would yield better photos considering the lower aperture, but my 18-55mm kit lens was hands down much better. Can't wait to try out a 10-18mm wide angle.

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Zachary Abella yeah it seems in most cases, when people are starting out they find themselves having to decide between have a wide field of view or a low aperture. The f/1.8 will show a ton more stars but because it's only a 50mm, that means you won't see much of the sky, especially on a crop sensor camera like the T3i. On the other hand, the 18-55mm allows you to see more landscape but won't see as many stars due to its f/3.5 aperture. I finally saved up for the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 and it is phenomenal. Sees a lot of the sky and stars.
      Well hey I'm glad you decided to give astrophotography a try! Good luck to you in the future!

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, your English is great! The lens is going to matter a little more than your camera. If you get a full frame camera, then look into the Sigma Art 20mm f/1.4 lens. It’s amazing and will show a lot of stars. Now make sure the camera is a full frame camera. So something like a Canon 6D or a Canon RP, Sony a7ii.
      There’s a ton of option but you’ll need to make sure you purchase the lens with the corresponding mount for your camera.

    Hi I had a Canon Rebel t3, I love astronomy and I need to upgrade my camera, Which one is better for this, Canon 80d or Nikon d7200? (I want to take shot of milky way)

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RSI Geek World well, I have all Canon gear and haven’t shot much with a Nikon. I know that the D7200 is great for long exposures. They are also both crop sensor cameras so you could always look at the Canon 6D which is full frame and allows you to take longer photos for night photography. It’s all preference really. If you already have a Canon, you might stick with the brand so you don’t have to retrain your muscle memory since Nikons are a little different in the way they feel in your hand.

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! Make sure you are shooting in manual mode. If you are using the Canon kit lens like I was, the lowest aperture your camera will go to is f/3.5 but only if the lens is zoomed out all the way. It is not a fixed aperture like some of the more expensive lenses. If you are shooting with the setting I talk about in this video then you will have no problem capturing stars.

  • @allanmurray4156
    @allanmurray4156 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve recently purchased the ioptron skytracker pro and I’m wondering whether the kit lens that came with my canon 200d will be able to capture the Milkyway without the blurring and star trails.

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know what the ioptron ST does but I’ve never used one myself. However, it should allow you to get some beautiful star captures even with a kit lens. You could shoot a photo of the sky for 5 minutes, meaning you could keep your ISO way down, giving you a much cleaner photo. Then, just take a picture of the foreground and mask it in through photoshop. Also, just go mess with it and figure it out and then make a video so others can see how you do it!! I’d watch that video!

    Hi great video, I'm looking to get into astrophotography but as a complete newbie what camera and lens would you recommend ?

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know it is funny, I would have said a while back that the lens is the only thing that matters when getting astrophotography. which is true to an extent, however, with technology advancing ever so quickly, cameras are having a greater affect on the quality of the photos. For example the difference in noise between the Canon 5D mk. II, mk. III and mk. IV is insane. Noise (or image grain) is being reduced more and more with advancing cameras.With that said, if you want a Canon camera, I would go with the Canon 6D. It's a full frame which means that when you use a wide angle lens, it's going to stay at a wide angle allowing you to capture a lot of sky and landscape at the same time. If you wan a Nikon camera go with Nikon D810A, that lens was designed for astrophotography. If Sony, go with Sony a7s (this is the camera I ALMOST bought)For a lens, I would recommend any Rokinon that is wider than 24mm and that has an aperture of 2.8 or lower. Rokinon is cheap in price but great in quality. Good luck to you! I hope you love it which I think you will!

    • @Rogue66669
      @Rogue66669 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the quick response, those cameras you've mentioned are a bit above my budget, I'm thinking of a canon tbh just having trouble choosing one haha

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A 6D is one of the cheapest full frame cameras to choose from but a crop sensor camera can work as well and you can go with the Canon Rebel T3i - T6i. Those range from 400 to around 900 dollars. then there's the canon 80D that's around 1,000.

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely understand price. It's crazy. however, once you get a camera and learn how to use it, you can make money with it and start buying better gear. I actually had my whole family get together to buy me the 70D for my birthday. So it took like 10 people putting money together.

    • @Rogue66669

    Great vid. Trying to decide between 70D and 80D. Any opinions?

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sam Myer well, what made the 70D so innovative was the fact that you could touch the screen to get it to focus. So the differences between the 70D and 60D were much greater than between the 70D and 80D. Probably the biggest difference is going to be that the 80D has. 24megapixel resolution whereas the 70D has. 20mp res. But then also, the 80D costs more. Both capture stars equally but like I said, you get a few more megapixels.

    • @RickyRyanRay
      @RickyRyanRay  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'd personally just save a little more and go with the 80D since it's the newest and offers just that little bit more.

      A cool trick with a cheap, light tripod, is hanging something heavy from the center of the tripod, anchoring on center. Works well if it's a bity windy. Too windy, and it'll flop the cam all over the place lol

      tamer sultan go on to Google and search "light pollution map." Make sure when you take your photo, you are outside of light pollution. Also make sure the moon is not out or that it is a new moon. You want the sky to be as dark as possible. That way you see more stars.
