Nonsense, you can get a top trim Cayman from 06-07 in great shape for $26-30,000. Not mention if you got kids you could get a Cayenne, the TDI version is actually a solid daily.
James Reeves’ personal channel is a channel for men’s content. Cars are a guy thing. What’s next on the docket? Explosives? Large hobby rockets? Knives? Survival techniques? Lego engines? Armored MMA? English War Bow? Moonshining?
James, as a sanctimonious boomer 1911 shooter and coincidentally a Porschephile, please allow me to congratulate you on your Porsche Enlightenment. The Greatest 911, the last air-cooled, the last REAL 911, and also the BEST. The 993 is it! Nothing like the snarl of an air cooled flat six Porsche engine in its high rev power curve. AND you bought it in the best and most proper color for a Porsche to boot! I will no longer be annoyed by your too-handsome face and too cute millennial shorts, or your lack of proper appreciation of revolvers and other old guns. I bet you pal Clint Smith is proud of you!
I've owned my 993 C2 for 15 years now, and even shipped it to Europe and back for a long vacation. It has been the most reliable car I have ever owned, and continues to put a smile on my face every time I drive it. Congratulations, and I hope you enjoy it in great health and for many years to come!
This is one of the most inspiring Porsche 993 videos I’ve ever seen. I own a 1995 993 for two years now. Have no complains, no crazy maintenance cost, just smiles and thumbs up from people when Im driving around.
Hey, I’ve been in the military for 20 years, love and own a 993, & no one at work knows. I don’t have it for that reason. I love the beautiful looks, high quality, analog everything, and working on it myself. Not all Porsche owners are arrogant, mean, selfish, etc, etc. Some just love the cars for what they are and what they were meant to do.
Well James, I think you just nailed it right there: 'The 993 is the Rolex Submariner of cars'! Cute observation, I have a 1996 Carrera AND a sub! Loving them both, they're icons. Still love my little F355 though...Cheers from a rather unseasonably hot Otford, Kent, UK.
My late father was a Porsche guy. When I was a little kid I would follow him around his garage while he built his own race cars from wrecked 911’s. He built 3 different race cars over the years and one of his fastest and best builds was from two wrecked 993’… one was crashed in the front and the other the rear. He basically cut the cars in half and welded the good halves back together. In his first race he rolled the cad about 8 times at about 120mph… juts to rebuild the car again lol. The second time he rebuilt it he didn’t cross the wiring for the ABS system (which was the cause of the roll over crash lol). When I got to be about 18 the 993 race car became my track car as dad had “graduated” to GT3 Cup cars. I have his first Porsche that he bought in my garage going through a mile restoration. It’s a 77’ euro spec that he bought while he lived in Germany for a few years. When he moved back home he imported the car to bring it with him (in about 1982, I was born in 85’).
The 993 (my bad, edit 996 changed to 993) is georgous and it is mechanically solid. Great purchase and I hate to admit it, but it suits you, short shorts and all. You will look like a damn movie star in that thing, pretty boy!
Welcome to the 993 owners club 👍 Glad you got a JDM car that wasn't a rust bucket. Mine is polar silver too but with the black and grey interior. Mine is a 6-spd and AWD. I had to have the AWD in a manual, period. So much fun doing low-medium speed high RPM drifts on super curvy mountain roads ❤❤ I love it when Varioram kicks in!!!
It’s interesting though that the 996 hit rock bottom before COVID and is now getting recognised as a classic. I think having the IMS failure reputation is a good thing because then only true enthusiasts will be interested in getting one as the last true analog 911 before the 997 was released. Most forget that the 997.1 also had the same engine issues with higher chances of bore scoring than the original 996
True about the Porsche... 993 is the king... but as a 90's kid I didn't like the Sammy Hagar comment. I grew up with Balance, F.U.C.*, 5150 and OU812. That was much better era for sure. Roth was always a clown to me. Cheers. 😁
993 was always my favorite 911, last of the air cooled Porsches, at the same time it's modern enough with its timeless body design, and much sexier than any of the previous 911s, huge improvement over 964.
Congrats, James. She's beautiful. I never owned a Porsche, but I did own two Audi's, my favorite being the S4 with the supercharged V6 and all the other bells and whistles on board. My current wife was afraid I'd kill myself in it after needed a new set of four after less than 22k miles, and yes, I rotated them as req'd. But man, I loved that ride.
Hey James, if you feel the need for modern entertainment conveniences on the 993, Porsche sells a head unit that looks just like the original one, they call it Porsche Classic Radio and it comes with Carplay, Android Auto and all that modern jazz. Touchscreen might be a little too small for everyone's taste, but it's better than slapping a big ol' touchscreen in there.
Hey, we can’t all be handsome rich chads with high video production, let’s raise up our James’ and beat down the people that are poorer and have less then us. We can do this bros !
I have a 1995 polar silver 968 cabriolet 6 speed that I daily drive and love. Your 993 is beautiful. Enjoy her and drive her as much as you can, it’s all about the experience. Nice choice.
Yeah, I've been looking for a '95 Carrera 2 manual coupe to customize (and hotrod). It's such a beautiful car, the perfect size, incredible driving dynamics that you can adjust to suit exactly your preferences...and the SOUND! No water jacketed engine can ever match the sound of those finned cylinders.
Da Phuck?? James everyone knows that Van Hagar was far better than Van Halen with David Lee Roth, however comma that said you are right that is one sweet Porsche 911 993. Simply a classic, great video as always keep your awesome work coming. (:
We share most of the same gun and car brand likes. I could not afford "air cooled" money back in 2020 so I ended up going with a 997. I also had a 1969 911 T 25 years ago as a teenager. It was just an old slow car back then.
James, absolutely awesome video! This vehicle content and in the past are very informative and entertaining. Would not mind more in the future. You have excellent taste in vehicles. .
Congrats, you have great taste in cars as well as guns! I feel like my 718 Cayman will be similarly looked on in the future as the last mid-engine Porsche with a stick, as they’ll be going fully electric next year. The 718 is small like 911’s used to be, and is a very mature model that’s had most of the kinks worked out, and you still get real buttons for everything, before they switched to glossy touch controls. Love it as a sports car, but I can’t deny the classic appeal of your 993. Welcome to the Porsche family!
If you don’t have 993 money I’d recommend the 981 Cayman/Boxster. They are the last car with N/A engines and 2/3 of the parts are from the 911. A pretty analog car and handles better than the 911. Bullet proof reliability and the maintenance is easy with a Quick Jack lift. Porsches are designed to be easy to work on once service panels are removed. The 981 has permanent drive axles and permanent timing chain. This year is major service year for mine. Plugs, oil, filter, PDK fluid, front rotors and pads. All this is only $500 and a day or so of wrenching. I buy my Mobil One oil from Walmart. Major service interval is 40,000 miles. You can get a S model of these (315/330 hp @ 3,100 lbs) with a few miles for less than 45,000 and they’re worth every penny.
You’re going to spark a major debate on the “best looking 911” comment. Plenty of smart people prefer the 930 Turbo, the 60’s 911 or the 997. That said, the debate is what makes it fun. Your car is gorgeous and the commentary is fantastic!
996 turbo looks better than the carrera. I’d love to buy a 993 but uhhhh, I’m poor 😅 The 996 is still “affordable” but sooner or later they’re going to appreciate.
Sick dude! I swore when I was younger that I’d never sell my s2000 until I could buy a 993, I now have 3 kids and no s2000…. Nor 993. I’ve been looking again the last few months and so this is kind of funny. I guess we all really do enjoy the same shit. Nice car man! Really nice score
The clean speedo/odometer gauge glass suggest that the odometer wheels have possibly been worked on or the glass was cleaned when and if the speedo was converted to from KPH to MPH. Another common issue the 993s have is the plastic gears on the odometer brake and stop counting miles/kilometers. Result of this is typically some unaccounted for distances covered. As you suggested, in Japan they are likely to have fixed it soon as the issue arrived. Here in Louisiana at least, I have seen them stationary for way longer than they should be. Either way, these cars love to be driven and do worse when sitting versus being driven. And they like to be driven HARD!
Congrats James. 993 is the best looking 911 to me. I would love to own one myself. It's on the podium of best looking Porsche along with 918 Spyder and 718 Spyder RS
I agree 100%, But it was a shook to see one of my go to gun guys buying my car. Like your taste in guns and cars now James have a good one. I have a 993RS I really look forward to driving.
A 993 would be nice, being a Gun Nut, Porsches and guns are in perfect alignment, I love guns and have three Porsches, 996 Turbo, 997 Cab, 958 Cayenne GTS. Guns & Porsches go hand in hand!
Love the car content. I'd still say the 964 is the one to get. I just can't get past the 993's streamlined headlights. 964's and earlier headlights protruded in a such a gorgeous way that was unmistakably porsche. I'll gladly take the extra 0.01 in drag coefficient for that. Anyway, enjoy the new rides and keep us updated on them!
Glad you are a Land Cruiser and P Car guy counselor! A legend of your prestige needs a classy 911 well done. If I graduate from being a poor I'll snag a Porsche. Be well excellent video.

Nicely said and congrats on the 993. I had a 993, now a late 964. Totally agree that the classic 911s are more engaging and simpler.
964 is my favorite in C4 form. 993 for Turbo!
I work for a corporate body shop. We had a 992 last week. Can’t believe how easy it was to get parts for and how easy it was to repair.
