    There is an ACM update that helps reduce that fault. It’s software level 7.61.1.0. All other power train modules will have to be updated as well to avoid configuration errors. With the after-treatment cold, check Nox sensor dew point hours under Actions->Aftertreatment->Nox sensor verification tab. Wait for dew point hours to populate (takes a couple seconds) if either sensor is over 8,000 hours, it’s a good idea to replace both of them.
    Great explanation. I hope my add on will help others

      @alreyindustries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’ve performed that update on several trucks and unfortunately I do not think it corrects the issue. The problem is not only with the heavy duty engines, but the medium duty engines as well.
      I’ve replaced basically every component in the after treatment system to no avail. The only thing that may have been successful was replacing the one box on a medium duty dd5. I did that recently but haven’t had the truck run enough to know if that corrected the problem.
      Maybe that will work on certain trucks, certainly worth a try, but in my experience it hasn’t corrected the issue.

    Thank you for uploading this video. I got the same issue, Both fault codes (520372-16 and 520371-16) popped up about 4600 miles after the DEP cleaning job (baked). I was going to take it back to the shop buy find your video and read all the comments. The following is what i did: 1, Run Nox sensor verification first. the result: pass. 2, Perform Parked SCR Efficiency Test, This test took about 2 hrs. I didn't finish this test, because the software was not responding at some point. I restart the program and ran it again (but I didn't finish the test, don't know what the end result looks like). The ASl: NH3 LARMF compensation factor value went from 0.74475 to 0.92993. Both fault codes went away when the value got to 0.92993. While it was running the Parked SCR Efficiency Test, both SCR Inlet Nox sensor and Outlet Nox sensor readings are around 380ppm and 0ppm ( I did see some -1,-2-3). the Nox conversion efficiency value is almost always at 1.0000. These are really weird fault codes. I just want to share my experience with others, I hope it will help others. As you said in the video, they will come back, Let's wait and see how soon it will come back, I will report back. Thanks! Be safe everyone.

    LARMF stands for lumped average of magnitude frequency, it’s an algorithm the acm uses by sampling frequencies to adjust def quantity dozed into scr to prevent ammonia slip. I have found several times that if you perform a def quantity test 3 times on the second or third time it will fail. Majority of the common failures happened on units with a poor duty cycle who travel through local city traffic with light loads, I always tell repeat failures to adjust routes to allow for longer drives and dog the truck when you can to help burn off soot loads

    • @Ocho-MIA
      @Ocho-MIA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would the quantity test fail after several tests? I thought it was a stationary test to check the condition of your DEF pump and DEF doser. If if fails then wouldn't that tell us in your specific case it's an issue with your DEF dosing system e.g. bad pump or harness?

    2 trucks came in today with the same issue. Your video helped alot. You should only need to do the scr once though. Did you check to see if the doser or the hole the doser goes into is plugged? Thats what happened to both trucks which messes with how the scr efficiency is calculated. I cleaned out both, ran a Def quantity test to make sure the doser was spraying afterwards. Then I did the scr test once on both trucks. The code went from active to permanent. At that point you wanna reprogram the ACM and the code will be completely gone.

    • @alreyindustries
      @alreyindustries  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve dealt with this code on numerous trucks and numerous platforms. Both heavy and medium duty Detroit engines. In the process I have replaced basically everything in the after treatment system and we have sent trucks to the dealership for them to diagnose.
      The trucks are converting NOX appropriately, that’s not the problem. The problem is with the amount of def being used to maintain conversion efficiency. It is outside the set parameters in the “closed loop system” which I think is what the NH3 levels are tracking and why the code is being thrown.
      My assumption is bad scr (one box) or detroit needs to come out with updated parameters, but I don’t know. This is the only thing that works, and the codes will keep coming back.

      Don’t waste your time or money replacing anything. It will not help. Unless there are other codes that are active.
      Simply clearing the codes will not continue to work either. You have to run the SCR test to raise the nh3 level. As long as you do that you should be good. I have not seen any shortened life spans to the one box or anything like that.

    Once the light comes on and the code comes back how long can you drive on it before it becomes a problem? When the truck does the auto regen while you're parked say on your 10-hour break does that bring the LARMF number up? I only ask because ever since winter time has come and I stop idling at night is when this problem started.. once the code is cleared it last anywhere from four days to a month before it will come back on

    • @alreyindustries
      @alreyindustries  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m not 100% on this, but from my experience, no. A regen normally does not bring the nh3 level up.
      On some applications the closed loop code will not derate. Meaning you could drive with the code active indefinitely, but you would have to call a service department with your vin and fault code number and ask them if the code you have will derate you or not.

  • @shonpjohn28
    @shonpjohn28 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Will it come back again. My 2018 Cascadia has the same issue. Mechanic advised that the onebox needs to be replaced as the SCR efficiency is low. The other option he suggested is to keep the NoX outlet hanging outside. What's your take on this. Given the market scenario I am less inclined to replace the Onebox.

    • @alreyindustries
      @alreyindustries  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The one box most likely does not need to be replaced. Leaving the nox sensor hanging out will not work. The nox sensor must reach a certain temperature in order to for it to start reading. If it does not reach that temperature it will not start reading and you will be shut down for a nox sensor code.
      If the two fault codes you are experiencing are scr closed loop and nox efficiency low moving average (something along those lines), the only advice I can give is do the procedure in this video. Make sure your computer software is up to date. I want to say that these codes should not derate, but I’m not sure if that is always the case.

      The best thing to do is run however many scr tests it takes to get the nh3 level up to at least .99-1.0. If you only get the level up to around .91, enough to clear the codes, they will usually come back much sooner than if you were to get the level up to .99-1.0. Hope that helps.

      @@jesselegz4312 why do you think that would help? Just curious. The reading that I’ve done on it, if I’m understanding correctly, states that the dosing is controlled by a closed loop system - meaning the feedback the ecm gets from the nox sensors determines how much def is dosed to control conversion efficiency.
      Conversion efficiency is never the problem. They are almost always converting appropriately. The problem is that too much def is being required according to the closed loop parameters in order to keep conversion where it should be. The nh3 levels are detecting the amount of ammonia or unused def that is coming out of the scr. Because excessive def is being required to control the system, the code for closed loop is thrown. The problem is, nothing seems to correct the problem. I’ve replaced basically everything in the after treatment system and nothing changes. I’m stumped. I think it is a programming issue or something but I am totally baffled as to why Detroit would not correct the programming issue if that’s all it was. 🤷🏻‍♂️ let me know if you figure anything out.

    I really wish that Detroit had implemented a function similar to Cummins' "Aftertreatment Maintenance - Reset All" feature. You still have to run the equivalent of the same tests with Cummins, but you wipe out the learned averages so you start with a clean slate and don't end up beating your head against the bricks repeatedly re-running the same test just to get a learned average above the minimum. So stupid.

      @@MANINDER0242 it varies I think. I’m not sure off the top of my head. Usually, the MIL will come on, the engine light that is just solid amber. After that is on for a certain amount of time, or another code is set, the CEL comes on.
