    I've had a phone call to say I've managed to secure my first allotment, which i'm over the moon about! Just found your channel and finding your videos on clearing the allotment extremely useful. Will be binge watching as much as I can.

    When we moved into our house I dug out the compost bin and found alot of garbage including Christmas lights. What are people thinking??? I like this new plot more than the old one and your neighbors seem nicer.

    That neighbor sounded friendly. But if any nasty ones come around just sigh and say “Oh man, don’t make me dig another hole!” Lol. That was one big hole, you could have put a Mini car in there.

    Hi Joe, you are working so hard .
    What a good idea about putting weeds,and rotten wood in a hole. I will be adding this to my helpful list.. keep up the good work. Take care . JJ.XX

    That was more of a garbage pile with a bit of organic waste mixed in than a compost pile. If plots could smile, this one would have the biggest grin ever now that you are caring for it.

    Cheering you on from across the pond. It is good to see all the hubbub behind you and you can finally "dig in" and begin creating. I really enjoyed this video. Positive vibes with this one.

    Yes Joe you need work boots! In that hole you should put some big branches in there to hold the water it will up take for many years afterwards! Great job Joe, you're a worker for sure!

    Thank you for the video!
    It is definitely a lot of work to get the plot set up. It is easy to get discouraged in the beginning, but just a few more days and it will look like a totally different piece of ground! Thank you for sharing your adventure on the new plot.

    Hi Joe. Watching you just made my back hurt even more then it does now. I'm so glad that you are in your happy place. There is a lot of work to getting a plot ready. I guess I was lucky that the two gardens we had where already & we didn't have to put a lot of work into them to get them ready. I wish I could do that kind of work now but I can't anymore. Just will do my waist high beds. Glad the weather has stop raining for now for you for now. Happy gardening. Della, Iowa, US. :) :)

    Hey, Ruby here in Alabama. I like your eye for detail, and persistence. That's the way I like my little garden. I couldn't handle a big garden like you do cause I've gotten older, and that seems to get in my way. Haha. This may sound crazy, but, I love seeing all those little seeds popping their heads up above the dirt trying to live and thrive. It's like the earth is giving birth to hundreds of little plants finally saying, WE MADE IT!! I take care of them, and they feed me. A good deal. Can't wait to see how you whip that spot of dirt into shape.

    Great progress Joe...when you were digging out the compost bin; ah man, I was getting so annoyed at the plastic..why on earth would someone do that?..so they’re trying to create lovely compost, but fill it full of plastic, that won’t degrade but will leach chemicals into the compost?!..it just beggars belief eh?...anyhow, it looks different class already mate, well done...cheers, Mark

    Joe, will the big hole thingy work for blackberry canes? I've just cleared my plot of a million blackberry bushes and dug the canes out and I just have them in a massive pile at the back, which is such a waste of space really. If I can bury them all really deep can I then plant over the top of them?

    • @pjd2709
      @pjd2709 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emma Bailey, I would becareful on those balckberries, they might send up shoots, I think I would put them into the burn pile, and or share them with fellow plot members, if they want new balckberry plants. Just a thought?

  • @emdobz
    @emdobz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Could you bury soil that’s infected with bindweed and brambles or would that still make it’s way up to the top?? We have a load of turf piled up and I’m not sure what we can do with it! ☹️

    • @diggingfordinner
      @diggingfordinner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Emma Dobson I would bury bindweed as it still grows as deep as three feet underground! Nightmare stuff as you know Emma. Burn it if you can separate it 🔥

  • @darenmiles3075

    is the burying weeds the same as the double dig idea ? :)

  • @izzywizzy2361
    @izzywizzy2361 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You certainly got a lot done in a short space of time, it has taken me weeks to clear half a neglected allotment, a little bit at a time, but the end result feels great 😊. So after all your digging and clearing do you intend to go no dig like your other plots?

    • @diggingfordinner
      @diggingfordinner  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Izzy Wizzy It’s hard work for sure but very rewarding, no dig is the way forward for me and my now three plots haha I was considering 50 / 50 no dig but I’ll decide for sure once it all been dug over so I can see what the soil is like over the entire plot. Keep at it Izzy
