Using the criteria of "most enjoyable" is a subjectively bias perspective for comparison, and as always Fenton, you took that into consideration with grace and humility.Well done! Obviously, Michael's Civic "Track"zilla was modded for greater performance, and that often comes with considerable sacrifice to comfort. With such a jump in track capability, it's very impressive that it retains so much civility on the street. The same can't be said for most modded cars, or reviewers. Thanks for another Sunday ride-along.
Come on, both are almost perfect, can’t go wrong with either! Great video
Facts
@@CruiseControl1 yeah its splitting hairs, down to personal preference. All I can say from my own personal experience is that the ITS is truly a spectacular driving experience no matter what. I’m sure the CTR feels that way too! Acura treated me like a king when I went through the purchase process - if they keep making vehicles this way I’ll be a lifelong customer. The ITS gives me pure unadulterated joy like I’ve never experienced before. And with only a few thousand in mods you can touch almost 400hp. Pretty high for FWD, but still. The handling is unmatched in any vehicle I’ve ever drive
That wing on the Type R looks horrible
I don’t think I will mod my FL5 nearly as much as ‘zilla’s owner has done. Because ‘sporty street’ is my use. Don’t get me wrong, Zilla is a great example of what can be achieved with the CTR/ITS platform. A platform that was properly engineered right from the beginning.
Shoutout gridzilla. Excited to see your impressions.
Thank u for saying the price of upgrades for less than 400 horsepower.
ugh that integra looks so good
Great video! The Type S actually has a K20C8 and the Type R has the K20C1
Good catch
Yes but it's the same engine the designation is just because the C1 is a world engine and the C8 is NA specific. They are identical otherwise.
Gridzilla be about ready to stomp the living s-t out of Tokyo. Or even Livermore. 😂
You mean Mexico
@@Zygrene😂
It’s flooding in Cali, but a new zygrene vid just dropped. 🔥🔥
Imagine living in California lol
I actually had same issue with engine noise not permeating loud enough into the cabin of my Porsche 992 S. I pulled a panel at the rear and took out some sound deadening foam and made considerable difference Maybe check underneath to see if you have anything similar on the firewall.
Great video as usual. The more Honda continues to advance the modern Type R and the more I fall I love with 20-year-old S2000s, I don’t feel the need to chase a Porsche anymore.
Yes I agree .
80 thousand dollar civic, wtf
Love my stock Type R but the Gridzilla build is nuts!
I wonder if the larger turbo, that might take longer to spool up and provide power accounts for that swell of power up around 4000 rpm you mentioned. I suppose it depends on what tracks you drive, but I would think that most people would prefer a smaller, quicker turbo for squirting out of turns, rather than waiting for a big boy to get moving?
Nice comparison. Nice to see you to collaborate. 👍
Seeing how you can swap the suspension modules from car to car not understanding all the which is better . Do you want the extras on the S ? If not get the R . The S even pulls a bit more out of the corners so no downgrade in perf . Pretty even guys .
As I've gotten older I've come to appreciate a comfortable ride and being able to have a phone conversation while on the road without yelling due to engine/exhaust noise. If I can have the more "refined" look/feel of the ITS while still maintaining the drive feel and fun factor, I'm picking that. Great video as always and looking forward to the next Track Day!
I feel the same way and I just picked up my ITS a few days ago... it's the perfect vehicle.
Does the ITS have the fake engine noise like in the FL5? The crap drove me nuts! I remember driving my FL5 home from the dealership wondering what was wrong with it, sounded like a wind up toy! 😂 first thing I did was unplug that crap. Baffles me as to why Honda would do such a thing?
a civic the size of a 5-series; what world are we living in?
no real man likes droopy butts... honda styling on these is questionable.
The Integra Type S has the K20C8, not the K20C1.
The only reason you wouldn't get an ITS is if you can't afford it
Can you do a video about what you do for track prep? I have a CTR and new to this stuff and really have no idea what Im doing when it comes to track prep.
I know you're not asking me...but I think most people say, the first and most important thing to do is to change your brake fluid to a variety that can handle the high temps of repeated laps of hard braking. Then they might say, change your brake pads (track pads can be squeaky/noise on the road so if this is your daily driver, be warned). Then they'll almost certainly say, change your tires. That said, it's not necessarily a terrible idea to start with "stock" tires, because the limits of what your car can do will be lower and frankly, "lower limits" are good for anyone who is new to track driving. Of course, the tire question depends a lot on what is currently on your car and how old/worn they are. If they are due for changing anyway, there are plenty of good sporty/street tires that will do double duty very well.
That wing on the R looks terrible! Yuck!
No way I'm parking in the Mud. 😂
I was gonna say too...why park there...everyone is truly different and you can tell who is ocd or not...screw that I ain't parking there either!
That crazy rich Asian money
Baxi’s car
How was type r torque steer with all that power?
Definitely apparent but still fairly easy to control
Only complaints I have is the Quality Control from Ohio plant...they sucks putting this car together...if you pay attention to the Panel Gaps, Exhaust Tip Gaps, Trunk, Hood, etc. It very disappointing! I feel American workers don't put Quality like Asians do. Don't get me wrong there are No perfect vehicles, even Made in Japan still have gaps etc. But, not as bad as coming from Ohio! Someone needs to get fired over there. I do plan to buy another Acura Integra Type S after they get things ironed out in the Ohio Plant! 😤😤😤
Haha same guy who blew up his turbo and blamed RV6 cuz he didn’t install right now goes to MHI
There's no chance that fl5 is only making 360whp. Especially with flex and a turbo upgrade lol
Like your reviews. Excellent commentary! Please get rid of those tacky air freshener things hanging from the mirror. They are distracting, If people have those types of things , it would be a good idea to remove that junk before the review so we can focus on your commentary and the driving.
Bro just give your Integra more power and you will be happy. Don't knock the civic. Love my LX-S accord
They look very good from some angles, very ugly from others. The mods definitely help in these regards. Modern Hondas, I guess.
TypeR all day everyday!
I wouldn't say the stock FL5 suspension is a 'mess'. It's a fine street car in comfort mode, R mode is definitely too stiff.
It rides firm, but in a good feeling way is the best way I can put it.
You would have absolutely bashed any donestic car that has a suspension that is not even nearly as stiff as rhe R you just tested.
You gave him a pass. Interesting.
I wished they would make some in AWD I wonder how good, bad, or even better it would be
I like the Integra Ohlins better for me fo daily driving use case
When people say power don't matter 😂
How many clicks from full stiff at front and rear of your Ohlins? I’ve had PS4S on a few cars and they are extremely sensitive to tire pressure. More front and less psi rear balances everything out for me. Wonder what pressure that Civic had.
10 front, 12 rear. Out of 20
Tu n'as pas de problème de chauffe sur circuit?.
Les fk8 et fl5 ont tendance à surchauffer en conduite intense
Wish we get Integra in Europe
Your teggy can easily keep up with a 458 around Thunderhill west, no small feat.
Stop calling it teggy...Gra Gra sounds better!
Why Kumos? For me I use continental extreme contact sport for daily driving, very nice confidence when driving in the rain. I find the Michelin pilot supersports is the best in driving feel, very sharp and instant turning. Only downfall i would say the tire does get hard below 15 degree Celsius. Any positive/negatives for the Kumos tire? Thanks
Kumho V730 is much better on track than the 2 you mentioned. Better steering feel, much higher peak grip, and won't overheat as quickly. While also being cheaper. Just not as good for street driving.
@@Zygrene thank you for the reply and info, I will try them out but why don’t you recommend them for street driving?
@@wildlifesports road noise, lack of wet grip, tramlining, etc. All typical characteristics of a track focused tire.
Type R.
Do you need to upgrade the fuel system to achieve 380 WHP on 93 with stock turbo on the FL5? I’m seeing mixed reports.
No
@@RobertoMezquiaJr good to hear. I’m after 270KW which is about 362hp at the wheels. Full bolt ons
@@Reptilianoverlord-jc8mt I'm on a tune which is rated at 379hp and 397tq on a hub dyno. Which is basically at the wheel. With just a tune. I also have a catless downpipe which probably gives me a few extra ponies. The turbo on these cars would max out before the fuel runs out but they both max out around the same power. So those two things will be my next major upgrade.
Look up @phearable
what shift knob is on the fl5
Its an aftermarket shift kit, I think its called the acuity hybrid shifter or something.
Mt. Hamilton?
All those mods and only 360hp? A MK8 Golf R will smoke this thing with less mods.
It’s a conservative tune not yet able to utilize all the mods because there isn’t flex fuel support from Hondata yet. Once that happens the car as is should easily hit 500whp.
@@GridZilla No it won't lol. Not unless fully built with big turbo. The MK8 with same mods will make more power and you have the far superior DSG and awd.
@@BryceCzirr-jz7ju it’s already been done by others my man. No need to build anything. Stock block on a Type R is good for about 600 ish whp
@@GridZilla Stock block EA888 is good for more than that.
@@BryceCzirr-jz7ju not really the point of this build. It’s not purely a dyno queen. Built more for laptimes.
Meh. Give me the ITS.
14:07 The stock Type R suspension "is a mess"? $80K into a Civic Type R? You can get an M3 for that kind of money.
I was thinking about that before but...we like fast cars that are cheaper to mod and most of all SAVES GAS! I had an M3 and that thing grinks gas!
And that civic will be able for your kids to drive to college. The Beemer with all the plastic hardening a bit more every year would cost a fortune to keep going .
@@gregblack8550 Yea, probably not. You're confusing the old NA pedestrian civics with a turbo charged performance car. Honda's aren't what they used to be.
Honda's are generally good cars, but they are not magical, and despite what some seem to believe, they don't defy the laws of physics.
good racing suspension should be better on bumpy road with same spring ratio compared to your ohlins, most probably the damping is not so good... or was setted to "hard" on "clicks", good suspension should copy all the imperfection make you feeling like you drive on "pillow"
ITS VS ITR....and the winner is.....Honda!!!! 🏆 🤌🙌❤️❤️
ACURA! 💪
You know the answer already. If it ain't a Type R it ain't a tight car
If it ain't a Type S, it ain't an understeering mess
Dumping so much dough on the FWD is insanity. And the fact that there are so many folks who are going this route explains why we deserve ridiculous price tags for enthusiastic cars.
"Honey, it's just a civic to drive to work" energy
based
I’m not a fan of front wheel drive, my next daily car will be an all wheel drive, nice video 😎
Car enthusiasts should just band together and stop buying FWD "performance" cars. It's oxymoronic.
why
Was going to get the type s but Definitely leaning towards the Honda type r. Looks a lot better imo
Looks like a mouse especially with the spoiler that doesn't match the car like the FK8
Very subjective. I got a DE5 because I think it looks light-years better than the FL5. But that's just me
