Shirley Bassey is a 1961 album by Shirley Bassey, her fifth studio album and her third with EMI/Columbia. Bassey was accompanied by Geoff Love and his orchestra and The Williams Singers (The Rita Williams Singers). The album spent eleven weeks on the charts, beginning in February 1962, and peaking at #14. This album was issued in mono and stereo. The stereo version of this album was released on CD in 1997 by EMI.

Till" is a popular song with music by Charles Danvers and English lyrics by Carl Sigman, released in January 1957 by Percy Faith. It was derived from the French song "Prière Sans Espoir", released in 1956 by Lucien Lupi on the EP L'Amour Viendra with original French lyrics written by Pierre Benoit Buisson. Italian singer Caterina Valente released a version in 1960 with lyrics by Gaiano

i was 5 years old when this song came out but i grew up listening to this and every other shirley bassey song because of my mum and dad who loved music thankfully, shirley was their favourite, we would play it on the radiogram every day i think i was one of her youngest fans, and i still love listening to dame shirley bassey xxxx

What a voice? This woman is one of the best voices of century ! An the Orchestra , was just immaculate , I can't get any better .
After Shirley received her first number 1 hit in 1958, the one thing she insisted on was to perform live and to record with full orchestra. I've seen this lady perform numerous times in the USA, and it was always with a great full orchestra. In the late 80's she did an album with electronics instead of an orchestra and the results were so bad she sued the producers to stop all sales of that product. She won, and she was right!

I always think that Shirley produced her best work under the direction of Geoff Love. He seemed to be able to bring out the best in her voice and during those years she recorded some of the finest songs of her career. Just listen to the way she hits those notes and the power she sustains while holding them.
Yes and those arrangements by Geoff Love were truly outstanding. Cry me a river is one of my all time favourites.

I live in Australia and watched the season final of "Call The Midwife" last night (25/03/2017) and wondering who was singing this as I hadn't realized the song was as old as it was I remember the Tom Jones and Dorothy Squires versions but had never heard the song before then. I thought it was Anne Shelton or a young Bassey. Nice recording and quite restrained for Dame Shirley.

Given "Midwife" was set in the 'sixties - that episode anyway (I've just seen it repeated 2022-6-26) - this 1961 SB recording was probably very right.

Btw the photo of her with Elvis reminded me that they both share the same birthdate....January 8th and so did my late cousin Ramona Brooks who has a self titled album you can also find on TH-cam. Interesting fact she was a background singer for Barry Manilow when he first hit the charts.
