I had to wait 53 years! After watching Neil Armstrong step out on the moon as a 5 year old, I became obsessed with my uncle's Speedmaster. I even entered a local radio station's "Wishing Well" competition. My name was called out and my father took me in to pick from the wishing well... and I won some soap. Throughout the years the Speedmaster appeared regularly on my Christmas list. 50 years after first wanting one, the mortgage was paid off, the kids had grown up and left home, and I was tired of studying for a PhD. I wanted to withdraw, but told myself if I got it done, I could buy myself one. And that is what I did! On the way in to pick up the Speedmaster, I realised the date was the 20th of July! A 3861 sapphir sandwich. I love the accuracy, I love the hacking, I love looking at the movement. But most of all I love looking at it and being reminded that a 5 year old boy was lucky enough to grow up to adulthood, get an education, raise a family, buy a home and eventually get the watch he wanted so much. How lucky am I!
Lovely story of perseverance. Congrats on sticking with it and completing the PhD! My 1861 speedy was gifted to me by my parents when I completed my (Mech Eng) PhD.
I got the Speedmaster from my dad. He bought it when I was born and gave it to me when I was 20. I'm 31 now and every time I check the time or hear them ticking, I think of my dad. I will never give them up because I will never get that one watch again.
As a dad of 3 sons and a watch collector I’ve bought 3 solid watches one being a speedy and all I can hope is that when my boys inherit my watches they hold Them as dearly in their hearts as you do buddy. Never let it go 🤙🏼
Was a space nerd as kid in the 80s and 90s. Bought it for myself when I passed the bar exam and became a lawyer. A major milestone in my life and the first expensive watch I ever had. As a son of immigrant parents I was the first in my family to go to university and become a lawyer so my folks were so immensely proud and happy. It always brings a smile to my face whenever I wind the watch. I got married last year and my wife bought me a Cartier Tank as a wedding present. Another major milestone. Hopefully my wife and I will have our first child soon and I will have another major milestone in my life and perhaps the final watch in my perfect 3 watch collection 😊
I bought mine 3 days ago, used, no papers, no box. I paid around 4000 usd, in perfect condition. It is the watch that comes to my mind, when someone mentions the word watch. After a long time, I made the decision, and I do not regret it.
Being a fan of NASA and the space program since I was a little kid in the 80’s, living in central Florida for 27 years and witnessing many launches, loving watches since I was a kid when I just had a cheap, plastic, digital Casio, and also being a very avid distance runner who loves going fast, it was my goal to get a Speedmaster Moon Watch in sapphire for 24 years. But deliberately to mark a specific moment; qualifying for the Boston Marathon with a time at another marathon that met their standards. This past October, after 24 years trying, 65 marathons over that time, a million personal struggles, and training every calendar day since September 4th, 2001, I finally achieved this. I didn’t even have a job at the time, and still don’t unfortunately, but that didn’t stop me from going to the Omega boutique on Michigan Avenue, taking on some debt, and finally symbolically getting my Speedmaster. I’ll keep it for the rest of my life, and it will always have special meaning and symbolism for me.
I bought my Speedmaster Professional in 1992 and pay for it U$S 1500 (another world). I used it as a daily watch until 2004 when I bought an Omega Planet Ocean (the one hoy use Bond in Skyfall). Having my second Omega and taking advantage of a friend's favor, I had it fully serviced in Switzerland to give it a second life in 2008. It is now as good as new (or better yet, more accurate), I still use it despite the Hesalite crystal that scratches so easily and I can't help but say that I understand why it was chosen for the trip to the moon. It is extraordinary, of timeless beauty and despite not being the most accurate, an extraordinary travel and adventure companion. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Just got a Speed Professional for myself just before Christmas. Great deal I couldn’t pass up. 5yr warranty, i pulled the stickers off. I understand everyone says buy second hand cheaper, i wanted to be the first one top put it on my wrist. The dealer wanted to give me the one in display case, I asked do you have one untouched, he had 2 left, got to keep all boxes. This is on my have to have list. I have only one left to go.
So glad you got one finally! Congratulations! It takes a true enthusiast to ignore the meta hate/hype nonsense and make your own mind up. And it is a great, no question. Casual, smart, tool, timeless, legibility personified... Re your discussion about yours vs the 3861, I can add a couple of things (I have both). You watch is more legible (blacker, whiter, flatter) and while the new one has a more beautiful dial, it looses some 'truth' and feels slightly like a resto-mod. Also, the lugs on your watch are longer and they look far more elegant and sculptural. The 3861 winds better and keeps better time. Into the future I can see a few points of interest 1) Speedy Pros are slowly disappearing from boutiques (artificial scarcity) 2) the white dial shows the direction of the sapphire sandwich - it will move more premium and gain applied markers and a lacquered dial 3) the price will rise 4) the hesalite will disappear from standard production. I recommend that anyone with a current Speedy keeps hold of it - the days of affordable Speedies are ending!
I paid $7000 for my 3861 sapphire sandwich last year from Omega Boutique, now its $8000 and way more in Europe, there its over $9000. I never regretted my purchase, i like it even more now than last year. Great classic timepiece👌
Speedy was my grail. When I retired several years ago my wife helped me get one. I don't wear it that often (I have a lot of watches) but it absolutely could be a GADA for me. It just wears so well! Over a Thanksgiving multi-day road trip it was my only watch and it was perfect.
I appreciate your willingness to be honest and lack of ass-kissing -- which are not present with many watch reviewers. Thanks for never acting as a shill.
Congrats Andrei! I bought mine some 3 years ago. Like yours, mine was second hand but in amazing condition for a 20 year old Speedy Professional. It is my absolute favourite in my extensive collection. It’s an occasional wear but every single time I wear it, I fall in love with it all over again!🥰🤩🤣😎
Yes! But that you can tell the time in any light condition can't be the objective reason you like it. I mean, there are many many watches that fit that bill very well.
Would have thought that would be a fantastic reason to like it. And objective too because it’s a fact. Doesn’t have to be subjective to like or dislike something.
Still my favorite in my collection. 3861 Hesalite. It’s easy to pick up, wind, just set the time and go. I do agree they don’t support the current asking price. Bought mine grey market and saved a ton.
I bought mine in 1996 and paid 2750 DM (which is now about 1400€😱); and it was my first mechanical watch… I still own it and had it serviced twice since then. And of course I still wear it…😎 I never felt being part of a hype… Let the others think whatever they want and enjoy a beautiful timepiece!!!
A must purchase is the classic Flat Link bracelet from Forstner!!! Trust me its very much like original vintage speedy and with it’s female end links makes the watch much more wearable 😊😊😊😊
My favorite 2024 is the Prospex Limited Edition 1965 Recreation European Exclusive in Gradation Island Blue. The dial is stunning and the contrast when on a white strap is to die for. I will get my hands on one from MAMACOO
The Professional model has always been my pick especially on the bracelet but those leather straps really enhance the watch. They look amazing! The price you paid is reasonable. The full retail price is outrageous. The Fortis in the video looks interesting as well.
I bought my 1967 321 in 2019. Long wait for about 10 years too ... but this old 321 is my grail because I was born in the 1960s and because the Apollo moon landings - which I witnessed on TV as a kid - were the most awesome events in my childhood and will probably be the most important ones in my life. In my case, having the piece from then, a very 1960s 321, is feeling that era on my wrist, and all the memories. Would not work with a 2024 Speedy. No other watch has this meaning to me. It is sacred. It will one day go to my nephew who loves space and astronomy.
I purchased this watch in 1997 for $1,000 USD. The starting salary for a college graduate in NYC was about $35K. So you could buy a speedmaster for about 1.5 weeks pay. a Rolex Submariner was about $4,500 or 6 weeks pay (or $3k used). The Daytona was a $10k watch new and that price stuck for years. today the average starting salary in NYC is $52k. So that Omega Speedmaster will cost you 7 weeks pay. so 4.5x more expensive for essentially the same watch. The new Rolex 41 Submariner is allegedly $10k retail but grey market $13k.
I’m a fan of Omega but can’t pull the trigger on the Speedmaster and I think it’s due to my preferences for dive watches. It doesn’t help that there are MULTIPLE variations on a theme either; I get lost in the mix. I hope that yours brings you continued enjoyment.
This and the sub are the most iconic watches ever. I love the moonwatch but I do hate the way it's been disrespected so much by Omega/Swatch. The new prices are ridiculous and yes it has many faults but it's a true icon and a must for every collection
Great photography 👍. I've never been a fan of chronographs, lots of complication/thickness/expense to add a complication I very rarely need, plus most don't even read to 1/10th second and most Casios read 1/100th. However, you are right the Speedmaster is an iconic design and so much better than the Daytona which let's face it was a very unpopular watch at the time Speedmasters were being used on the moon 🤔
For 5 years, I've been collecting lots of brand and what I want now is just watches with Original Design, Timeless and most important thing is No homage to other brand (I personally hate the feeling of wearing the watch that remind me to want another watch 😮💨). Surprising the Speedy ticks all of boxes. In the end, I been owning and wearing Speedmaster 1863 with box and paper (3600 Euro) almost half year now and I would never sell this watch out of my collection! 😄
Awesome video, I just have one question what camera and lens and lights you use for shooting, your video quality is so crispy and clean...good work bro...
I have a Speedy Pro and a Panda. I like them both, but the Speedy gets more wrist time. Probably because it is easy to swap out the Nato strap to give it a new look each time. It's an absolute classic.
@@אלכסס-ח5ג Thank you for this great answer. I can buy a Tissot, Citizen or Seiko automatic for the price I will buy but I really like the rose gold tone. Since I don't know much about Bulova, I wanted to ask. But your answer is very impressive. I'm buying the Bulova without thinking. Thank you.
@@RasaRasa-wm8em I didn't say you shouldn't think 😄 I like vintage bulovas, the one you are talking about is not my taste I would buy a seiko instead but that exactly my point, you are the one who should know what you like.
Great video as always. Coincidentally I tried on the Speedmaster Professional Saphire Sandwich yesterday *6.5" wrist" and I have to say....I was extremely underwhelmed. It fit me better than I was expexting and definitely wearable however.. As per your comment, Its Definitely not an €8.5k watch...more like €6k...and I love Omega. I own the PO Summer Blue and that feels like an €8.4k watch..
@BraveBeaters wow....that makes it even worse LOL. REALLY Nice watch but definitely not worth nearly 10k. You could almost have 2 x Tag Heuer Glass Box Carreras (a new Skipper and Panda) for that price
Good for you, it is still on my list. Very important and iconic watch. But I think that the Swatch made more of a damage, not the hype around Speedy, having made a kind of oversaturation...
Congrats brother 👏 I just picked up the Speedy as well. The ref# 310.30.42.50.01.002 To me the Speedmaster is one of the best looking watches in the world ❤ and it looks amazing on any strap/bracelet/outfit.
@ I owned the one you have and this one is definitely a lot of better. I’m sure you will end up upgrading at some point and will not regret that decision. Take care my friend 👍🏼
The video is super nice as usual!! Such a beautiful watch! Still, I would never buy it due to its connection to space. At the end of the day, it is a racing chrono (it was born for that) and not a pilot/aviation watch. That's why I've bought a stanning Speedmaster Racing 40mm reverse panda. No hype around it, a fair price with no speculation, a tru racing tool, an incredible movement, and 100mt water resistance. The moonwatch remains a beautiful piece, though. Enjoy it 😉
Although well appreciated the Speedy was an easy pick up with discount and full warranty until fairly recently. I bought the big box hesalite on bracelet, and the original reissue of the FOIS both under £3000.In retrospect two good buys, but hindsight is easy. It's foresight that makes the best watch deals.
As an owner and a fan of both Rolex and Omega, while I agree it may not be "worth" the current retail cost, however., in terms of quality, if A Daytona is worth its retail price so is the speedy. Both great and beautiful. Forgetting about resale.
I love my Pagani Design Speedy, I prefer quartz, and if mechanical I’d rather have an Automatic than a a Manual. I wish, I love the Speedmaster design but I can’t get over a manually wound watch. Maybe a Bulova Lunar Pilot 43mm. And congratulations, maybe we can get a Pagani Design comparison review?
Always loved The Speedmaster. I owned one, but sold it to help pay for a Triumph Bonneville. But I said to myself, don’t worry, one day you will replace it with an even better Speedy. Which I did this year- I got the white, it’s not the classic, but for this girl it’s sublime….
Hello mate! I have Speedy 1861 now, but in last time I'm thinking about that I'm tired of hype watches and especially omega brand, because of endless limited editions etc. What do you think about switching Speedy on Hanhart? On paper 417es gives much more: flyback, anti-magnetic, shock resistant, lume, best size, column wheel chronograph, on the other hand it is Speedy with space marketing. So, is it a good idea or this watches are different level? I never tried Hanhart and don't know how does it wears, how solid is it. Thanks!
The Speedmaster case is one of the best designs in the watch industry ever. I think the current "sapphire sandwich" is the best variant as it elevates the watch and makes it feel modern. The new FOIS is an alternative version for folks who want more of a vintage feel, similar to Seamaster 300 v. 300 Professional. Price wise it's fair compared to competition. So overall, it's a strong watch regardless of the hype.
8k is a lot for a watch. I feel the same about Rolex as well. Beautiful watches, but 10k for a watch. At this point, you’re paying for brand recognition, and that’s fine, but reviewers should just come out and say it. If you want real value, you have to look at smaller brands.
The only value watch in the true sense is a Casio, and only if you don't habitually check the time on your phone. Expensive watches are heart purchases, which are beyond the value equation.
I know, I get caught up in the brands myself but 10k is a lot for a watch. I pd 4k for a new Tudor Panda full set. I like the Speedy & would love to have a Daytona but what really separates the three is splitting hairs for the money.
Congrats to the .005. Exactly the model I own as well and would go for any time. The 1861 movement is tough as nails and proven by the test of time. My Speedy runs with +1.5s/d and has more than enough magnetic resistance due to the soft iron cage. So for me it's hard to see the benevits of the new one with its delicate co-ax escapement. For sure better and more beautiful is the new bracelet. It costs around 600€ and fits to the old case. So why not buy one later and have the best of both worlds for under 4k€? Is the new Moonwatch worth 9000€? Is a Submariner with its standard three-hand-movement worth 9k? I think both are not.
i really enjoy your videos. but i personally would prefer, that you don't use that terrible autotranslate by youtube. It does translate your titles to crap and i don't even want to start talking about the audio itself. Of course i can switch back to the original audio track but it ruins the experience, at least for me. Just my personal view on this "feauture" :D
In another video he explained that TH-cam does that. He doesn’t upload his videos with auto translation. Perhaps it’s a regional problem, as I don’t have this issue. 🤷♀️
@@BraveBeaters okay, thanks for the answer. This is really very interesting as your channel ss the only one i experience this. I mean of course i will keep watching yout videos, i just hope youtube will change it again. :) Thanks for your amazin videos and all the effort you put into them!

everyone should have a Speedy in their collection.
Speedmaster is a Legend...but the Omega i would buy is the Aqua Terra ..... beautiful watch ⌚ ❤😊
Really like the brown leather band in the review. Where can I purchase one?
7friends&watches, the link is in the description
Awesome video, I just have one question what camera and lens and lights you use for shooting, your video quality is so crispy and clean...good work bro...
I have a Speedy Pro and a Panda. I like them both, but the Speedy gets more wrist time. Probably because it is easy to swap out the Nato strap to give it a new look each time. It's an absolute classic.
Your Omega is very nice. What do you think about Bulova watches? I am thinking of buying a Series X. Do you recommend it?
Why do you care what he or any one else thinks? Is he going to wear it? The only question is do you like it or not?!
precissionist are ok!

Thank you for this great answer.
Bulova had some nice pieces, but not all of them :)
Retail for sapphire is 9 K according to their website.
The ref# 310.30.42.50.01.002
To me the Speedmaster is one of the best looking watches in the world ❤ and it looks amazing on any strap/bracelet/outfit.
You have the better version, I hate you! :D
Congrats M, I really love that model with the tapered bracelet, enjoy it! :)
@ I owned the one you have and this one is definitely a lot of better. I’m sure you will end up upgrading at some point and will not regret that decision. Take care my friend 👍🏼
Yeah!
I feel happy for you.
Thank you :)
It's foresight that makes the best watch deals.
uu, That's a good price!
Is there something you can do in TH-cam settings so we see the title in the same language that you write it ? I see it in French now.
Omg! It's youtube's new feature to translate or auto dub the content.
I will look into into it, but settings wise they are the same as usual...
As an owner and a fan of both Rolex and Omega, while I agree it may not be "worth" the current retail cost, however., in terms of quality, if A Daytona is worth its retail price so is the speedy. Both great and beautiful. Forgetting about resale.
Nothing is worth what they're made of actually... otherwise no business would make a profit much less survive.
🎉
Congrats !
Thank you! :)
You said it : proportions.
What is the blue dial at 4:21? Fortis?
Thanks!
Where did you get the strap
I added in the description the straps :)
“I used to own the same watch in 2019, but I sold it after two years and bought the first edition of the Speedy Tuesday.”
Where did you get that leather strap?
Orologio fantastico ❤
True :)
Not sure where the pricing info is from. You can get a brand new Hesalite for ~ $5900 - $6000

Nice vid :)
❤️
Back in 2008 I got a used one in nearly mint condition for £800. This was before the madness started 🙃
For a Pro? You must joking now.
Moon watch or the first watch in space? That’s the question
It's interesting, I waited 25 years for mine and I despise it and regret buying it at all
Can we have a video reviewing this blue dial Fortis? looks amazing! thanks
It's a beauty, It's hard to find, having 20+ years...
I paid £2600 new in 2016 I think they are far too overpriced now
microphone sounds really muffled today
God bless the resistance 🇲🇦
Dude - but it’s not Tuesday :)
i really enjoy your videos. but i personally would prefer, that you don't use that terrible autotranslate by youtube.
@@MrsVanB okay, strange. i only have it with this channel no other "english original"-channel. thanks
Hi Martin,
I have no control over it. :( the settings are exactly the same as before, I guess their auto dubbing feature does not work properly ...
Thanks .
@@BraveBeaters okay, thanks for the answer. This is really very interesting as your channel ss the only one i experience this. I mean of course i will keep watching yout videos, i just hope youtube will change it again. :) Thanks for your amazin videos and all the effort you put into them!
Become a buddist, you will never feel regret or short lived fantasy's via status or ego. It's just a watch. Tommorow you eat spinach and you like it too
Only the breath.
He's eating spinach for a year to pay it off

@Magnus611 ❤️
That's the beauty of this hobby. You can get the same enjoyment from a speedy as eating some amazing butter sautéed spinach.
Why wait 9 years?
Classic
This year, the FOIS just made my grail list.
You should see it in the metal it's a gorgeous watch
Why you did not buy a Chinese copy?
