    The last three songs, Let Me Lie To You, Tonight, and Miles Is Dead, are perfect. Incredible songs imo.

      Quite possibly. I had Gentleman back when it came out, and I loved it, but I didn't have any other albums until today. I bought this CD and Do To The Beast. I plan on absorbing them for a while. I'm also in the midst of a months-long The Who kick. Another great underrated 80's band, IMO, is The Call.

    Greg Dulli encompasses so many emotions, dare i say conjures them! Couldn't resist! At times he invokes such swag, then without warning defers to the one he wants to conquer. I can hear the Drugs, the Sex, but mostly Dulli's unfettered and unrelenting vulnerability in all of it's forms. So proud to be a Cincinnati boy when i hear this. They belong in the pantheon of all-time best bands of that era. Viva the great Afghan Whigs!!!

    I remember playing this tape when I would mow my Mom's yard way back in my early high school days .. it gave me a weird vibe because I was too young to really understand it fully.
    I was a weirdo emo punky kid and I thought this sound was different. Listening to it now is giving me chills. It's really good! It's bringing back memories of that time. I love the guitar work in particular.

    Creepy album cover. The guy on the cover of Nirvana’s Nevermind tried to sue them for child p***, but I think you’d make a better case with this album cover. The cover is a naked woman and female baby, and it’s such a sexual album; like, most of the songs on Congregation are about sex. It’s awful.

    • @silversnail1413
      @silversnail1413 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The cover isn't meant to be sexual at all. It's a visual metaphor for the band's sound. They're a white grunge band but their main influences came from black music genres like R&B, soul, funk and jazz, so the cover reflects that. White music born from black roots. If you see an image of a nude woman holding an infant and automatically think it's prurient or perverted then that's more a reflection of your mind than anything.
