Mora, you are settling into Central Mexico! I laughed when I saw you planting pots...literally 'putting down roots'....and why not? It is paradise! Your dogs look so relaxed and happy, as do you. You've replaced your worried, worn self with a relaxed, rested, happy and content self. Congratulations. You are an inspiration to so many of us. More videos, please!
Mora, I live on a lake in central Florida. Those are actually midges, which are an aquatic fly. They have the local nickname of ‘blind mosquito’ which of course they aren’t. Most types don’t bite. They know when it rains and quickly morph from the nymph stage to adulthood. They only live for a few days typically and blow in off the lake where they hatch. They feed a lot of fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects and birds. I just wear a mosquito head net if I’m working outside. No repellant works well that I know of. One of the challenges of living on a healthy lake.
Mora, I was so happy when I saw you created a new video. I love your narration and your soothing voice. Your videos have opened my mind to other areas of Mexico. I’m originally from Colorado, but in N Cali. currently. Thanks for posting!

Don't envy them. Just live your own life because you never know really how they feel. On videos it shows this and that but again, everybody is different. I have a very rich brother gosh, as they say he could use the money as his toilet paper but I would never trade my life with him and in no days I would never envy him. Looks good on the paper and ok you know what I mean but again life is different for everybody. So, even here with Mora ok who knows really how her life is. Just think of this...................gosh, here she is away from her kids and being alone with her dogs ok, what kind of life is that. Someday, when she is old and she needs and want to be close to her kids ok, they may not even know her anymore so again, don't envy her or anybody else.
@@tcb1017 Why does it have to be either or? We can both envy Mora *and* live our own lives. That's probably what most of us here are doing. GM Mora, I’ve been considering retiring early too as a nurse here in Northern California. I have been searching high and low for a new place to call home and to leave america permanently. Very unhappy with what’s happening right now with america so it sped up my search. To my surprise I found Boquete Panama! Ahhhh … a lovely video, Mora. When Jorge and I first started looking around for a town to live in in Mexico, we spent several days in Pátzcuaro and Morelia. We ended up choosing Querétaro, as you know, and have now been here a little over three years (and have rented six different homes!) We are very happy in our new rental home in the community of Zibatá. One of these days we’d like to come back to Pátzcuaro for a couple of weeks … we’d look for a pet-friendly home to rent. Good video Mora. You show a lot of what makes this area such a special place to live. For what it is worth we live not too far from you, right in the middle of forest and farmland. We have had no issues with mosquitoes, but we are also not quite as close to the lake.
I'm half Mexican, and I'm proud of my roots yet in about a week I'm going to Italy and northern Spain. The food, art, culture...and gelato, just makes me say yes, yes, yes!
Good for you. Enjoy Spain and also enjoy Italy. Hi Mora. Congratulations on 10,000 subs. Well I am living in Morelia now so than,s for the encouragement. Am exploring the area now and plan to visit Patzculo soon .
I don't know what's worse about mosquitos...their bite (and subsequent itching 😫) or that awful *zzzzz* sound when they fly around your ears 😡! Love your videos (and your beautiful dogs), BTW!
The weather looks lovely in Mexico , here in Texas panhandle we had some of the coldest , as low as -10 degrees F , so enjoy Mexico, have fun a meet new people , that’s what Mexico is all about , saludos
Your videos show Patzcuaro in such a wonderful light, it looks beautiful. Please be careful of the mosquitos, you said that you weren't bitten which is great, but Dengue is all over Mexico and Morelia has had many cases of it. I see that your one dog is not fond of the hose, lol. Are you planning to continue traveling through the country or have you decided to have a base somewhere that you can travel from?
My family and ancestors are from Zirahuen and Agua Verde. Unfortunately, the high demand of avocados has caused deforestation in the state of michoacán especially in Zirahuen. A friendly reminder to grow your own avocado tree or buy organic only from California preferably. Every year I see less trees and that makes me very sad.
I've been enjoying your videos for the past several months. I visited Guanajuato a few years back for a month and fell in love with that area. I love the lake and the vegetation where you are though. I considered moving down after I retire but when I read the requirements monetarily I was discouraged. Ideas? I really love Mexico. Headed to Mexico with my sister for Spring break. We go every spring.
Have you looked into the "regularization program"? No financials necessary. Especially if you have past Mexico stamps in your passport! Not sure it will last forever but look into it.
I had deleted Facebook but came back because your website said that's a good place to find rentals. I'm hoping to get somewhere in Patzcuaro, because I am a mountain girl and always have been. But all I can find is airbnbs. I was hoping to get your place, but I can understand your staying there. It really is absolutely perfect for a woman with a couple of dogs, like me. My passport should be here by the end of February and I will pack up my car and go. How long did it take you to get from the Pacific Northwest? I really have no idea how long it will take to drive there.
It took me three days to get to the border, with a stop in Cali to see my son. The poor dogs were in shock. Where are you coming from? I found this rental on FB group for expats in Morelia. Unfortunately I haven't seen many others, but I'd join all the local groups I could. Write me an email and I'll give you some other ideas: Mora@MoraMargaret.com
You sure those are mosquitos vs midges? They look like the latter, which don't bite.....Also appreciate nature, so this is refreshing as most people do videos about living in cement-laden cities. NO thanks. It would be nice to find a town big enough for convenience, but one that's surrounded by lovely nature and less stressful living.
Mora, as a traditional Catholic, I was wondering do the Mexican's maintain the old Latin Mass? If you ever do visit Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, I want to tell you about some of the miracles surrounding the image. First, the fabric called the "tilma," should have disintegrated by now. Second, in the pupils of the Virgin's eyes you can see images of people, such as Juan Diego (the man she appeared to) as well as, other people. There is a lot of information on the internet about this subject. Christina
The story of Juan Diego is fascinating, Mexico has many different Catholic traditions as when the Priests first came over here, they honored many of the traditional celebrations of the natives and incorporated them into the older Catholic rituals. I have attended mass many different times, for Funerals, weddings, and more local ones for blessing animals, flowers, the farmers and the list goes on... I am not sure I would recognize latin if I heard it, but I always hear Spanish! Dave, you should come to Mexico and see for yourself :) it's great here!
@ I have been very fortunate to hang out with several Priests in social situations here in Mexico. There are many very different orders as I learned and many focus on social issues as well as the local celebrations for encouragement. One of my relatives favorite Iglesia has regular "sermons" Bible stories followed by life applications... I enjoy that!
@@davejenson4924 Many old traditions are fading... I went to a little church for a Christmas mass, they sent us to a huge pavilion where they had a full band with drums, bass, guitar, and keyboard they rocked the place... when the Priest came out he told funny stories about Christmas, at the end of the service they did a few rituals like holding a baby Jesus doll for blessings but that was about it. Sounds like you are well rooted in the older traditions, and I think that is quickly becoming very rare! Btw, thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@@davejenson4924 I was very surprised! Especially for a smaller town in Mexico, but I have been to Super Churches in Texas, and they all have amazing Rock bands... Mostly Surprised!!
Yes, I have wondering about mosquitos - the LOVE me and I don't use chemicals, which leaves cilantro essential oil as my only defense. Expats on other channels have been complaining about the lack of heat within the homes, and are widely afraid of propane. I have used propane (in Nevada) for decades; if you get a "ventless" heater, you needn't worry about carbon monoxide - be sure to look your heater over to see if it IS ventless. I'll bring a carbon monoxide detector with me....
I am curious if it is possible that the bugs may just look like mosquitoes, like midges. I was only wondering that because mosquitoes usually bite (or maybe you are just lucky). The video was great and it's such a beautiful place.
Do you still have your Oregon license plate on a Lexus SUV? It just makes me feel worried about you. I think it makes you a target, I'm surprised nothing bad has happened to you or the car. Keep being safe
Elizabeth. I'm sure she will be ok and have been. She is a smart women and I'm sure she has her eyes open at all the time her being out there driving. But, you are making a good point. Not everybody but many so when they see a foreign plate ok, here we go.......................there is money to make since they all think that the foreigners are very rich.
I don't think those are mosquitoes. I've heard about these "bobo" bugs in Lake Chapala area. Could they be those? Michoacan is a beautiful place, I just can't find a niche there for a social community. I'm glad you are loving it there. I also seek out natural beauty in where I live.
this is my third January in Patzcuaro, never seen any mosquitos this time of year. BTW; i really don't like those Christmas decorations, nor do my local amigos (who were born here). Glad they are gone now! Back to normal....

Yes many churches still use latin here, I´d say most of them
Mora have you visited the neighborhood named Altozano in Morelia? It’s full of private subdivisions with private community parks and pools.
No I haven't. sounds nice!
😀👍👍
The moscos don't bite.............................they suck blood. At least those in Scandinavia.
I think you're right!
Are you certain those are misquitos? Reminds me of a similar looking seasonal ‘swarm’ of insects experienced in Jalisco (can’t remember name of!)
May I ask why you left, Tequisquiapan ? Or are you just an explorer?
No even a mosquito here.
HI, glad to see you so happy. You´re missing Toluca, best kept secret in México.
May be blind mosquitoes. Nuisance but most likely born out of the lake and they’ll be gone in a few weeks.
We have them in Florida. They make a big mess, but they never bite.
I love your videos thank you. I don't think those are mosquitoes, they come with the rain and they like going in the light and they don't bite.
Thanks, I think you're right! I'm glad they don't bite.
Where exactly is she located?
I don't think those are mosquitoes. I've heard about these "bobo" bugs in Lake Chapala area. Could they be those? Michoacan is a beautiful place, I just can't find a niche there for a social community. I'm glad you are loving it there. I also seek out natural beauty in where I live.
Could be. I hope they don't stay too long :)
this is my third January in Patzcuaro, never seen any mosquitos this time of year. BTW; i really don't like those Christmas decorations, nor do my local amigos (who were born here). Glad they are gone now! Back to normal....
Why? I thought they were lovely.
Do you speak Spanish? It appears that you live outside of town are you isolated from neighbors medical center . grocery shopping etc??
Propane? Get a carbon monoxide alarm in case of malfunction.
Can you please inform us on how to look for affordable 1 and 2 bedroom in your area . Thank you for sharing. 🫶🏼😎🌎🇺🇸🇵🇦
Would burning a bond fire 🔥 in your yard help with the mosquitos 🦟?
Mora, I live on a lake in central Florida. Those are actually midges, which are an aquatic fly. They have the local nickname of ‘blind mosquito’ which of course they aren’t. Most types don’t bite. They know when it rains and quickly morph from the nymph stage to adulthood. They only live for a few days typically and blow in off the lake where they hatch. They feed a lot of fish, reptiles, amphibians, insects and birds. I just wear a mosquito head net if I’m working outside. No repellant works well that I know of. One of the challenges of living on a healthy lake.
Excellent! Thanks for the info. That explains why they are not biting me. They seem to be gradually receding and I'm glad they are food for the others :)
