- We’re back! In this video we talk about what we’ve been up to and what we are working on now. Our latest project involves using a permaculture technique to help our mesquite shrubs grow into mesquite trees 🌳 We want to utilize our mesquite trees as the basis for our desert food forest. Watch this video to find out why!

Yes, supposedly, you can grind those mesquite beans into flour. We tried it and it is such a pain that we decided to leave them for the bunnies, the squirrels, and the quail. Watching the wildlife is much more fun!
We’re lucky to have some local mills that handle that for us but we still leave some for the critters because we love seeing them too.
TH-cam algorithms have sent you to me, thankfully, and am enjoying your channel and when I learned you are Christians, I’m sold on your adventures! Thanks for sharing!🙏
Thanks and have a blessed day
I love what you’re doing. It’s gonna be interesting to see what a good rain does to what you’ve done already. Cheers!
We’re excited to check them out during the next rain
Worth watching just to follow Jag's beard evolution! Good luck on your journey.
I’ve grown it wild and long before but I keep it trimmed now for bow practice and hunting season so I don’t pull it to much when shooting my bow
So excited for the future projects!!
You all have given us some amazing things to improve our small farm. Ty so much.
Thanks so much for the support
Hi there great job nice nice nice.
Thamk you. That was lovely.
Brilliant discussion and tutorial on boomeranging the existing Mesquite on your homestead. Digging and pruning. Making a miracle. Thumbs up!
WOW Very well thought out !
Let the trees grow.
It is great to see your vlogs again!
More to come!
Velvet with spotted pods, Western honey, honey (from the east (someplace :) ), and screw bean. South of the border is Julian, a shrub with bitter pods.
Plant mesquite in the garden like the old-times (American Indian). It's great to prevent erosion, for shade, and nitrogen. We used to pick a lot of chiltepin from under mesquite.
Retainer dams, yo! We used to have to repair them in pastures on the range. The old woman said most were from the pre-columbian era. If you see a patch of agave along a dry creek bed and the remains of a wall, that's likely one.
We’re planning to plant some agave so thanks for the info
Those rocks you raked to make a gully are actually really good mulch!
The rocks will be our backup if there’s not enough wood mulch. Thanks
I did not know the pod shells were edible! Such great info.
They are a pretty sweet treat when hiking down by the river
Great ideas! Thanks for sharing. Onward!
Thanks for watching!
lone survivor movie star look alike , thxs hero and family there
Love and blessings ×++!!!
Thank you
yep...mesquites part of the "fathering trio".palo verde and desert ironwood are the other 2. paloverde is also edible like the mesquite.
We’re planning on planting some Palo Verde but I hadn’t heard about the ironwood’s. I’ll check them out. Thanks
I thought the Palo Verde (green bark and branches) were poisonous. Not supposed to use their wood to cook with. Just wanted to put that out for further research.
Electric coffee grinder works well
Welcome Home, glad you had a great time. We have desert Cottontail bunnies in our backyard, they LOVE eating mesquite leaves.
We haven’t seen many bunnies around us but plenty of quail
Enjoyed the video 😊
Thank you 😁
Hi. More more. 😂❤
Mix mesquite bean flour with cornmeal for cornbread. I mix blue corn meal with mesquite meal. Mmmm
Blue corn mixed with mesquite sounds delicious. We’ll try that
Just came across your video. Had to stop because it looks like las Cruces NM area and lived there for a long time.
We just moved from Las Cruces to AZ.
Boomerang berms are used in parts of Africa.
In Rainwater Harvesting by Brad Lancaster he shows examples of people using these techniques all over the world. It’s pretty amazing what can be accomplished with some good design and smart earthworks.
i thought mesquite was only good for it's smoke flavor when cooking on the grill on holidays .. thanks , nice to know . i'll be watching . good video
It’s our favorite for smoking meat too
@@copperdeserthomestead 😁
The mequite are shrubs due to the frost
