The only time Asuma landed a powerfull hit on Hidan was only because he was standing still.

Also jumping in was a good option since Hidan guard was down so he would be easy target to assassinate and would of made them fighting Kakuzu a lot more easier considering it would be 20 vs one Akatsuki so casualties would of been kept low compare to waiting and fighting 2 Akatsuki members. Plus they had a time limit because Hidan and Kakuzu could of left while they wait for back-up so it better to fight as soon as possible rather than wait for back-up. They just couldn't predict they would be fighting an immortal person, so their plan backfired otherwise it was a very good plan.
They do have ways of communicating. I suppose, they could/should have waited - not knowing what their capabilities were. Even if they temporarily slipped away, a positive sighting means that the other teams wouldn't have to stake out dead end locations. Oh well. Naruto does a good job of deepening and developing the backstories of the characters - to the point, where few characters seem minor. Many shows concentrate on a handful of characters - mainly the title character and that character's immediate circle. Naruto has four main teams from the Leaf, as well as the mentors. There's also the Hokage, and characters like Jiraiya. In addition, there are recurring characters from other villages, like Gaara. As the show goes on, more characters get added to that recurring list. There are so many good stories ahead. I also assure you that an even deeper Pain is coming, but it's not quite yet.
I think the part where Hidan said that they went to them in the wrong was because.. They need to eliminate one and capture the other one.. and they went to Hidan as the one they'll eliminate

What I don't get is that even if he couldn't die, you can still cut off body parts. He can't fight without arms & legs. Then, it would've been just them and Kakuzu. Kakuzu wouldn't have been able to sew his body parts back on if he was preoccupied with fighting.
