    Oh, man... CTRL+Shift and drag with the mouse. I've been inserting points for months... Thank you for all your knowledge, Kenny! Your work is very much appreciated!

    this video was so helpful. even if i think i already understand a feature in reaper, i always come away from your videos having learned a lot. i never even realized touch mode and latch mode existed! and the default trim/read mode is one of my all time favorite features of reaper. it makes mixing so much easier

    Just getting back to Reaper and music production after quite a pause. Alt + Shift + Drag was what I was looking for. Thank you for the excellent content.

    Literally helping me stave off life-long learning issues and, now, age-related cognitive decline, lol. I learn excellently with Kenny's pattern of speech and intuitive order of concepts, and Reaper is so great to work with already, and this will put me in the intermediate zone finally

    Just wanted to say 'Thanks!" for looking over my shoulder and seeing I was having a problem with the automation on this new mix I'm working on. I couldn't figure out how to move the automation points after sliding a media item by a few seconds. I went to lookup info on Reaper Automation - and there it was - a brand-new Kenny video waiting for me. Some may say it was a coincidence, but I know you're right here looking out for me. (yeah, a bit spooky, but worth it!) 🙂
    Another great video!

    Thanks, Kenny! This explains what I didn't know and needed to know about recording, trimming, and latching automation. Assuming that these same principles can be applied to MIDI, now I'm on the road to recording laser shows with Reaper. 😎

    I'll say it. Reaper is great for so many reasons, but it rules automation.

      bitwig rules automation actually :)

    Another cool way to automate volume in Reaper is to use the Volume Adjustment plugin, combined with an LFO.

    How can you pin all written points in the envelope to the grid so its ontiming to the bpm?

    • @Hamburgaga
      @Hamburgaga ปีที่แล้ว

      Like the points are always between the grids, same with Touch mode

    Is there any way to have envelopes automations items layers as take, like midi items would, while recording on looped section?
    Imagine i loop a section on repeat. Then i play around with automations. If i do something i like, i have to quickly stop the recording or it will erase it on next loop play!
    That's quite annoying, and also prevent me to freely play without overthinking then listen back to grab the best parts.
    Only way around i found is to not use looping but instead layer 3 min of the section at the end of the timeline as a "recording area".

    Would you make a video on how to automate eq. For example, I hate my rim shot sound. but love my open snare.

    How do you select multiple envelopes? For example if I want to delete a few envelopes at once holding down shift doesn't work like with selecting tracks. That's odd

    thanks Kenny! nice video! what about draw automation with figures? Line, square, saw, triangle or sine for example... is it possible in reaper?

      For anyone who is still wondering: You can create an Automation Item for you envelope(Alt + LMB drag on the envelope item), then right click the Automation Item, choose Properties, then you can adjust the LFO shape and its associated properties.

      I have no idea what I am talking about but my guess is to create a premaster track, send everything to that and use the volume envelope techniques from this video.

    Hi. How can I automate with my midi controller?

  • @jeanpaulrouve6101

    why is it that every time you speak you do pauses that makes it really hard to concentrate on the actual point

  • @brucefree8
    @brucefree8 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good tips, but why can't we quantize those automation points? Neither when we record. Sometimes it's necessary. Also the points are too small and unpractical. Reason has a horrible sequencer in many ways but it's envelope points are much easier to work with. They will also stick to the grid if you want them to. In Reason, envelope points don't seem to know about the existence of the grid.

    Kenny, I've been following you for a long time and your videos have really help tremendously in me improving my recording and reaper skills. I am struggling with one item though. How do I not only show for all tracks the automation envelopes I'm using and then arm all of them for read mode so the faders move on my control surface? I can arm one at a time for read mode but can't seem to figure out how to read arm all of the at the same time. Can you help?

    Learned more in the first 90 seconds of this video than I did in hours of my own messing around alone. Kenny is the man.

    Loving watching these again. Hate to critique anything, cause everything Kenny does is class (and free!) but the intro/outro music and the music playing during the videos is far louder that the voice, have to keep my hand on the volume knob!!! Maybe going forward have the voice/music levels more even? Cheers.
