It sounds crazy but now whenever I go past them in the woods my mouths starts salivating so thought i'd try to find a way to use them at this stage in Spring when they are not edible.

      Hi Miria,
      It’s probably best to wash the horsetails before chopping…especially if you have dogs in your yard, wink.
      Ideally you should shake your tincture daily. To be honest, I often miss that step, and my tinctures seem fine, but I also don’t drain them after a couple months either. I leave the leaves in until ready to use, then drain then. Habits of convenience really, but really make sure the alcohol level is above the herbs if you’re going to do it the lazy way, or the top will discolor.

    • @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590
      @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590  ปีที่แล้ว

      Moderate medication reactions have been reported to possibly occur with horsetail if taken with anti-diabetes drugs, lithium and diuretics (water pills). Lisinopril is an ACE inhibitor, it is not a diuretic, and does not have diuretic effects so that shouldn’t be a problem. I don’t see any reported adverse interactions with adderall. Do not take horsetail long term as it can cause problems with thiamine deficiency. Take it for a limited period and you’ll probably get benefits.

    • @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590
      @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess you’d need to decide how potentially contaminated it is from the manure. Animal feces can harbor some nasty bacteria and more. Since it’s organic, there shouldn’t be much chemical or heavy metal contamination at least. I’d say avoid the horsetails that actually touch the manure water, harvest up the bank at least.

      While horsetails have been traditionally used externally to stop bleeding, other scientific evidence suggests that it actually inhibits platelet aggregation. Plants are tricky like that.
      www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0378874104002661
      Horsetail promotes kidney health. The kidneys work hard to eliminate toxins and regulate urine; horsetail can help by eliminating uric acid, which can cause kidney stones, especially in men who don’t drink enough water or have a diet high in animal protein. There is a high correlation between taking horsetail and lower levels of uric acid.
      So wether it would be good for you may depend upon your type of kidney stones.
      As for coagulation, many herbs can influence your coagulation. When you decide to use any herb regularly, you should consider getting your coagulation time tested beforehand, then again after using it for a while.
      You really shouldn’t take horsetails in large amounts long term, due to potential vitamin deficiency.
      To determine wether horsetails are right for you, go see a Naturopathic Doctor, or at least a trained herbalist!

To be safe, never take that form of horsetail. Be sure to buy products made by an established company with a good reputation. I got rid off my neck whiplash, that wasn't cureble several " specialist doctors ". You must get used to live with it, and even had to use a neck brace, to lower the horrible pain!!!
    Since I use Horsetail together with Sjamana (extracted from dead sea, and Himalaya salt) I got rid of the neck whiplash, but also osteoporosis and arthritis!!!

    Ive been told this plant can reduce heavy metals in the body. Can anyone comment to this claim??

    • @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590
      @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Horsetail has been studied for it’s effects as a heavy metal chelation herb. It is known to pull heavy metals (and other toxins) from contaminated earth and remineralize the soil, and it works much the same way in our bodies. It’s a great source of bioavailable silica and helps our body get rid of aluminum and other heavy metals. Make sure you are gathering your horsetails from a clean location, or you could actually be getting the heavy metals this plant has just removed from the filthy dirt.

    I thought horsetail was beneficial for the kidneys 🤔 how can it be irritable or problematic for the kidneys?

    • @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590
      @dr.mindya.curryndpassionfo7590  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can be both depending on what is wrong with your kidneys. It’s helpful for kidney stones and for soothing inflammation and healing from infection, but for frank kidney failure it may increase problems, Due to it’s diuretic effects, it’s not good for renal diseases requiring fluid restriction. The way it was explained to me by an herbalist was that the tiny silica crystal “gravel” can give a nice scrubbing cleansing action to a relatively healthy kidney, but that silica crystal “gravel” can be too sharp and overwhelming to a frankly broken kidney. There don’t appear to be many reports of frank harm, and has pretty great safety in short term use, but this contraindication is present throughout the literature.

      “Horsetail has a long and documented history of use as a diuretic (a substance that increases the amount of urine produced by the body). In a recent study comparing Horsetail to its pharmaceutical counterpart, it was found that the herb was as effective as the drug, but without causing excessive electrolyte loss - a common problem with pharmaceutical diuretics. The natural diuretic action of Horsetail helps the kidneys to cleanse the blood by triggering the need for water in the body and regulating urinary output. Additionally, the German Commission E has approved Horsetail as a diuretic for the treatment of swelling and fluid retention.
      A study by the University of Maryland Medical Centre showed that the diuretic activity of Horsetail may also be beneficial to patients with kidney stones, particularly the uric acid stones that are usually associated with gout.
      The cleansing, diuretic action of Horsetail tea can be useful in combating bladder and urinary problems. By boosting the flow of urine, it helps to flush out harmful bacteria and toxins whilst soothing the constant urge to urinate by toning the urinary system. The high silica content of Horsetail is also thought to be responsible for its astringent, healing action upon the urinary tract.”

      Seriously? Fairly certain the point of this video was to help people heal their bodies. Not intended to be a lesson in grammar and syntax. Our Irish British Scottish German ancestors who immigrated to the Midwest, East Coast and Southern states all have their colloquialisms and dialects. Would you avoid a Scotch Irish medicine woman in the Great Plains or Smoky Mtns. if she could help heal your medical maladies (after years of suffering when Western medicine cannot diagnose or treat) due to her native tongue? Chinese speaking herbalists? South American Amazonian medicine? If so..I highly suggest you also avoid vacationing in Hawaii where the natives are known to speak Pidgin. I cannot believe you took the time to comment about such nonsense in this day and age. The need to insult a kind woman with a snarky comment who is just offering her FREE advice on medicinal plants, in some attempt to let us all know how brilliantly you have mastered the English language behind a screen name like JuceeLucee is hilarious. When you seek to "out" and undermine one woman's attempt to help benefit the greater good, with put-downs, you undermine everyone's willingness to publicaly promote health and wellness.
